Gender-Equal Nationality Laws: Essential to Sustainable Development in MENA

Ойын-сауық

Global Campaign for Equal Nationality Rights, in partnership with Al-Rawnaq Organization for Women and Children, “My Nationality Is a Right for Me and My Family” Campaign (Lebanon), UNICEF, the UN Refugee Agency, and UN Women, cosponsored this webinar to enhance policymakers and other stakeholders’ understanding of the links between gender-equal nationality rights and sustainable development in the MENA region.
Over half of the twenty-four countries with nationality laws that deny women the equal right to confer nationality on their child are in the Middle East-North Africa (MENA) region. Strengthening women’s nationality rights and gender equality in nationality laws will have profound benefits for women, children, and families in the Arab region. Advancing gender-equal nationality rights is critical to promoting gender equality, children’s rights and wellbeing, legal identity, and sustainable development.
