There is no way you got both arms in through the broiler door, haha. Great instructions though. Helped me fix my oven and save a ton of money

Realzed removing the oven floor simply by removing the two screws in the back made the job MUCH easier. 🥵
This is great. I was able to replace my ignitor after watching this. My GE Spectra oven was a bit different in design, but I was able to get the job done thanks to your video.
Excellent instructions. I used this to replace the igniter on a GE Cafe Dual Fuel range. The metal shields were shaped differently, but the process was identical.
just wanted to say thank you! I was able to repair myself and avoid calling my landlord or repair man! Whole repair cost me $50 and I learned something new :)

That's great!
My oven had the classic bad igniter symptoms as described so I thought I'd give this repair a shot, even though I'm not all that handy. My oven was a little different, a bit harder only because the igniter was placed so that it was hard to get the screws out & back in easily. I did have to use the ceramic nuts to connect the wires below, but it is all working great now, and I didn't blow up. THANK YOU.
Thank you so much! Our brand new oven works again.
You might add that the heating element is ceramic and there should be caution not to touch them as the oils in your fingers will degrade the life of the burner element. They can also break/crack easily.
Thank you so much for this video !!! It saved me a couple of hundred easy!! It only cost me 20.00 and some elbow grease

Thank you for the great product and helpful video! I would have repaired my ignitor in five minutes, but the screws holding the ignitor snapped in half when trying to unscrew them. Other than that set back, it was a easy fix.

This video is informative, but I noticed that you didn't turn the gas off.
I just changed mine. The new one tested at 160 ohms, the old one at about 190... but the old one looked charred and took almost 10 minutes to light. In 8 minutes with the old one, the oven only got to 103deg.. the new one got there in 2 minutes, that's including the time it took to ignite. So don't depend only on the ohms.
great job i thumbed it, i have model jgb770sef2ss , ge oven, so i have to access it from the front part of the oven (remove base cover) and also access it from the back? also amazon doesn't have this popular model suprisingly, where can if idn this?

One of the control knobs on my GE oven is not able to control the heating temperature of the stoves . any suggestions
can the wires be switch and make the oven come on easy or is this something elsa..don't know if it is the wires to the gas line or the lighting switch
I have a ge gas stove. the one with the electronic glow igniter. it stays on. we turn the oven off. the glow element stays on. we had the stove on and open for less than an hour. I'm wondering with part. of the stove I need to replace. the electronic glow element that lights the gas in the oven compartment ? or something else. I don't have a lot golf money and not meter to test .
My replacement igniter has the steel mount on the wrong side. What do I do?
Replaced the igniter. No problem. Very easy but igniter doesn't shut off when temp is reached

I replaced the igniter and it turned on. I can hear the gas flow but the burner never took off....got scared and turned it off. How ling before the burner to turn on?
the igniter on bottom is the oven and top is the broiler right?
I have watched your video numerous times and followed through on the testing. I have replaced the igniter and then tested for continuity on the safety valve, which I did have positive continuity. Once everything was back together, I had to reset the safety plunger on the gas regulator. I am able to get the gas in the oven to ignite, but it is a very low blue flame and doesn't change with increasing the dial rotation. Why will this not fire up? Is this a thermostat issue or still a defective Safety Valve?
@repairclinic
10 жыл бұрын
If the other burners are working ok you most likely have a plugged orifice in the oven burner or the safety valve is not opening all the way. The thermostat does not regulate the amount of gas coming out of the burner. If the regulator was bad it would affect all the burners. I would check the orifice on the oven burner safety valve to make sure it is clean then if it is adjustable try turning it counterclockwise to see if the flame will increase. If not the safety valve will most likely be the problem. Also make sure all the shut off valves are fully open, some regulators have a valve on the supply line to the oven.
I used your video to replace the igniter on my GE oven. It was very easy to do but when I turned on the oven the door blew open. Now every time I turn on the oven after about 10 seconds there is a big flash of flames in the oven. Should I just scrap this oven or is there an easy fix?

Larry Lott Either the igniter is not close enough to the burner or the burner holes are plugged or blown out. If the mounting tabs on the new igniter were straight, you will have to bend them to get the igniter closer to the burner. If the igniter is close and still not lighting properly, you will likely need to also replace the burner tube.

Hey, my oven stopped working so I got an igniter and followed the instructions. I noticed that one of the gas valve wire is black (burnt, felt crunchy when I pulled it out) and the other is red (which is plugs in perfectly). My oven still doesn’t work, but my stove still do. Please help.
Is there a way to change the cap on the gas val wire. It melted. Not sure what cause that. Also my ignitor might be bad according to the technician that came out. I will definitely try your method. Alot cheaper.

If you’re referring tot he coating on the end of the wire, use heat shrink tubing to cover the wire and terminal. You can find this for purchase at most hardware and home centers. It's available in different sizes and you just cut off a piece slide it on and apply heat to shrink it in place.
GE profile Oven model JGSP48BOH3BB anyone know where I can find a replace igniter ? I looked everywhere and can’t find a match. Thanks if you can help😊
The gas oven heats, but just before reaching the preheat temperature of 400 degrees, it trips the circuit breaker. The breaker has been replaced, the appliance is not connected to a GFI, and the electrical outlet tested fine. What is the cause?
I replaced the igniter on our GE Cafe double oven as well as the melted shield. It was definitely the original problem but now the new igniter will not glow. Could something else have broken in the process?

Hi, I have a same problem like your. How did you fixed yours ? Is the control panel is the problem? Thanks
Ok thanks do you know what may cause that to melt

The wires may have been too close to the flame and the coating may have just broken down over time. If the protective coating on the wires are burnt more than an inch or so, then you may be better off just replacing the igniter.
Will this repair work for the cooktop burnrs also, or is that igniter found in another locaton?
@repairclinic

This does not work for cooktops. The burner spark igniters are right under the burners.

So he was able to get two hands into the oven warmer to replace the ignitor, and he didn't have to do it from going in and removing the gas tube inside the oven? That's cool.... He didn't have to disturb the gas tube section.

When you have to use a wire stripper and wire nuts, what size AWG are the conductors?

Rocket Rider In fact it is 14 AWG ... the cloth coating around the conductor cuts nicely.
This worked well, oven is working again. But when I tried to unplug the gas valve wires, they were too tight, and one of the casings broke off. I ended up not needing to remove them, but accessing easier from the back of the oven. Does anyone know if it is ok to have the plastic casing off of one of the gas valve wires?

It will still work without the sleeve. Wrap electrical tape around it to help protect it.
What resistance should these igniters measure when they're cold? I have one that measures 170 Ohms, and one that's like 700kOhms. Which one is bad?
@repairclinic
10 жыл бұрын
The readings will vary a little. I took a reading on a new one in stock and got 320 ohms. The best way to see if an igniter is good is to take the amp draw reading. The required amp draw to open the valve is usually listed on the valve body. The amp draw on your igniter should be from 3.3 -3.6 amps. Another way to know if the igniter is bad is the time it takes to open the valve. The gas valve should open within 45 sec to a minute after the oven is turned on. If the gas valve takes longer or never opens when the igniter is glowing replacing the igniter will solve the problem.
My broiler won't light but my gas oven will go on and keeps good temperature. Is this the part I need to replace to get the broiler to work? Thanks

+Pam Hughes If the broil igniter glows, but the burner does not come on then the igniter is likely defective.
