    You are one of the few that mention outward swinging gates.. Thank you... I usually have to build a little trim frame on those.. What do you do for no gap?

    So when you measure 1 1/4” for the hinge bolt do you drill the center of your hole on 1 1/4 or is the hole inside or outside of the 1 1/4. ?

    Would mixing a cedar gate with a pressure treated fence look good? Or should you stick to one sort of wood for the fence and gate?

    I have mixed them and they look fine. It depends on your taste. There is no functional or technical reason not to mix them. They just have different texture and color. If that doesn't bother you, go right ahead. :-)

    Could you add pickets to both sides so one side isn’t ugly frame without obstruction to the swing or door?

  • @SWINGJOMAMA

    @SWINGJOMAMA

    There is no reason why you cannot add fence boards to the inside. You will have to trim the two boards on outer edges of the gate to fit depending on how much clearance you have between the frame and post. You don't want the boards to interfere with the gate closing or opening. Also trim around the latch arm unless you want to purchase longer bolts to hold it to the frame. I would install the pickets on the outside of the gate, close the gate, install the inside pickets except for the ones on the outer edges and use a couple of scrap pieces to see how close to the edge you can install the boards on the inside and trim accordingly. Good Luck

    will this sort of metal frame rust over time? Would it be better to just use wood instead without the steel frame?

    Hi Norman, Can you do the same process for a gate with brick block posts. Appreciate advise, thanks.

  • @normanwhitney8713

    @normanwhitney8713

    2 жыл бұрын

    If you drill out the brick with a 5/8” concrete drill bit and recess the j-bolt into the brick and maybe use epoxy to hold the recessed j-bolts secure that can work.

    Are the bolts long enough to go through a 6x6 post?

  • @normanwhitney8713

    @normanwhitney8713

    3 жыл бұрын

    So they are only long enough for a 4x4 post. Sometimes I see people who just recess the bolt in the back of a 6x6 and it actually gives it a cleaner look because the bolt is mostly hidden on the backside. However you can purchase longer ones from most hardware stores.

    @@normanwhitney8713 perfect thanks. I actually like the idea of drilling out a larger hole on the back side and recess the bolt to hid it.

    How would you install it on metal posts?

  • @abbeyhardware

    @abbeyhardware

    This is designed for wood applications, but could possibly accomodate if the metal was a heavy enough guage, but if overtightened could bend the metal.

    f the framing is on the inside of the fence, then how do we open this gate from the outside? I am asking because I don't see any latch on the outside. Please let me know asap! Thank you.

  • @abbeyhardware

    Hello, we recommend the EZ Gate Latch, or simply attach a string to the latch and feed it through a small hole in the post

    I think the reason the gate sags is the post starts to get old they rott and move

  • @mrreams711

    They sag well before rot forms. Corners are not held at 90 degrees therefore they sag, turning into a parallelogram.

    What I mean is when u want it to open outward because it’s a bolt u and not a hinge gate the cedar will hit ur post and not open all the way. I was 1.25 inches on the other side (like he said). Can’t get any closer than that. Regardless it’s sturdy just not for outward opening gates unless u want some odd looking space so the cedar can clear when u open outward. Or if u want ur cedar on the inside LoL! Look silly as hell from the street.
