In this clip, Shawn Prez and Garrett Morris expressed concern and sympathy for the current situation in Israel. The conversation turned towards their respective careers, with Prez highlighting Morris's diverse career, including roles in many classic African-American films and TV shows. Morris discussed his experience working on the film "Cooley High," where he outlined the surprising circumstances of some cast members' involvement. He revealed they had never acted before but were singled out by director Michael Schultz for their unique qualities. Morris also talked about Richard Pryor's appearance on SNL and the circumstances that caused Morris to receive a cold reception from his Black peers.

Garrett Morris aimed to illuminate a pivotal moment in 1975 when Richard Pryor assumed the role of host for the seventh episode of Saturday Night Live's inaugural season. What rendered this occasion truly remarkable was Pryor's decision to omit the sketches proposed by Morris. While such a choice might have been seen as acceptable in an ideal context, it left Morris profoundly disheartened, particularly when considering the racial dynamics of the era. Pryor had assembled his own team of writers, including the highly talented Paul Mooney. Remarkably, these very writers would later play an indispensable role in conceiving and performing sketches for "The Richard Pryor Show," which premiered on NBC in 1977. For those who recall the iconic 'Word Association' sketch penned by Paul Mooney and featuring Pryor and Chevy Chase, it becomes abundantly clear that crafting a bold and boundary-pushing piece like that in today's cultural climate would be deemed nearly impossible. For what it's worth, it's worth noting that this was the first episode in which someone other than Chase uttered the famous words, "Live from New York..."; in this case, Garrett Morris had the honor, given that Pryor was the first African-American to host the show.

Then Garrett Morris pronounced the Legendary Catchphrase: "Live From New York, It's Saturday Night!"😂😉🎤🗽🚖🛣🎼🎵🎶🎸🎷🎹🥁🕴🕴📺B.W.

Garrett Morris is an underrated actor. So many seemingly undeserving stars on the “Walk of Fame”. For what it’s worth I hope his is there, because he deserves his flowers now.
That's why I used to always listen to the older people they have so much wisdom my grandfather is 90 years old still have the memory of a young whippersnapper like this guy
Lorne Michaels went to see Pryor backstage after one of his gigs to discuss him hosting SNL. Pryor gave a list of demands: he wanted over 30 tickets to the taping for his friends, he wanted Paul Mooney to be a writer on the show, he insisted on Gil Scott Heron as the musical guest, he wanted actors Thalmus Rasulala and Annette Chase on the show in supporting roles. Lorne agreed to everything. When he left the room he told someone “he better be funny!” Ha.
This guy is legendary! A down to earth brother.

Oddly enough, I’d never thought about that until Garrett Morris pointed it out, and it seems so odd and obvious now. Richard DID bring Paul Mooney, Katherine McKee, and Thalmus Rasalula in tow. I guess the “Exorcist 2” would’ve been the most suitable place for Garrett, but I think Thalmus Rasalula was a better fit…taller, louder and more imposing.
There are so many stories that everyone in Hollywood knows about each other, but the public doesn't know about. You just gotta reach out and ask those people that you may think don't know, but they do.

it is a GREAT Movie, Cooley High. seen it many times over the years.
One of my greatest moments in my career was working with Glynn Turman on the TNT movie Buffalo Soldiers, staring Danny Glover. Growing up in the 70's "Cooley High" was an instant classic. People would say I resembled "Preach". Having the opportunity to meet Glynn and talk about the movie and how he was casted is still a highlight. I would later go on to meet Lou Arkoff on the set of "Gone Fishing". Lou is the son of Sam Arkoff, the producer of "Cooley High"! Im forever connected to "Cooley High"!!
Cooley High is classic!!!!! One of the best films done in Chicago! Garrett nailed the teacher role!
The LEGEND Garrett Morris
That was the only way Richard Pryor could say I'm Sorry. That story is deep.
He's also a trained singer that studied at the Juilliard School of Music. I just watched Antman with my grandson and I didn't know he was in it.
Garrett has had a very interesting career. Love that he has managed to stay in touch with so many of his colleagues from decades ago. Ironically, it seems like, "keeping in touch" with people was more common when we had fewer forms of communication. Nowadays, you leave a job, and it's common to never see those people again. I know I am guilty of it.
