Having the ability to revisit and archive old Xbox 360 games, I decided to take another look at the Gears of War series. I adore the first two entries and did not play many of its sequels afterwards since I moved to another country and did not bring my console. Therefore I never got to play Gears of War Judgment which is a prequel to the first game.
Since I wanted to experience the series in a chronological order when it comes to the story I decided to play and archive this one first. Judgment is basically a love letter to the fans who wanted more of the same action that Gears of War gave them.
But as a story and entry for newcomers its not that great. The story does not add any new lore to the overall story arc despite playing as fan favorites Baird and Cole. The game also has pretty much all the enemies from Gears of War 1-3 in them, meaning that you will spoil yourself a bit when you play this game first on all the types of enemies. And it also relies heavily on the horde defense mode where at the end of each chapter you will have to hold out against incoming waves of enemies for multiple rounds.
This is fine as is, but is used so frequently that it became a bit repetitive. The game itself is not bad by any means, but is way less impressive than both Gears of War 1 and 2. Its more of a light snack for fans who want more of the same.
