How many times in a day the Gayatri Mantra should be chanted and right times.

lt is said that the most beneficial time to chant Gayatri Mantra is during the sandhyas (dawn and dusk). Some devotees include noon - facing east (at sunrise), north (at noon) and west at (sunset). Most people will chant a full japa (108 times), whiles some opt for three times, and some people will chant one Gayatri. However, l have seen pandits chant Gayatri once before a meeting; and have been with swamis who chant it three times before shikshita; and l have seen pujaris chant it at almost unrecognisably high speed before havan yajna. l hope this helps.

why not pronounce "Dhiii" , long in dhimahi ? as gramatically as well, this is a dirgha

How long do you need it - it's already twice the duration of the short vowels?

It's elongated at end of schloma... For example prachodyaath.. shd be pronounced like this
