@George He being a prick saying it is not special. That everyone will learn a language at a much more expedited rate when you immerse yourself in the culture (i.e. live in the native speaking countries/regions). It's true as you need it to function and you/your mind prioritizes learning due to necessity (maybe not the real reason but does happen). However, Dan X is taking away the ability to learn in a few months. It's extremely hard to both learn and attempt a certain accent. She is clearly not native, but probably way more advanced than many would be at her stage (forgive me Gemma but age as its easier to learn another language at a younger age). It may be innate (as some people are better with language) but could be from years of studious nature.

I'm a native portuguese speaker, I teach english and I'm learning french myself. What I love the most about some people trying to master another language, myself included, is when they aren't afraid of it. The process of making mistakes, getting new vocabulary and softening your own accent is, all of it, delicious. We mustn't be scared. Her french is beautiful in its imperfection - made me smile. :)

She radiates such cultured beauty and intelligence! How lovely it would be if more Anglophone actors could take on the challenge of acting in films spoken in the romance languages. It's not unusual for French, Spanish, Italian, and other EU based actors to challenge themselves and star in cross-cultural collaboration projects. It's endearing how Gemma continues to immerse herself in this gorgeous language by living partly in Paris.

Don't be too hard on yourself. How quickly you learn language may be partly dependent on the resources you have to learn it. If you're using Duolingo and she has a personal teacher traveling with her from place to place it can have very different results. Either way I hope it works out well for you. I need to work on my Spanish. 💯

The difference is with no doubt the fact that she lived in France. The best way to learn a language is to go to live in a country where it's the mother tongue. I can tell you from my experience. I lived one year in Italy and I learnt it faster than english, even if I had been studying english for years, and I arrived to Italy without knowing any italian word. It's true that my mother tongue is spanish and italian is quite similar, but for sure, if you live surrounded by a language, you will learn it quicker.

So I'm not the only one who finds her absolutely stunning. Moreover she's not even wearing much in the way of makeup here. The fact that she's smart enough to become fluent in a foreign language in short order only adds to her appeal. Before you imagine her as your "dream girl" though, the reality unfortunately is that there is a lot of pressure on relationships for celebrities. Sadly she's suffered through one divorce already.
