Gayatri Mantra Sadhana - How To Practice With Job and Travel
In this discourse, Om Swami answers questions related to Gayatri Mantra Sadhana in Toronto.
The first question - If one's job involves traveling how can they perform sadhana. Om Swami says, there are different kinds of sadhanas. If one is doing Nitya karma, daily then they can do it anywhere. If one is doing naimittika karma, towards a cause or objective - then one does purascharana. Ideally for this one needs to sit in the same place and do it at the same time. Because this is training your mind to operate in a certain way. But if one is traveling, one should do the best they can but give their heart, mind, and soul to it. One should not break the chanting just because they are traveling, but try their best to do the minimum they can. How much time you put in is up to one, but they must dedicate a certain amount of time to quality chanting to see results.
The second question is - Why is long-form Gayatri Mantra not chanted as often as the short form Gayatri, is the long-form more powerful? Om Swami says that's not true. The purest Gayatri mantra in its truest form is: "Om Bhur Bhuvaḥ Swaḥ - Tat-savitur Vareñyaṃ - Bhargo Devasya Dheemah -Dhiyo Yonaḥ Prachodayāt".
The third question is - Can one do a purascharana again, even though it has been done before? Om Swami says, yes absolutely. Do it till you succeed, keep doing it again. Odds are much better if one does it multiple times. It may take at least 5 to 10 times to get it right and the results you want.
The fourth question is - Why is there a separation, and specific technique required to realize god? Om Swami says, there is no such technique as such. There are ways to train yourself. If you are someone who doesn't believe in God, then you could do meditation. If you are someone who doesn't believe in consciousness, then you could do just yoga asanas. If you are someone who believes in God, then chanting could take you closer to yourself - the divine energy in you. The separation is there due to conditioning, beliefs, and desires.

Agreed! Actually he is an MBA Graduate and was a very successful businessman of a tech based company or something in Australia. He is a self made multimillionaire before he decided to give up all wordly pleasures and took up renunciation and was in Australia. So no wonder his English and accent is top notch lol

To keep it simple. In KALI YUGA all u need is namasmaran. Chant the name of ur favourite deity chant verbally nd convert to mind chanting 2)if u r working offer ur work at the lotus feet of god and u r doing Karma yoga 3)By chanting gayathri manthra it covers all deities. So in between u can chant gayathri m. This covers ur spiritual sadhana. Rest r all bonuses. Dont forget to do simply pranayama. It helps u in ur divine journey. Om Sai ram
