+imyourgodmachine I agree, and I also agree that Gary Holt is the only person who was or is remotely capable of coming close to filling Jeff's tremendous void. They do sound great live with Gary. I still wish Slayer would do a proper Jeff Hanneman tribute, or that someone would. A nice DVD retrospective of his career with archival footage, interviews and what not. He deserves more than just a nice memorial t-shirt to me. Slayer are under no contract at the moment and could do what they wanted and Jeff's legacy needs to be better preserved and presented for all to see.

Jeff was Slayer. I won't lie, every time I hear his solos in The Antichrist or Seasons in the Abyss (among a few others) I still get a bit choked up. Thrash metal lost one of its kings, and seeing Gary - another Thrash god - talk about him is cathartic in a lot of ways. R.I.P. Jeff.

I think the same. He wrote alot of classic riffs. King is highly overrated and a arrogant dick. Jeff and Tom. That was MY slayer. Like you said that solo in seasons.. I play guitar , 21 years, i hate solos, to me it oten to mutch showin' off, but that one i can enjoy truly over and over again.

jacktv6363 Of course Jeff can never be replaced, but Gary is a good fit. They sound just as good with him now as they sounded during reign in blood. When I saw them, they only played stuff from Reign, Seasons in the Abyss, and South of Heaven, and they sounded spot on. Even Tom's singing seems to be getting better. If I closed my eyes and listened, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Got to meet him when Slayer played back in June and he is very laid back and super cool. What you see is what you get with Gary. Shot the shit and smoked a cig with him before he got on the bus. Met Kerry that night too and again with Tom back in 2001. Meet Jeff in 2002. Jeff was really nice. Kerry's really cool too. If you act like a douche that's how he'll treat you. I guess it's how they're feeling when you approach them. I read a lot on KZread on how Kerry's stuck up. Not the two times I met him.

Gary was the reason Slayer kept at it after Jeff's passing. They let him do his thing on solos for Repentless and he killed it!! He would also put his own pazaz in Jeff's solos so that he can make them sound unique. Gary did a hell of a job. I'm thankful he stepped in so Slayer could still go out on top. Looking forward to hearing a new Exodus record!

Jeff is my favorite guitarist ever. I have been playing 30+ years. I have forgotten how many times I have seen Slayer. (it isn't the booze and drugs). I am a guitarist!!!! Gary is different. I love him in Exodus. It has taken me until Nov 2019 to like him in Slayer. He did his time, but not even that. Obviously he is talented enough to play the shite Jeff wrote, but what about new? Is it all King? Can someone tell me? To get back. There are two guitars players I follow. Obviously 1 was Jeff. Gary uses different stuff. Some guitarist for a newer metal band bought all Jeff's stuff. I'll add details to this about that. I think they are death metal though, and Jeff....no. I'm sure he would like the guy (his wife did and he told her he sell them). I'm going to follow this band. I'll update, but to you this is old.
