It's hard for me to bash Garrett. When I retired, I purchased an AT Pro, it just came out. I read the manual, hit the old cellar holes and farms here in New England and dug literally hundreds of large cents, some early American silver, a few Reales, shoe buckles, etc., etc. I've since moved on to Fisher, XP, Minelab, now with the Deus 2. But the AT Pro was reliable and deadly if the iron wasn't too thick. And Garrett customer service is amazing. I'm rooting for Garrett, they got me into this hobby, I understand Garrett's money lies in security products. I know I'm dreaming, but I'd love to swing a Garrett again!

IMO The detector is short on features for the money. That is my opinion and others will disagree.

Perhaps iron bias is not needed with Garrett's stated new MDMF technology? For instance, the Vortex seems to be able to ID bottle caps accurately? So perhaps bottle cap rejection like on the Legend is not even needed? Perhaps iron bias is also not needed? Can their new tech still see good targets amongst iron? As detector tech improves, machines may become simpler to use, where traditional extra settings become moot? We need to know more about what exactly MDMF technology is? Wouldn't the detector of the future ònly have 1 button, and the machine makes its own perfect adjustments?

Im thinking maybe since I believe that 2d screen is a visual tone, and an adjustable iron bias will create a smeared visual dot rather than what appears to be a solid indicator unlike on the manticore??

***************************** I haven't watched the video yet, but I posted the following on another one of your videos about IB, etc. I'm the person (Tyler Cohen) who asked Garrett about the IB. The whole conversation went like this: ME: "Does the Vortex have a fixed or adjustable iron bias?" Garrett: "Yes". ME: lol. That wasn't a yes or no question. (Garrett then deleted my "That wasn't a yes or no question" reply and edited their "yes" reply to say: Garrett: It will be adjustable. ME: Does that mean it's not adjustable now, but will be in a future update? If so, will there be a fee for the adjustable iron bias update? Garrett: We are fine-tuning and doing more testing currently on the software. Making sure everything is good for you all before we start shipping in July. ************* Right after the Vortex's live reveal. I started posting on the forums that if the Vortex has a fixed IB, it will miserably fail the elevated nail tests and be a huge embarrassment for Garrett. A few days after that, is when I asked Garrett about the IB. Given the seemingly evasive and vague replies to my question from Garrett. I'm inclined to believe the Vortex DID NOT have an adjustable IB. By evasive and vague, I refer to Garrett replying "Yes" to something that wasn't a Yes or No question. In addition, Garrett could have just replied with, "The Vortex has an adjustable IB", but instead they replied with "It will". Also notice that Garrett evaded my question of, "Does that mean it's not adjustable now"? As such, I believe the Vortex did not have adjustable IB. I believe Garrett now realizes the negative repercussions of not having an IB and decided to add it in before launch.

Thanks! I looked at the quick start guide and it only has 0-39 discrimination listed. That in my mind is the same setup as AT Pro where you run zero mode and set your disarm to knock out nails and then use the Iron Audio feature to check suspect iron targets. bNo mention of a IRON FILTER=BIAS ETC..That I see Again Carolina Digger called Texas and the lady told him no...so we shall see

@@calabashphotography1234 Yes, that looks like iron discrimination not iron bias. There is no evidence to suggest that the Vortex has an IB control, but there is plenty of evidence to suggest it did not. Either way, it's this kind of critique and feedback that gets manufacturers to release better detectors now and in the future.

Calabash, I Googled the terms Garrett Vortext “high resolution iron discrimination.” I did find a link about the Vortex having it. I also found that the same feature is on the AT Pro and AT Gold models. They have “44 points of iron resolution.”

That's exactly what I think will happen. My prediction is that not too long after the Vortex hits the public, Garrett will announce something like: "We at Garrett pride ourselves on listening to our customer's needs and wants. We realize that many proud Vortex owners are expressing an interest in additional features such as tone options, different weighted SMF modes, higher single frequency options, etc. At Garrett, we have listened and are happy to announce that these additional features are now available as optional purchases for the Vortex".

@@calabashphotography1234 It’s just my take from listening to the video and I believe it stated that different modes were weighted differently. I don’t think the iron biases can be adjusted. Just another Garrett example of why I I would not purchase said detectors. I want to maximize my abilities in finding good targets. Garrett’s are for beginners. Most of there consumers don’t care and won’t even know they are leaving masked targets in the ground. In a way that is better for everyone else. I feel that ( masked targets) are Taboo for Garrett, the don’t want to have educated detectorists . ML, XP and Nokta are extremely better TOOLS to get the job done. Garrett will also not accept any helpful input from detectorists. What you get is what you get !!! I started with Garrett’s years ago and i don’t see a return to them because of there business model. I am definitely not brand Loyal.

Any confusion is no bodies fault but Garrett . They had a chance at an almost perfect release after seeing all the problems with other releases in the past few years. By leaving off the features that a serious Metal detectorist would expect, it almost seems that they don't care about us. But that this machine is marketed towards those people that are less knowledgeable about the newer technologies. It's almost like they don't care because they know they will sell.
