Usually the speeches are gushy, but Gary made a heartfelt speech and he deserved the Oscar. He was so British in his speech, I say this as a Brit, put the kettle on was the line to top off the Britishness. His 99yo mum must be so proud and may she make it to 100 to get a letter from the Queen.

@Del he actually had to have a vocal coach to re-learn his accent as it had gone haywire after all the different accents he has done over the years

He's one of my fav actors... I saw as Sirius Black, Ludwig van Beethoven, Dracula, Lee, Harvey Oswald, Zorg, the bad No. Stansfield, Commissioner Gordon and many many characters... and now as W. Chruchill. He deserved the oscar many years ago... and justice was done in himI =)

One of the best characters actors in the history of Hollwyood, way fucking overdue. He should have gotten this Oscars many performances ago.

Come on! De Niro "only" has two Oscars and Pacino undeservedly won for Scent Of A Woman after being snubbed three times in the 70s. There is no way Gary Oldman deserves more Oscars than those two combined.

@@Captinsaneo He is an outstanding actor but do you think that he was more deserving for his performance in Darkest Hour than Daniel Kaluuya in Get Out? It seemed like the Academy was making up for past mistakes as Oldman had been overlooked for more worthy roles. Gary has a very good chance this year again. I am not sure dude. De Niro's intensity was incredible in his golden period and I felt that he deserved a nomination for The Irishman.

Total of 2 nominations include this, and this is his first win. He deserves so much more.. Such an underrated but phenomenal actor..

Robert Davis Yeah this role was excellent and I think he deserves more than anything for, not just how amazing his portrayal of Churchill, but how he managed to get so much into a role that is drastically different than the man himself.

I agree this should be his 3rd but after Dracula and Tinker in my opinion. Campy and flamboyant to the friggin' eleven in the former, breathtakingly subdued and quiet as hell in the latter. His talent is insane

Most deserved. This should be about Oldman’s 5th Academy Award. Also the fact this is his second nomination and first win is just laughable itself. Just another reason why the Oscars are considered a joke. Those who deserve awards either don’t get them, they get them, yet they should’ve won for something else instead of the film/performance they did get the Oscar for, or they get the Oscar, but they should have more Oscars then they have. But finally, the best actor has received an award much deserved.

Ikr? Pacino and DiCaprio won for a wrong movie. I still think Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington should switch their lead actor win year. They robbed each other. lol As for Oldman, this should have been his 2nd Oscar after Tinker. He was breathtaking in that movie but beaten by the totally forgettable lead actor Whats-his-name of equally forgettable "The Artist"

LB2007 yeah, why Oldman didn’t win for Tinker Tailor is beyond me. Nobody really talks about The Artist anymore. Seems to be a forgettable film, like most Best Picture winning films anymore.

Lifetime achievement award, but it's Gary fucking Oldman man. Glad to see Denzel show his respect. For my money, he's the best actor of his generation...carrying films like Roman J. Israel, Esq because there's no cottage industry of black biopics for him to shine in, but they worked so well together in The Book of Eli, I can't help but imagine there's a ton of mutual respect between the two. Congrats Gary. Definitely your night.
