I think they learned from the last time they tried to sack Lineker after weeks of right wing papers calling for him to go - his colleagues walked out in sympathy and match of the day couldn't happen that week, so they brought him back the next week. All comments from the BBC about Lineker tweeting about this have been straight batted - no comments, or general comments about people being "free to express their opinions". I think the BBC management is not about to make the same mistake again.

Isn't that par for the course? Every time someone even tries to explain away any criticism you can see their brain contort to find answers or head straight into autopilot using preprogrammed answers... The preprogrammed ones are either an endorsement or the typical self-defense argument. There's also the emotional response which brings up Oct 7 and the horrors of that day, as if people can't see those events as unforgivable or at the very least horrifying, while at the same time feeling sympathy for innocent children being killed in Gaza.

Sure, but it's a bad look to be pedantic about it. When someone calls someone an anti-Semite they are accusing them of bigotry against Jews, whether or not the term is strictly correct. Responding with "I'm not anti-Semitic because you're technically not a Semite" or "I'm not anti-Semitic because Arabs are Semites too" leaves the actual accusation (Jew hatred) unacknowledged in a way that feels kind of pointed. I think we can shrug off the baseless accusations of bigotry without resorting to this level of debate pervertry tbh. Technically correct is the worst kind of correct, or so I've heard.
