@@brenlane9847 So far, the only person who has underestimated everything is Putin himself: He underestimated Ukrainian people's determination to fight back Russian invaders, underestimated NATO's unity under America's leadership, and underestimated his army's poor training and moral. A cold blooded murderer like him only understands the language of force. As Gary said it perfectly: Our choices are between bad and worse; the worst choice would be to show weakness against his nuclear threat.

Appeasers? Who? Russia is being roasted. Their economy is in free fall, their demographics were highly skewed “old” before they started losing 1000 young men a day (and hundreds of thousands aren’t procreating on the front line), and they are having to resort to scavenging chips from consumer products for what little war production they have beyond shells and bullets. This slow grind is erasing Russia. A quick win might have been better, but this way absolutely ensures that Putin’s Russia becomes dust.

NATO at this point should attack all Russian positions in Ukraine totally ignoring the nuclear threat forcing Putin to either end the whole madness or start the nuclear war which would mean NATO would be totally justified in wiping Russia as a united country from the map and democratize the country. (You would be surprised how many regions would wanna stay as independent countries after that with no Moscow influence.) Talking about how we are helping and boasting who helped more is useless. He is correct. We've had all these weapons in our militaries for just such a war as this, and when it came, what happened, we sat on our hands for a time, almost in a state of denial that this is the war we were supposedly prepared for, then slowly getting off our seats to release a little bit here, a little bit there, rather like a parent holding onto the goodie bag for a bit and then giving out a few lollies here and there. We were cowed by Putin threatening us, but that is his play book. We should have learnt not to take notice of that long ago. Getting off our seats a long time ago and giving Ukraine the weapons and training it needed early on would have saved so much of the lives lost and destruction done, and if there is one thing Putin understands and bows to it is the strength of a powerful response. Because of the way we did respond he sees us as weak. And that is not a good thing for Ukraine, or for us.

If Ukraine defeats Putin, how will the US justify military spending of more than 10 pier countries combined? China is watching and a decisive victory for Ukraine will take the air out of China's sails. Image if their only possible ally and past arms supplier was beaten by a country a 3rd its size. We'd buy ourselves at least 20 years before China got up its nerve again and by then Ukraine would be a thriving addition to NATO, Putin would be dead from old age and there's a good chance Russia would see the errors of their way and be on the road to beg an ally.

Well said. Simply can't believe west deters itself over "escalation" fears, what if Russia becomes failed state, how Putler will feel if Ukraine retakes Crimea. So weary of this. I think war would be over if Ukraine given what needed, when needed. All this wasted time results in more Ukrainian deaths, more cities to rebuild, and possible loss of best outcome. Russia defeated on battlefield. Not saying don't consider these things, but it's been nearly a year now. Things expand, complicate. Today, South Korean news reported NK going to send personnel to occupied parts of Donbas to "rebuild." (For what really?) The authoritarians aren't sitting on hands doing nothing. We have more ability in west, if only we'd use it. Putlers rhetoric has to be faced sooner or later. Won't change. While west was slow, Wagner head gained prominence, increasing likelihood of post war power struggle in Russia. Think time making situation worse for everyone, but esp Ukraine. Slava Ukraini! 🇺🇦🇺🇸

Seems most likely that the West has an interest in keeping Russian forces tied down and bleeding in Ukraine, hence the less-than-speedy delivery of weapons. Every day Russia remains in Ukraine, it gets weaker. A quick defeat would only send them home with more of their stuff intact, and presumably they'd go make sure ASAP that other former SSR's don't go the way of Ukraine. So from the POV of the west, there's not a ton of upside in a speedy, decisive Ukraine victory.
