GCorp Special#1 - 1991 Subaru Sambar Kei Truck 4WD Super Deluxe highway performance test.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

1991 Subaru Sambar is going on a 20 k mile ride in town and on the i4 highway. 660cc Clover-4 engine does a great job hauling a 500 pound Triumph Bonneville, about 50 pounds of tools and a 180 pound driver )) Guys, really sorry for a camera rattle it was not secured properly.
Overall the truck performance is outstanding!

I'm a working man and I earn a fair living but need to save for a while to be able to buy a kei truck or van but when I'm able I will definitely look you up. Much respect for you and the quality you represent. Thanks so much for doing what you do! Chris in Georgia

Had a 1990 Suzuki Carry for a while until I sold it to a Hutterite Colony. The Suzuki was ok. . I test drove a Mitsubishi Mini Truck last week and was not impressed. Then I looked at and test drove a Subaru Sambar with a lift kit and ATV tires. Much roomier, quieter, better riding and handling than the Suzuki or Mitsu. The Subaru has a electric/hydraulic dump box plus a 4500 winch that the previous owner installed. I am it the process of taking the Subaru back to stock. Going to a drab Nato Green with a wood deck and sides. I like how you can lay a 4x8 sheet of whatever flat in the deck. Plus, a lift box makes engine access a lot easier. Subaru Sambar is the 'Cadillac' of Mini Trucks, IMO.

These are super popular in the Philippines. There's also a Suzuki-branded iteration of them, and Isuzu also makes something very similar to this.

Sweet looking truck. I've never owned or driven a Subaru Sambar. I got to see a van version when I was visiting Victoria BC in Canada. I've never understood why such vehicles were never sold here in the USA. I would think they'd be perfect for suburban driving, if not commuting between cities.

If you would have placed the motorcycle front tire into the bed corner nearest the steering wheel & the rear wheel to the passenger seat rear corner the bike would have fit so you could close the bed tailgate. Both hands on the steering young man! That's the solution for short wheelbase cabovers

He is talking about interstate and freeway speed limits outside of rural areas in states that have speed limits above the usual 75, mph like TX has a stretch or two at 85MPH. BTW I have read that the top speed for this truck is at about 87.. but I'm pretty sure the engine will be screaming at that speed and she will probably be pretty squirrelly handling at that speed. I don't think I would want to do more than 70...

I'd really like to own one of these kei style trucks. My fiance and I will be moving from Baltimore on the east coast to Oregon next year. Well be purchasing a rural plot and probably building a log cabin. I work as a sud contractor and drive a four wheel drive extended cab Ranger. It's It's fantastic truck however id like find something I can use both on a job site and something I could drive into town and do so commuting in. Do you have any idea what the laws are for Oregon registering and driving a kei truck on the road?
