Because of you Shadowz, I finally made the switch to tournament settings after years of playing gears on default. I didn't think I could do it, but I have to say, it's so nice not having to play claw. I'm now able to aim easier without losing speed and bouncing.

Just changed my settings to the exact same as yours... and WOW! Thanks so much for this, my level of play has stepped up big time! Appreciate this!

I've been using default controller layout's since the beginning, with some sensitivity tweaks here and there throughout each title. Has always Worked like a charm for me. Never had or felt a disadvantage against any opponent online whether they were using Claw, Tournament or whatever controlling formula makes them perform well. Overall, it really is all about one's personal preference, always has been.

How do you line up your shots so perfectly after wall bouncing, evading and pop shotting? I'm having trouble hitting my targets consistently. I also seem to shoot people too early and get only about 70-80% damage and they one shot me.

Completely agree with you @SASxSH4DOWZ. I bought an elite controller and console in June and was determined to make the swap from standard controls to give myself the movement advantage. I have always used the default scheme so when I first mapped the A button onto the bottom right panel on my elite controller it felt awful and I just couldn't get the hang of it. I decided to see if I could complete the campaign for Gears ultimate edition with the new setup. By the time I got to the end I was fluent with the new control scheme and cant use the original one now. Underlying point is that I managed to get used to it when I thought I wouldn't! Great vid keep them coming :)

You might not read my comment but after your video it's been so helpful I play all my gears of wars on standard but when you said about the tournament it's been so much helpful pressing LB instead of A I'm so much faster at changing and getting into cover thank you

after watching a halo youtuber vid and your vid on claw i think i got a better view of what claw grip really is cause i thought i had the right impression before.I try to play claw but dont think its very comfortable cause of the way I have to position my index finger

Any advice for Elite controllers? I want to take full advantage of it but am unsure what actually works best. Anyone have any experience changing each sticks sensitivity or do u just leave it at default?

I gotta try that tournament layout, I've been playing default since gears 1 so it will be tough to stick to it.

I've tried tournament but my left thumb feels stupid since my pointer finger is like almost touching it. I lose grip at times of the joystick it almost feels like I'm playing claw with my left hand of how crunched up it feels maybe I'm doing it wrong. I use my thumb on joystick and use my pointer finger for LB and LT

i switched from classic-alternate controls to tournament-alternate , it's much better now. i got used to it very quick, tested i first in horde and then in pvp. i like alternate , cause rolling and bouncing are two different buttons, i cannot roll accidently in gnasher duel. greets from germany....

Tournament setting is the best. I started with default in Gears 1 and 2, Switched to Alternate in Gears 3, and then started using Tournament setting on the 2nd week of playing Gears 4. I really liked Alternate but I don't think I'll go back after having mastered the Tournament scheme... movement is so much easier.

default is good if you have an elite controller you can put A on one of the paddles and for the others you can use weapons or the other letters

Can I add some good sensitivity advise. Put everything on maximum sensitivity and play horde a bunch. and then turn it down where you want (higher than where you used to play). it will feel so slow. you will have perfect control over it. My buddy and I invented that strategy on halo 2

I've been playing for 10 years also and I play Tournament also. i started playing tournament in UE with the triggers switched to left handed. and my sensitivity is 30 25 20 with inner deadzone default and outter deadzone 4 (pro player settings)

Bluefang64 You use a paddle for X/roll as well? I play default with a right paddle mapped to A and I like it but am considering trying alternate with two paddles mapped to roll or take cover. Did you play alternate before you got the elite? I've tried claw but could never get used to it. The elite was a God send for me.

For me the upper left paddle is LB cuz I have tournament on and the paddle is a small paddle and the upper right paddle is shoot and is a big paddle. I keep my fingers on aim and reload button. It is very comfortable for me.

I see you use a XB1 Elite Controller, what about your settings for that? Would be interested in seeing an overview of some of the available presets to see if they're of any use, same with using paddles.

to me most people that play default play using claw at moments. After playing gears 1,2,3 I play using regular default but when I noticed how I wall bounced I change to claw without even noticing I felt so dumb lol so now I'm playing 4 the same way

Inner dead zone in 3 is a good choice bro

unless your playing one shot one kill, then it helps to zoom for across the map.

I know this is an older video, but i play claw and average Onyx 2 In all playlists besides execution.

This is my first game on Xbox One X. I am regretting it! Started out with tournament settings, too. I just can't freaking aim or vault smoothly.

It would be good if they allowed us to customise the whole setting ourselves. Because it doesn't really make sense to have the reload button as a bumper when a more important control could occupy that spot.

I play on 30, 24, 24, 10, 0, 10. Classic Alt, Claw, with my LB and X switched 💁

The Markza and Embar can zoom in as well

i dont find tournament harder to use, i just am not a fan of having to repractice shifting finger to my non dominant hand to be able t popshot and bounce lol

20,16,16. That's what I play on. Look sensitivity anywhere from 16-20 is good. Aim you can play around with, I might bump it up to 18. Zoom really doesn't matter

Tournament-alt Button maps: Right stick to B (melee) Right bumper to X (roadie run) Sensitivity 30-30-30 0-0 deadzones with aim acceleration on for instant wall bounces and no accidental evades or awkward claw.

Not sure what you're playing with then shadowz but i demolish you every time we play with my settings as default and 27 sensitivity on all.. Default isn't a disadvantage at all.

You could have thumbs faster than an MLG gamer and you would be at a disadvantage that's not an opinion brother, that's a fact. One gives you total 100% unlimited access to your camera, the other does not and forces you to choose between your camera or the A button. That's fucking physics.

Ill stick with my default. Im still faster or at the same speed as most people i know that use claw or the other. I move my finger from the thumb to a button really quick so i really dnt feel at a "disadvantage". but to each is their own.

if you play on pc with keyboard and mouse none of this is an issue. considering you use a hand for the keyboard and a hand for the mouse.

Been playing Tournament Alt since they introduced it and before that I played on Alt for years. Both were well worth the switch. Not accidentally rolling into walls alone has probably saved me 1000s of needless deaths over the years.

I play on 30 25 24 and my wall bouncing is great and im a great player (onyx 3 and i play by myself most of the time)and ik that tournment is great because you can wall bounce while aiming but its really hard to get used to it do u think i should spend the 5 matches trying to get used to it or i should stick to default (ps my finger hurts a lot when i did try tournment ) it would be great if someone can tell me if its worth it

welthon chimanski worth it but I don't recommend learning it on gears 4. I learned it back on UE which was a slower, bulkier game and easier to adjust to. gears of War 4 is just too fast. best way to learn tournament on gears 4 is private matches against insane bots

Hmm 30 25 24 that's the accuracy of your bounce

"not both at the same time" Um, yes it can, just press the back of your thumb on A while still having the tip of your thumb on the analog stick, pretty simple, especially when you play on an Xbox One elite controller or a normal one, I guess the paddles on the Elite one might help but I rarely use them. My point is guys, Lee is just saying what he thinks, my personal preference is default, I might try tournament, but I'm just used to default.

I play 30-30-30 on tournament and inverted Y axis on my right analog stick

You forgot to mention that you should gradually work yourself up to maxing out all sensitivities if you're serious about being competitive. Higher sensitivity = faster reaction time = quicker kill. If you and your opponent are both rotating 80 degrees to face each other, but he has maxed out sensitivities and you don't, he will get his shot off before you do.

How do people in Mexico City get into my games?

Look sensitivity >20 and tournament controls are the only must haves. Everything else is preference. Protip: If you'd rather use RB instead of LB on tournament controls you can swap the buttons using the devices app on Xbox.

No, you can't. I like the new/old HB well enough, but wish they would bring back the gears 2 or 3 HB back
