I have fantasized about living on and working on a ranch since I was a little girl. Everything about it, good and bad. The horses, the cattle drives, gathering the horses, mending fences. All of it has always been my dream. Now, I'm an old lady, but, thanks to you and your lovely videos, I can watch, and enjoy this way of life. It's as though I am right there with you all! Beautiful horses, land, and family. Very educational too! You do a great job explaining it all. Thank you for taking the time to film it all. You've made this old gal very happy!

I can ditto that! I'm 75 and now disabled with a damaged back. But I was privileged to own several trail horses for several years. A dream come true. I add my thanks for your videos. I love the way Henson and Jerry and Danielle and everybody treat their horses, cattle, dog and each other!🥰

Thank you so much for this. Very interesting to an English person who's never ridden Western style and is used to a very green, and often wet, landscape! What different lives we all lead, eh? KZread is a wonderful thing, enabling us to have a glimpse into other people's lives. Your horses are all very beautiful, by the way.

I learned English riding with 8 year's, too. Made all 3 test's, was at competition's but I changed to Western in the middle of the 90 tee's and to bitless riding. It is so much more relaxed and an "easy way of riding"+ all the things coming from the US comes from the Old west. I mean it all is very useful, no fancy stuff and military like training. These people had to stay in their horses for weeks.

Every Colt Henson rides shows what a hand he is with the young ones. They are so well started, If I lived closer, I would love to visit the ranch, My husband and I always talk about when we retire to sell our place and move to arizona, He loves to team rope both heels and head, there are a bunch of roping in Arizona. Its just a dream.

New camera is great. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain the training techniques that you and Henson use. Ie keeping the feet moving to make the right things easy and the wrong things difficult. Crossing the train tracks with a green horse. And it is so refreshing seeing a woman involved in the ranch work Respect. 👍

🤗🤗🤗. How awesome to be riding with you. I had my feet in the stirrups feeling the horse moving across the green land. Sure is beautiful what the rain has done making driving the herd hard to see but sure could see their dust. Guess the herd knows where they’re going cus no hesitation as Monster at the rear is helping too. Such a beautiful sight he is just like a fine jewel in the desert. Love the patience y’all take in training the horses even handling the foals and setting them free to grow even healthier. Outstanding video of why your horses are in demand cus you make them want to do good for you with a lot of stroking and patience and you’re never hard on their mouth. You’re molding into great horses for their owners. Awesome to watch and can’t wait for next video. Love these videos with a story to tell and now your awesome photography skills. Great job. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Looking at getting into some of the places you go to get the Horses, what about laying down some cues into them like a car horn that they will be cued to come running to at least in some places . We have the same issues in Aust with these huge distances and hiding spots, it would be so much easier to have them come out running themselves responding to a laid down noise cue . Even if you just get the lead mares or stallions cue loaded the others are going to follow anyway just thought it would take the load off a bit. The country is just so incredible, and interesting how well they do out there they just look so good off those paddocks . Although we never see the full length of the trains I often wonder if your trains are as long as our iron ore trains where you can sit and turn turn your engine off on some occasions and wait lolol .

Having spent a good part of my life living next to the Union Pacific railroad, it is always scary when you send a bunch across like that. We moved away from the tracks 4 years ago, at that time they were running around 25 trains a day on a single track. Your area is double tracked, so they may be running 100 a day. I think that is Class 5 track, with Freights running up to 80 mph and Passengers up to 90 mph. Ran across some 1941 Q Horse film posted on KZread y'all might enjoy, or maybe you have seen it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/daGZ05l-m63adM4.html

Thanks for the video, wonderful! Questions: When you are gathering a herd, did the stallions ever revert back to their natural instincts and try to protect their herd from you, maybe when they were younger? Also, does that terrain mean you don't really need a farrier? Thank you🙂

  • @PaintedDesertRanch

No, these stallions aren’t or never have been super aggressive. That said, we still keep our guards up at all times. No shoes needed out here as it isn’t super rocky… trimming is still needed for some- most of the mares are real good footed and just chip off on their own.
