It was great seeing him get so emotional talking about getting called up to England, half of the players these days would only cry if they didn't receive their wages... what a legend!

05:02-05:07 when Gazza says: "I felt a bit lonely" and Russell's immediate reaction is to reach out to comfort him. Then Russell withdraws his hand, recognising that it's better to speak with compassionate words than to show his empathy physically. I felt such a pang... this moment will always be ingrained in my memory. God bless both of you, Gazza and Russell. Xx

Ó Braonáin although I don't follow football, I know what Gazza went through in his personal life. It was good to see him smiling and joking... Really uplifting! Football is kind of a religion, a sort of a replacement for a dogmatic God in secular society. It's what we make of [insert a belief system here] that matters.

There's a moment with Gazza which made me realise what's missing with our national team.Just the thought of playing for England makes Gazza choke on emotion. And that's what is lacking in the national team. They have no passion for the team. Its almost an inconvenience to play for England. And as for Rooney beating the goal scoring record it's a fucking joke.Bobby Charlton won the World Cup and Rooney hasn't because his goals have little impact on Englands progression in ANY competitions.Linekars golden boot from the World Cup is worth having.Rooneys goal record isn't worth the paper it's written on.

It clearly didn't mean enough to make him do everything to ensure that he was fit and able to play for England at every opportunity. His choices on and off the pitch restricted him to 57 caps over 11 years. And despite his passion, he still didn't win anything with England.
