Gene Simmons Clarifies "Rock Is Dead" Comments Before Heading To Europe With Bandmate Paul Stanley

Ойын-сауық

KISS frontman Gene Simmons and bandmate Paul Stanley are spotted checking in for their flight before heading to Europe for their upcoming tour. Simmons is asked his thoughts on the passing of actor Ray Liotta, and states, "I knew Ray, he was a very nice man. Life is what happens to you while you're busy making plans. What a great, great actor." Simmons goes on to clarify his previous "rock is dead" comments, stating, "As soon as fans were able to download and file share for free, new bands didn't have a chance to make a living and that breaks my heart."

Nice to see these two just being normal guys in an airport. I think I would faint if I saw them in person. Been listening to them since I was seven years old, which was when Love gun came out in 77'.

Here’s my opinion on this I think the main thing keeping rock and metal alive is the fans and now that pop and rap is now king so to speak people are more drawn to auto tuned lyrics and drum machines and not so much shredding guitar solos killer drum solos and insane vocals anymore so what I think is that as long as more people get introduced to the genre and more new metal heads enter the scene rock and metal will live on although I do agree with gene on bands not getting a chance to make it due to the level of streaming and buying music for free

I enjoyed Simmons’ comments with respect to how after around ‘88 music lost something special. There’s still a lot of great music done, but it isn’t like it what it was, as he mentioned, during that golden 30 year period starting in the 50s. But there’s still a lot of great talent out there-we just need to find them.

@dirtbag daryal I guess you do not listen to music when you play it. KISS had a load of great music but then again you have to know music when you hear it. Are they in the same level as Judas Priest or Iron Maiden, hell no. But what they do is great. Saint and Sinner, Thrill In The Night, and the list goes on and on.

I thought they had a private jet to travel around the globe. They have everything, from kiss condoms to Kiss caskets... I really thought they traveled by Kiss Jets. Well, it's very cool to see them at the airport like any one else though. And I agree with what Gene said. It's very hard to make a living if you cannot charge properly your art.

I've been a KISS fan for 40+ years, and this is the one sentiment I disagree with. Music piracy has nothing to do with lack of big bands. Major labels have everything to do with big bands. Apple (which I am another fan) kind of killed it with the iTunes Store and buying single tracks only. Applications like GarageBand paved the way for many to do their own thing. Bandcamp contributes to that. Radio still plays garbage today. From 2000 on, any new band that emerged are just crap. Too much corporate crap, like these television shows like America's Got Talent and American Idol. Like who the F is anyone kidding? Music has been shoved into the background, because the corporates do it. No one else. Piracy actually introduced me to tons of artists I'd never know of otherwise, and in turn, I purchase those CDs and LPs. It's never the other way around. If you aren't in it, you most certainly don't know a single thing about it.

That's not true at all lol NOBODY buys records anymore, Major labels want to make money out of sales and not even big bands like Kiss or Elton John will ever make a new album go gold or platinum. New bands are fucked and will never make big bugs by producing albums. Maybe they can make a decent living when touring most of the year but new rock bands will never become millionaires and iconic like The Beatles, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Elvis or BB King.

It's just the instruments that are out of style. It's more about the producers creativity than specific instruments now. It's much less limited now. The spirit of rock and roll is still alive in other genres.

Last night's performance by KISS at the Barcelona Rockfest was embarrassing. It looked like it was on playback. Eric Singer's attempt at a drum solo was not good. When compared to the bands that played before KISS. KISS is just a caricature of itself. No energy, on playback (or semi-playback) Boring and even the effects and masks won't save it. A lot of people were leaving for the subway during the KISS concert, me too. And I'm a KISS fan. Well, actually I was :-). Good bye KISS.

Who are the new Beatles? Pains me to say it but Taylor Swift is bigger than The Beatles ever were. Where i live i. Melbourne she is playing a stadium that holds 100,000 people and she has sold out 3 nights and could have done 5. No other artist in the world can do that. Gene is a little out of touch with his comments.
