I teach my kids that skin color is the same as eye color or hair color, it makes no difference at all. It's the same.

One of my favorite classes in high school was law and justice. We had to memorize the bill of rights and like 10 major Supreme Court cases. The teacher also wanted to teach a class he called “stuff” like how to mow a lawn or change your oil lol (especially for us girls). Practical stuff! Loved that guy.

The way you son handles himself, his demeanor, his willingness to listen and learn... is a refreshing sight. My grandma used to tell us grand kids, god gave you 2 ears and 1 mouth for a reason. To listen twice as much as you speak. And it looks like hes on the right path. Good work and well done parents.

I am a widower mum of three. My youngest is 14 and a half. Your son reminds me of my son. He looks as gentle, intelligent and polite as mine. I do the same than you do. I seat with them, look at a documentary or youtube videos about what is happening in the world, we discuss and I teach them about what is good or bad, about God and sin, about truth. We, parents, need to go one step ahead of this damaging society. Congratulations for being such a wonderful parents.

I grew up on long Island in new york. Its a 45 min train ride to Manhattan. Everyone's parents worked in the city. I was in 9th grade history class on 911. After the first tower fell they put on the news. They thought it was over. It wasn't. We watched as the second tower was hit and fell on live tv. It didn't matter who was popular or who wasn't. I didn't matter what color our skin was or what religion we were. We cried together. We held eachother. We prayed together. We feared for our families together. The message then is what it should be now, we are stronger together.

Fellow gen X here coming in with love. (Born 1968) I'm Native American, Polish, French, and Cameroonian decent but 100% American and human. Love your thoughts on skin as an just an organ, it says nothing about the person within. I might just steal that analogy, it's perfect. haha I TOTALLY agree we have to teach our kids about politics, policies and get involved especially in our local elections. I've made sure to teach my kids and now grandkids how important it is. I won't force their views, I only make sure they know to research all the options available and make the choice they feel is best for the country as a whole... NOT for themselves. I'm glad you're teaching your son this too. I believe we're ONE election away from losing the nation we grew up with. If Trump doesn't win, I don't want to think of the outcome.
