Geckota Ocean Scout Full Review. Geckota Go Vintage!

Geckota are a British watch microbrand and have been on the go in some form since 2010. Under the umbrella of WatchGecko they have produced some stunning original watches over the last few years including the Geckota Sea-Hunter Slimline which I reviewed a couple of months ago. Here they have gone retro with a mid-size diver (diameter only 38.5mm).
Given the surge in interest n small retro dive watches this should fare well.
In my Geckota Ocean Scout Full Review I go into the smaller details and specs in order to find out if this dive watch for smaller wrists has got it.
This piece was provided on long-term loan for review and WatchGecko /Geckota have no input on the content or conclusions I make.
You can check the watches out on their website including the Geckota Ocean Scout via the links below (Non Affiliate).

As usual, I'm with you on both the positives and negatives. Great design, love the bracelet, size, fit and finish. And yeah, they definitely need a clasp with more than two adjustment holes...and last but not least, the price; almost $800 usd, I think I'll pass. Thanks for the holiday shots, John, Scotland is beautiful.

Nice John. I like where you’re going with your photography and love seeing the Scottish countryside. I’ve never heard anything about this brand before. Good looking watch. I like the fact they used the miyota 9000 movement inside. 👍

Hey Eric and thanks. Going to be taking time out shortly to study my filming course...so busy I just haven't had time. Also changing my editing software as it is very basic...Plus have just ordered my Editing pc parts for a build so everything is starting to come together.

Hi John. Lovely piece. Very reminiscent of the Orient Mako which is no bad thing. The bracelet would be better with fitted solid end links and more nicro adjustments but not a deal breaker. Great video as usual my friend 👍.

Great review John, very comprehensive, I bought a geckota airstream gen2 and it's a cracker lovely 36mm explorer type watch, I like this model too ticks all the boxes for me , I think they should offer it on a rubber strap though suede is hopeless and gets dirty in no time, cheers.

Nice watch and review. I share your concerns about the price on this one though. Don't know if I can reach THAT far down in my pocket when there are similar spec'd watches for a bit less. 😳 BUT OMG! THE SCENERY THERE IN SCOTLAND, I'M SOOO JELL-JELL 😢

Great review. The only thing I miss is some mention of which - if any - watches the design is inspired by/similar to. I know a bit about watches, but I'm far from an expert. I consider Geckota a respectable brand that has produced many great designs, as opposed to many AliExpress "homage" brands, but it would still be helpful to know where this particular design is positioned in the market place.

I like the numbers on the dial with a vintage style watch. The screw links are great for security. Price is fair, problem is us watch nerds have been spoilt by Ali Express brands. Nothing I dislike about it.

Great looking watch. I think if you like the looks, it’s worth the money but still a little pricey for me. And they can maybe get rid of a line or two of text. Thanks for showing us your beautiful countryside as well.

Great review, it's nice to see the watch worn on a trip and in wet weather although that was a shame for you trip. I like the watch but as you say £600 is rather high, as the only real flaw is the clasp, I think I would save £100 and buy it on a NATO.

  • @johnswatchjoint

Well...isn't it a little generic? I'm not a huge fan of the straight-end-link bracelet. And isn't it a little expensive? It's gets a 'meh' from me at best! 😏 But you made a beautiful video of it, mate!!

When I first saw it I wasn't sure but the benefit of a long term review is to learn its strengths and weaknesses. For me personally I couldn't fault it but the clasp will be an issue for most. Timekeeping was the best I have experienced and the comfort was superb. It is expensive and I am opposite in opinion to the end links as I prefer them....yeah we are in disagreement again ;)

@johnswatchjoint hopefully they do because it's a gorgeous piece, and they could sell double the units, taking it down in price. For me personally, $450-500 is my microbrand max. I feel like above that price, you run into the swatch group and higher end seikos. With those those groups offering heaps of history and brand recognition.
