Garry Shandling was one of the best comedians of all time. He was quick, inventive, complicated, and original. I miss him.

Well put. He worked hard at comedy as seen in his notebooks, which he filled with ideas, scraps, thoughts. Yet, he is so natural and totally capable of adlibbing a great line. He was one of those comics who was so likeable.

This was comedy gold. 1989. Sheesh...32 years ago. Point of reference: intel announced the 486 DX-33 processor 5 months before this show aired.

Man I miss the 70's, 80's and 90's tonight show.

I had forgotten how hilarious Gary Shandling is. I was crying from laughing!

Legend has it 'the inventor' who didn't make it on show for second time is still waiting his turn in green room.

I see this was Published on the 5th anniversary of his death and the day before I turned 60. The "It's Gary Shandling Show's" Theme Song is the most brilliantly written Theme Song I ever heard Music Composed by Joey Carbone, Lyrics by Joey Carbone, Garry Shandling and Alex Zweibel . R.I.P. Yeah Now. This was hilarious. Garry S. was doubling over laughter. And the two of them, Johnny & Garry riffing & bouncing off each other, each one starting a frame of thought, finding(maybe by accident)the punch line, gettin' the laugh, & thenceforth not missing a beat

I did see Gary perform when he was just starting out. He opened for Joan Rivers at a nightclub in Hollywood, CA. He was hysterical.

Sneakers on Carson, obviously really was good friends with Johnny!

I'll clue you into something. Johnny did love Joan, very much (not romantically), and he did a lot for her career. They were great friends offstage, especially. Of course, she was always with her oft-mentioned but seldom seen husband, Edgar. Johnny admired her sardonic, caustic wit and quick, flashing intelligence, and back then in the mid-80s, when she did herself up, she could be a knockout. When she chose to sign on to hosting a talk show directly opposite his, especially after she (verbally) pledged to him that she wouldn't, it was almost like a knife through his heart, the betrayal. But he did love her.

The 2 greatest hosts of all time! Yes I still include Larry Sanders as an actual show!!

Two weeks later....Hurricane Hugo.

Anyone else think it’s weird that Ed didn’t mention that he never worked for Publisher’s Clearing House and never gave away big checks in person?!

I used to like this creep Shandling, a huge fan of Larry Sanders. Until NOW. President Bush tries to be friendly, asks for help with the Correspondents Dinner jokes. So Garry mocks him, derides him for wanting to hang out.

I don’t understand how people still do opening monologues or political shows. They’re just a recap of the weeks news. Not funny and I don’t want to have the information in my head.

The most ridiculous pair of shoes I've ever seen on a talk-shoe guest. And I liked Shandling. But c'mon: You're on national TV. Put on a pair of proper shoes!
