George Galloway's Full Address: • George Galloway | Full...
ABOUT GEORGE GALLOWAY:
Few contemporary politicians have attracted as much controversy as George Galloway. A Labour MP from 1987 to 2003, he was an outspoken critic of the policies of Tony Blair and New Labour, in particular the decision to invade Iraq. Fiery comments such as "the best thing British troops can do is to refuse to obey illegal orders" saw Galloway expelled from the Labour Party. But Galloway returned to the political fray by founding the Respect Party and winning Bethnal Green and Bow in the 2005 General Election. Mr Galloway re-entered Parliament in this March as MP for Bradford West and has recently provoked controversy and criticism with his comments on the rape charges against Wikileaks' Julian Assange.
ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. It has been established for 189 years, aiming to promote debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.

Energetic, well informed and eloquent. He has an enviable ability to recall the minutiae of a wealth of topics - pertinent, or otherwise, to the topic at hand - and apply them with intelligent relevance. Perhaps sometimes a little too animated whilst speaking publicly, but this, I think, is to be attributed to his tendency to be emotionally invested in so many of the issues on which he speaks/debates. In other words, he genuinely cares. He speaks clearly, honestly, with conviction and authority. Authority borne of knowledge

For anyone wanting the actual facts, here was what Galloway actually said about the 19 year old Iranian being executed in an interview with Matthew Wright from PinkNewsUK. GG: “This is being used as part of the on-going propaganda against Iran...All the papers seem to imply that you get executed in Iran for being gay. That’s not true" MW: "His boyfriend was hung though, wasn’t he?" GG: "Yes, but not for being gay. For uh, committing sex crimes, uh, against young men." MW: "Right…" GG: "I mean, I’m against execution for any reason in any place, but it is important to avoid that propaganda" MW: "So you’re saying that his guy they want to deport should be deported because there is no risk of his sexuality, or he shouldn’t be deported because there is a risk?" GG: "He should not be deported not least because after all this Iranian propaganda he will be accused of being the source, or one of the sources. It would be ridiculous to deport him, and I don’t think he will be deported now." Now, mind you that what Galloway said here was 100% false. Mr Galloway’s claim that gay people are not executed in Iran is refuted by every reputable human rights body, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. When asked by gay civil rights groups to provide evidence for his claims, he provided none. So no he didnt say it was "Okay" but he did lie about the facts in an attempt to defend Iran's image.

I love George Galloway, I've watched this twice in a row. It's as if that other guy was intentionally trolling. I knew he was gonna explode way before he did. This may be funnier than the time George Galloway gave his speech about Margaret Thatcher in parliament, when they were debating whether or not to temporarily postpone current debates so that MPs could attend her funeral XD.

The student is not to blame, George! That's the kind of thing we learn at right wing universities, such as Oxford and Cambridge, where we are taught that seeing the truth is to be a rebel, a political extremist, and complying with existent views and rules, even at the cost of blinding yourself to reality, is to be "objective". The worst part is that these people go rule governments afterwards .. And they still don't know why the West is collapsing ..

@@PaolaBarreto Thank you! I'm so sick of foreign people speaking over Venezuelans. If our democratic and "socialist" government was so amazing... Would people cross the Darién to escape from it? I don't think so. Would most Venezuelan families be scattered around the work? I don't think so. Many of Chávez supporters during the 90s and early 2000s regret their decision of voting for him and many of them migrated to Colombia. This is why it is so important to have diversity in university campuses, so you actually know the history from the perspective of people who lived through it, or in this case, survived it. I'm just a humble Venezuelan girl with my family divided, but Oxford University seems like a perfect ecosystem for elitists who cannot understand the extent of the damage their ideas can cause.

I can make any assumption I like because I have experienced this all of my life when I was in the corporate world. So brainwashed are these people who come through the university system, so good at memorising facts and formulae and so self interested, that they lose sight of the here and now and wisdom, anything other than short term personal gain is completely lost to them. And it's MY generation that are today's city whizz kids...
