Flight Testing the Gemini Version 2 High Altitude Long Duration FPV/UAV:
Climbed very slowly to altitude, keeping a reserve in the battery. Then Descended in a shallow dive, bleeding off altitude.
The total time for the flight was 2 hrs, and 2 minutes. Maximum altitude reached was 4008 meters or 13,159.6 ft. That's very nearly 2 1/2 miles high! Part of the flight was in instrument conditions, and the plane was flown manually without an autopilot. 6 cameras were on board for the flight.
1-Pilot's FPV camera with pan tilt servos
2-Observer camera (Dad cam)with pan tilt servos
3-GoPro hero 3+ mounted externally under the nose
4-GoPro hero 2 set to take video in mapping tray compartment.
5-GoPro hero 2 set to take stills(over 700) also in mapping tray
6-Mobius mounted externally to top of horizontal tail (used external power supply)
The GoPro 2 set to take video in the mapping tray shut off due to low battery most of the way throughout the flight. The flight was made below gross weight, and the altitude was achieved at a very low rate of climb, while simultaneously achieving a fairly long duration flight, so it's clear that much more altitude is possible. This entire flight was made with the Immersionrc control system Tx on low power.
Thanks for watching this video, and be sure to check out our "secret" channel: bearospaceinsider for extra content!
You can contact Wayne flyingsquirrelmodels@gmail.com for more info about the High Quality Laser cut kit that he produces.
We took lots of precautions for this flight, and we have a safe place to do it. Always be careful to minimize risk to others and be responsible!

I really like watching these kind of videos. I use fly weight shift ultralight trikes, but I can't afford it anymore. So this is the next best thing. I disabled & was wonder how much a basic setup like yours would cost. I would really like to purchase to purchase a glider, & perhaps make it solar powered to help make the battery life longer.

cameras can be added to the wingtips as well. making eh gemini a pusher would put the props in turbulent air, and cause vibrations, but would work. similar to the piaggio avanti aircraft, they have unique noise profile, if you have ever heard one. that noise is the pressure differential from the wing hitting the props. i don't consider it a good thing, but it could be done.

i know that sound!! i fell in love with it's design, a few occasionally fly out of my airport where i work. i thought the noise was caused by the exhaust hitting the props.

If you took this UAV up to its maximum altitude, then let it glide then take it back up to the max how far could you potentially travel, could it fly hundreds of miles

  • @FPVREVIEWS

it would fly the furthest at a relatively high altitude, without descending, because the air is thinner, and travel through it is more efficient. This is the strategy behind commercial air flights, and the reason they expend extra fuel to get to their cruising altitude. at sea level, the theoretical max distance is 120 km, with the 3kg battery pack, in stock configuration.

+Salih Mehdi temperatures get less at higher altitudes, not more. so, no problem, just need insulation for extreme altitudes, and extreme low temperatures. At these altitudes, it is not a problem. it would be interesting to add an outside air temperature sensor to the plane, however. also a barometric sensor, so sense density altitude. alternately, airspeed could be compared with average groundspeed.

  • @FPVREVIEWS

    @FPVREVIEWS

    2 жыл бұрын

yes, that would absolutely be a possibility. if you need the range for RF. lately, we're focusing mostly on full autonomy, which is even better for most applications, because the aircraft no longer needs to be in range to perform it's mission. There are circumstances which would require operator input, such as for certain types of decision making, but mostly, it can be eliminated, or compensated for my flying more auto missions, which costs almost nothing, and requires no operator for the majority of the flight.

@@FPVREVIEWS basically autopilot very interesting but what application would you use that for I can see for like deliveries/geography or whatever, but just for hobbyist based applications as in having fun lol it would be exciting to know your RC can fly itself back and forth but that would take the fun out of it after a while. I would like to see how high I could get without the use of drugs lol But seriously I would just like to see how I could get and take photos Or just say I did it You know what would be cool to build your own V2 but instead of going fast go real slow so slow that they won't be able to shoot you down because their rockets are too fast hahaha

@@earlyculyer4103 Even with the autonomous systems, you can take various degrees of control, including full manual, and have that RX failsafe option. so it all depends at that point, what is the range of your control, and video systems. fun stuff.
