The real motivation for this song wasnt that his wife left him but she actually committed suicide but his management and record label didn't want him to put something that dark out there so it got rewritten. As dark as this song is the truth is even worse.

@Steven Cryar Ouch, that's brutal every which way, especially the watering down by the label. I understand why they would do it, but as an artist it would hurt to not be able to tell the story as you lived it. Thanks for the skinny on that, and welcome aboard the channel!

Gary,is got this most amazing talent. You can hear his deep passion within his soul. Everything this man sings it reaches into my soul. I feel as if he pours every ounce of his self into his songs. I'm gonna give him not a 9.0. He deserves 10+.

It would be you and Songs about Rain by Gary are a must….Gary has one hell of a story so his songs come from real life heartache, his wife sent him downstairs one evening to get her a coke from the fridge and before he made it back upstairs to their bedroom she sh*t herself in the head, their children were asleep just down the hall 😢

noticed someone below said his wife had died - what a tribute to her - you can hear the heartbreak in his voice and even the instruments are sadly sounding for loss - great band and love Gary Allan - love his gritty voice x defo a great rating and reaction - and agree with all you say pal xx

Country owns the Steel Guitar... I don't think there is an instrument that can produce a deeper representation of sorrow. This is one of my all time favourite songs. Wish you watched the official video. At the end he stands up in objection to his girl getting married. The video imagery is art in itself.

Gary Allan first debuted in the mid 90's. He has a string of several hits including Smoke Rings, and a few others. Then he disappeared for awhile. Then he came out strong again in the mid 2000's with several more big time songs. He is very talented.

Wasn't really gone. Just took some time to heal. Maybe want whole heartedly into it all after his wife took her life. But once he got through that, he did it his way from there on out. Threw the cowboy hat away got some tatts and became a much better singer. Also had a throat surgery in there as well

Damn, man, sorry for that situation in your life, as it never quite leaves your soul. You move on, but it changes how you relate to people after that. I did a lot of crying myself, but then told myself after a few months, "Enough, no more crying." And I didn't, I shut it down just so I could get on with my life and function again. Still fvcks with me sometimes.

I forced myself to get out of the house once a week. A group of friends who I honestly didn't think I had much in common with. I'm just country boy and they were a bunch of hippies. But they played decent music and the fire twirling and stuff was interesting. After a few months I wasn't whole again, but I was good.

I also requested this, but awesome nonetheless. I'd also request "No Regrets" and "Best I Ever Had", which relate to the loss of his wife, who died of suicide, leaving him and his daughter behind. I also like "Life Ain't Always Beautiful", "Watching Airplanes" (his wife was a airline stewardess), "The One", "Learning How To Bend", "Loving You Against My Will", "Get Off On The Pain", "Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain)" (I think you did this before), "Today", "Smoke Rings In The Dark", "Half Of My Mistakes", and then you can compare his version which came out before George Strait with "A Showman's Life" and tell me who you think done it better. You do all of Gary's songs really, but the ones I listed are most, not all, of the best.

Best I've Ever Had by Gary Allan is one of the saddest stories in country music in my opinion. It's a tribute to his late wife, who committed suicide due in part to a rare form of migraines that cause unbearable pain. Would absolutely LOVE to see a reaction to that. Thanks for the great content!

Migraines are absolutely brutal. I used to get them, and would have been happy if someone put me out of my misery when I had one. I can't imagine the agony Gary lived with seeing his wife going through that, and then being alone after she ended her own life. Some things are just too hard to understand.
