I believe Ben Hogan revealed practically everything he knew in his 'Five Lessons' book. If anyone studies that book, applies the techniques, and practices diligently, they will learn to play a very respectable game of golf. I know it's true because I did it. I started out knowing absolutely nothing about golf, and today, at age 71, after a triple bypass and colon cancer, I shoot in the 70's from the white tees, and I owe it to Mr. Ben Hogan.

I caddied for Mr Player last summer outside of Philadelphia. He was doing push-ups on the driving range before we teed off...at 84! Shot 73 on a very difficult course from the regular men's tees. The man is a beast and one of the most sincere genuine people i ever met. I was amazed at how fit, funny, and alert he was. A living legend! Congrats on the interview!

I’m sorry to disagree…..he’s all about himself….”look at me.” He once agreed with apartheid then when Mandela came through he was Nelson’s best friend, according to Mr Self Promoter. No I’m not an admirer. However I do respect his opinion of Hogan who was a real seeker of perfectionism and not a self publicist. I realise this comment will not get any likes but please examine how he promotes himself and PSG eg his son at the Masters 😢

How awesome. I walked beside Gary Player on several occasions as a little kid who was crazy for junior golf competition. And the aging Sam Snead. Could stand within 10 ft of Slamm’n Sam hitting from the rough. No marshals around. The most beautiful fluid effortless swing of pure contained power I ever saw. I was in 7th heaven. Sam like numerous tour pros back then had this most amazing ball flight off persimmon woods and balata balls that are impossible to imitate today. The balls would start out like cruise missiles buzzing 20 feet above the ground flying level and then at the 200 yd mark would begin to rise in a beautiful trajectory. Things of dreams. Western Open (Chicago area) and the Milwaukee Open. The odd thing was Gary had a very small gallery and Sam had virtually none by then - about 12 people milling around following him. 12 people who knew greatness. Something else of note with Mr. Player - he was so ahead of his time in terms of nutrition, health, and exercise. The man is SO HEALTHY and in shape compared to all his now feeble and dead compatriots.

The secret is understanding two vital elements in the golf swing. One, u must create weight on the club face during the downswing. Two, u must learn to compress the golf ball instead of hitting the golf ball. To create weight on the club face, take a couple of practice swing with just one arm to feel the club face getting heavier and heavier on the way down. Do it on the left arm and right arm. Then try both arms together. Experiment until u find the right swing speed that create the heaviest feel on the club face. U will discovered that this swing speed feels a lot slower than normal. U will understand why everybody keep telling u to swing slower. But swinging slower without creating this weight won't work either. The other element is compression. There are many good videos on youtube.

Ben Hogan has a slightly bent left elbow at the top of the backswing, WAY past parallel, lifts the left heel, all things they don’t teach now. Point being like Gary Player said “ A lot of what they’re teaching today is a bunch of hogwash”. Everyone has their own swing. The only part that is the same for all great ball strikers is how they execute through the hitting zone. All pros basically look the same through that zone. But look at John Rahm’s swing compared to Hogan’s, completely opposite. Rahm barely has a backswing. So the basics of the hitting zone is what we all need to focus on. There is no way I could make my backswing look like Rahm’s, I have to be content that I go past parallel and strive to make improvements in the hitting zone.

Mike Austin was the best to ever hit a golf ball. Gary Player should know better than say Hogan , when Austin helped little ole Gary

Hogan did, of course, dominate. He is the only one to win at least 10 times in a year on tour TWICE (1946 & '48). Only one to win 3 straight attempts in modern majors TWO different times (1950-51/1953). Only one to win 5X in a year on tour in years of at least 10 starts 7 straight times (1941-1953, 7th year only 6 starts) .
