Just ordered vol 1 and 2 through Barnes and Noble. Did a quick look at the synopsis... made me think of Tenchi Muyo War on Geminar+ One Piece with some Valley of the wind mixed in. Thats a compliment by the way incase you are not familiar with the non-one piece references. Seems interesting but I cannot gauge how long you want the series to be. On one hand 9 vol might be enough (the smallest complete manga series I have is 9 vol). But maybe you see it as 20 something volumes like Death Note in length? Not sure. I only wish to convey that one of my pet peeves is series that do not make their length clear by having a set point to reach... not a deal breaker but it is not nice to be strung along indefinitely like the pokemon anime or A song of Fire and Ice (because I refuse to use the TV series as a bench mark of where the books are going). Like One piece where you know once he finds the one piece the story will basically end and the rest is epilogue. Its nice knowing that the Author actually knows what they want out of the story. An open end is nobodies best friend.

Aokiji's face was such a strong panel. He was crying but froze his tears before the bb pirates could notice.

I think Aokiji also applied the lesson of who to save. He saved the baby/future, and sacrificed the old man.

Garp is 100% still alive, narrator said his status is unknown and hes litsrally still conscious at the end. If Oda kills off Garp, we will see that moment.

Amazing chapter. For those curious on the Booms. I've read books one and two. The setting and world (especially the wide range of characters) is incredible. The action makes sense and adds to the story. The only negative I have is sometimes dialogue can be a bit redundant or predictable but easily at least an 8/10

I can see the whole "Zombie Garp" thing being plausible with Moria around. It's up in the air for me though, but considering how things are going, we might have another Saul incident. Honestly, though, I am very proud of Coby right now after how long he's been in the series.

As much as people try and say Garp is dead, I really just can't see Oda off screening him like that, hence why they reported him MIA rather than just declaring him dead.

Enjoyed the video as always. I liked your thoughts on how Garp could be used if he comes back. Specifically, your idea that Garp isn't SWORD. Also, thought the parallel you noticed between Garp betting on Koby in similar fashion to Shanks betting on Luffy was cool. I'm glad you touched on a possible division in the marines - that has been hinted on - because I had my own thoughts on this. I think the last lesson, Koby saving the battleship at Hachinosu, the Rocky Port Incident, and Koby exchanging himself for the 800 hostages is foreshadowing a key role that Koby will play in the final war. A split second decision where he has to back Luffy/the Revolutionaries or the 5 elders/Imu. Koby alone might not be enough to sway the battle, but Koby and the marines that he has helped or that have witnessed his heroic, selfless acts can.

I think garp knowing about SWORD & knowing how he wouldn’t be as able to protect his men with a gesture like this decided not to join but be sort of like Ryuke from death note where he’s impartial but helps where he feels like. This would allow his morals as a navy man & his vision for the future to stay in tact

I believe Garp is alive since it looks like Kuzan cloterise the wound Garp got from Shiryu since, like you said, now BB has more value to trade to be an official Kingdom. However, I also believe that since we know BB Pirates now have Pudding, they might have her use her Devil Fruit to dig into Garp's memories for any classified WG information and/or more information about Rocks.

I think that was the whole plan is To dig into garp memories since he is literaly the only one who was close to roger before becoming pirate king they both witnessed Rocks pirates and God valley specialy now that it's been revealed that Shanks Family are Celestials and the king of God valley is Literalu commander in chief of the 12 nights unites who CAN EXECUTE CELESTIAL DRAGONS ! And why does GARP HATES soo much celestial dragon and Have ZERO respect for them and does't even hide it

Kuzan stabbed Garp in the exact same place that Shiryu did. The ice could potentially stop the blood loss and actually save Garp. At least, this could work within the laws of One Piece physics lol.

Jinbei was kept from continuing with the strawhats to Wano because Oda needed to separate Luffy from the rest of the crew by the whirlpool which wouldnt happen if Jinbei was with them. But that being said, his reintegration in to the story should have had some sort or narative impact or consequence.

@@cortspadet I meant more so his reentrance to the story. He just kinda showed up right when he needed to and it didn't really impact the story in any way. He even makes it seem like there were no issues with him and his crew escaping Big Mom. Sorta makes it feel like he could have just stayed with them the whole time if that was gonna be the case. Either that or in reality, something big did happen to his old crew and he didn't want that weighing on Luffy's conscience right before the raid. At this point, unless Oda adds something it just seems contrived

@@banjo4smash862 that's what I'm saying. Oda sorta forced the ending of Whole Cake. Jinbeis crew could have wrecked Big Mom's fleet at sea, created ocean currents for the Sunny to escape. But he needed to separate Jinbei from Luffy or else he couldn't make the whirlpool scene in Wano work out properly otherwise.

Aokiji HAS TO KEEP GARP ALIVE Blackbeard was gonna use Koby for his plan and he IS GONE so he needs another hero: Garp. If Kuzan lets Koby go and just kills Garp the plan is lost, it would be the same to let everyone escape. Not to mention, if Garp were ro die we would be TOLD clearly. Hes too important to leave it in the air like "missing in action" and then 10 chapters later we are told "oh yeah he was dead after all" it would be trash honestly.

9:17 There's most certainly a reason to keep Garp alive. Blackbeard literally need him to negotiate Hachinosu as a proper Kingdom.

Fella, you missed something big. Coby has no talent or destiny, but has hard work COMBINED with the strongest possible mentor figure to guide him along the way. It's not just that Coby worked hard, but that Garp guided that effort productively. Also its interesting to think that Coby has been in marine school for a lot of the story, receiving an education in battle from an established institution. The next meeting between Luffy and Coby will be incredible!

True mean all you need to see is the Crew that was with garp all of them are Young Marines and In last Attack he literaly Toled them what to do and guided each one of them and there Talants ! And i truly belive that Garp let him self die to inspire the Young Marines Those Kids to before the future and to inherit his Will of D and his Work to change the Marines once and for all ! Since they lost Koby and all those people they had as slaves, Garp is a bargaining chip the Blackbeard Pirates they can't just kill off. To that end Aokiji will probably keep Garp frozen for the foreseeable future, otherwise they'd have to feed him and likely run out of food within a few weeks if not days.

I had the same thoughts that you mentioned at the end. What if Akainu(or the Celestial Dragons/Imu) make an order to Not save Garp, and then BlackBeard kills him. You give Garp a chance to have some final goodbye speech/flashback, And you give Luffy even more incentive on fighting Blackbeard, Akainu, and others. And you give a good reason for Koby potentially teaming up with Luffy vs one of those groups.

I have to disagree on one point, I'm pretty sure Garp is worth more to them alive than dead. Especially since Koby just escaped. Bb's plans for Koby are actually much more likely to work using Garp instead, since he's not Sword and is even better-known.

What's funny before the chapter came out, I remembered there's a special I can't remember the name of it but Koby destroys a huge boulder like it was nothing and I kept thinking about that scene and I was not disappointed.

not related to the chapter but something I have been thinking about... it may have been talked about before but people had criticized Dragon recently about not believing in Sabo when the paper said he murdered Cobra while he was seen defending Vegapunk later but what if its because Dragon knows that Sabo now has a troublesome mentality and didn't think it was out of question for him to have done it. We know Sabo doesn't mind taking blame for it and not justifying it to people since it adds to the fuel of revolution. So it was more of a setup for Sabo's coming revolution where he might not have same ideals as Dragon.

The comment garp made a couple chapters about freedom is interesting. Seeing that he values his freedoms over possible attatchments to marines could show him as a starting point for sword although possibly retired from it and is an interesting parallel to Luffy as he might see his position in the marines as more free than a pirate

It dawned on me, in the Brandnew scene of battleship bags, it shown 2 ships. This is presumed in current time. Me and assuming a lot of people thought it was garp and aokijis. But now I think it was garp and cobys. Since aokiji would’ve been gone for 2 years at that point

I ve seen someones comment about Pudding and her DF being used on Garp to find what happend at God Valley incident, thats could be interesting.

I’ve seen people say that Kuzan secretly used the ice to fill Garp’s stab wound which I like a lot more than the zombie theory. There’s no way Garp dies not knowing Luffy is in the right and especially in a way that isn’t nearly as glorious as his peers’ deaths

@@Dave_of_Mordor we literally know nothing about his limitations or any of the admirals limitations for that matter. He doesnt have to fill the wound like biofoam, just plug it. Also it doesnt even have to be on the DL, they need a prisoner.

Garp's shadow in Whitebeard's body.

I do believe Garp is not dead, and that Blackbeard would want Garp alive. His initial plan was to use Koby as a bargaining chip in exchange for Fullalead being recognized as a kingdom by the World Government. Garp would be considered a better bargaining chip for that purpose.

Since the report is that Garp went missing after the incident, it is very possible that he was retrieved by Moria's crew. I wonder if it is possible to create a zombie with the original shadow of the body, for example if Moria got ahold of Garp who is on his last breath, extract his shadow then stitch up and modify his body using Hogback's tech then put his shadow back into the enhanced corpse, would this result in the Frankenstein's Monster Garp?

@@amberfrost7766 There is a grey area on how some fruit abilities retain their effects after the death of the user, like how Hancock implies that her death will not release her victims from petrification. So what would happen if a shadow's owner dies after extraction, will the shadow just disappear? Or will it still remain? It is a interesting topic to think about ( and I know if the owner without the shadow was to expose in the sun they will disappear along with their shadow, my question is what happens if the body was kept out of the sun and preserved, can it be done? If not normally then what about awakening of the Kage fruit, will that change anything?)

Nope, the holder of the shadow needs to be alive and if they die the zombie dies at the same time, that's why they didn't just kill the Straw Hats and use their corpses too.

@@LuciusC Being alive is relative in One Piece, think Brook, is he alive? Brook is a soul inhibiting his own skeleton, yet his shadow still exists just like other living people and can be granted to other beings living or dead. Luffy "died" before his ability awakens. Big Mom could take someone's entire lifespan and giving it to a homie so the original dies yet the homie lives. There is also the question of awakening of the Kage fruit to think about. All I am saying is that if we have get a Garp zombie, I really don't want a different shadow inhibiting it.

guys i think you forgot the case that the bb pirates besieged BALTIGO , that means they can lure both the Revolutionaries and the Marines.. as we saw they already are on Egghead so that means they push forward to clash with the straw hats as well

Don't think Garp has to be killed cause as you said, since Garp isn't a sword member his more valuable than koby. Even if he was the his value doesn't change so Kuzan looks better off losing Koby for Garp.

Perona saved Koby on the condition to save Moria. Koby is a man of his word so the fact that Koby left should imply Moria is free

This is the emergence of SWORD. I have always seen them as adversaries to CP0 but I believe that they will grow tremendously as an organization behind this. Koby and Grus are going to start training immediately after returning to G14. From here on SWORD will really become "wild card commandos" going after pirates instead of being reactionary. When/if Drake comes back into the story, I think we'll start to see this group begin to rack up Ws behind Koby and Grus. Also, Tashigi is joining SWORD after this. No doubt in my mind.

People forgot that we've only seen the extra effort that koby has put in. We've never seen his actual training with garp itself, he'll probably explore that once koby starts fighting.

We have known Coby has had haki since shortly after Marineford, but that punch has made me come to the conclusion that Coby has unlocked Conquerors Haki. From a narrative standpoint it makes perfect sense for Coby to have it, he is a rival of sorts to Luffy and Luffy has gotten quite advanced with his mastery of this and you can't tell me that Garp's Galaxy Impact isn't Conqueror's Haki.

I refuse to believe that Garp is dead. He was still laughing at the end of the chapter and BB needs Garp for Cross Guild bounty.

BB pirates might send Grap to Cross Guild. Where Buggy play public execution performed by Mihawk. It will be Marineford but the other way around. But luffy will save Garp and Zoro will fight Mihawk epic 🔥

Yeah I don't think Garp is dead - they wouldn't kill him without BB approval - Koby is gone so he was looking for a leverage and Garp is a better replacement as not part of sword - He got frozen - the author says that he was missing in action and not dead - Moria is still in the cells so Garp will likely be send with him :D There are a lot of clues but I agree that this will impact the future

I don't really like the idea of zombie Garp coming back to say his goodbyes. Same with Jiraiya in Naruto. He is generally seen as one of the best deaths in the series because he was *not* resurrected in the end. Leaving future chapters aside, I loved seing Garp smile/laugh throughout the entire chapter. The perfect antithesis to his depiction at Marineford. Throughout the entire fight with Kuzan he lectures him about conviction..."wavering is a sign of weakness" (1081) "That just proves you are still soft" (1088) - mistakes that Garp made himself at Marineford. By the end of Marineford, Garp who had fought "successfully" on the defending side was angry/crying about the outcome, now Kuzan fills the exact same role. He successfully defended his island against the invaders but lost someone dear to him.

I misheard you saying "Garp is almighty and Koby is an egg" until I heard you say "he points at him and says 'you're next' ".

JB, great job as always. Is Koby the future of the Marines in the same sense Luffy is the future PK. Do you think Koby control the Marines in the end.

I’m wondering if instead of hachinosu mirroring marineford, it mirrors god valley. At some point luffy and coby team up to save garp and take down BB, a similar hostage situation may have happened at GV

JB, I’d like to think that Oda may have done some foreshadowing in a previous flashback. Aokiji and Garp are surrounded by all the same characters that Aokiji froze back when Blackbeard pulled up on him when he invited Aokiji to his crew. Maybe there’s a plan to get Garp out of there. It’s quite possible Aokiji is using BB in a way unbeknownst to us. Garp is not dead, but it’s possible he ends up crucified like Mjosgard or Yasu and made an example of. Using him as leverage or bargaining power. Either way, if Luffy catches wind, it won’t be pretty.

Garp philosophy is to not use haki for training until you need it, this accumulate haki in the fist creating a haki shock wave

The only problem I see with the whole zombie thing is that it was stated in Thriller Bark that the reason Orse wasn’t active until Luffy came was because Moria needed a powerful shadow, it was pointed out that the more powerful the body the more powerful the shadow needed, so with that in mind where are these powerful shadows that could be used on the bodies of the likes of Garp or WB ? BB said he wanted to traded Koby for his island being officially a member of the WG, having a living Garp giving BB a much better bargaining chip for this.

Random thought of this chapter. If Garp did survive and is being preserved or hostage. Blackbeard also has Pudding. Maybe we could see the memories of God Valley or maybe even the reason Garp never wanted to go above his rank. Maybe Garp say something or learned of something and wasn't killed for it. Random thought but as I let this chapter sink in I kind of think Garp should die but I'm not Oda lol. Love your content!

Other than Garp not wanting to be baby sitter to the Celestial Dragons. Plus it always puzzled me if Garp did know something and hence why his son became a revolutionary. "Oops didn't mean to tell you about Imu or something related to God Valley. Forget I said that." 😂

Garp will return for Koby’s justice where he doesn’t agree with “leaving the old man behind”. And the Strawhats v Blackbeard pirates is the perfect excuse to have Luffy and Koby to collaborate in a combat. Similar to Garp and Roger v Xebec & company

It was another really good chapter, but there were things I griped about it. My main gripe comes from Tashigi, I've been waiting very patiently for Tashigi to prove herself and get that W she desperately needs, an almost Pica-esque opportunity comes at her feet and Oda has her do...nothing? Like this entire mission where Tashigi has broke rank, refused a direct order from Doll, left her post, and accompanied SWORD to battle in Yonko territory which can easily be seen as an act of war, and she doesn't even draw her sword, she doesn't even leave the ship! I get Oda maybe wants to put her in the category of the next generation of Marines but at the same time it comes off as unproven and unearned when she was the only named Marine in this whole mission who didn't do a thing, even Helmeppo did something! We introduced 1 new character, named another character who debuted in a cover story, showed a recently introduced character's skillset, revealed 5 new Devil Fruit powers and showed the skillset and feats of Coby and Garp but we couldn't dedicate time for Tashigi to have *one* fight? It feels tremendously wasteful. On a lesser note I still am curious where Smoker is, and if Bogard will ever return from the war. It's also strange that Perona's attempt to bust out Moria was given no coverage, were they on the Blackbeard ship maybe? Seems an odd thing to overlook. My second main gripe is the break, we just recently came back from a 5-week break so I was hoping we'd get a few more consecutive chapters before another one. But on the plus side, Coby leveled up big time, it adds to the prior chapter in that 'Hard work forges heroes' when we learn that Coby has been stepping up beyond the gruelling training anyway and pushing himself beyond his limits, his response that he'd see to live up to Garp's expectation was wholesome too. I'm quite surprised that Pizarro gets backlash from the damage, maybe it's a Haki thing or maybe his fruit acts similarly to how Robin's does, but it is quite a big weakness. With Garp, I still can't convince myself he's dead, this wouldn't be the first time Aokiji has chosen not to kill and I still feel like Garp is worth more to Blackbeard alive, especially after the demolition of his island and the loss of his bargaining chips. If he did die though it is an impactful way to go, using the lesson he told them on himself and putting his trust in the future. But like I said, it's hard to convince me, Luffy is just gonna learn that his grandpa died in a newspaper? Doubtful, then again I still think Kaido and Big Mom are alive so hard to tell. If anything this could simply be the end of Garp the Marine, since this is an act of rebellion against the Navy's orders, he could easily just be disavowed or simply retire if he makes it out. Hehe, JB has moved from Ghost Piece to Zombie Piece now XD

If garp dies later on in the final saga it'll be in a way no one would expect but chances are that garp will live on to see koby and luffy accomplish their dreams as i dont think oda will give us a predictable or fakeout death with garp again, i think that once BB gets his way with his demand with garp he will return him to a marine base but if BB doesnt get his way, BB will just sell him to the cross guild and the marines will start questioning the higher ups and begin revolting

​@@To-attempt-too a reverse marineford is a easy parallel oda could make but now that everyone could see it i feel like oda wont make it a one to one parallel perhaps oda is using garp as a stepping stone towards Blackbeards true goal(s) and will just remove garp from the picture without killing him and garp gets returned safely or freed by someone other than luffy offscreen as to avoid another rescue arc as oda doesnt have time for rescue arcs now

@mokaljordan Fair enough. That would be predictable for sure. However, I feel like Blackbeard is at least trying to set up another war. It's a great bargaining chip for his pirate island dream to become a legitimate affiliate of the government. That's just my opinion though, it's not worth much lol.

Weird take

I think this Edo Tensei would be fine in this case cause the whole zombies thing was already pre-established. In Naruto the Reanimation Jutsu kinda feels like it came out of nowhere.

Garp is retired, so the sword issue might be irrelevant anyway. But if they have a way of restraining him I'd think they at least wait to see what BB wants to do before executing him. Koby's first thought has to be Luffy, right? He's a Luffy fanboy and that's Luffy's granddad. Let's go get him to help rescue Garp.

Luffy,Zoro,Sanji and the 1st gen Yonko has the DNA of a fighter. Meanwhile we have 4 ft teenager who cannot even beat a cat in 1v1 and just a regular guy tryng to be a hero. He train harder than anyone else and FINALLY he is on the starting line to become Greatness. Garp quote "Never second guess your self in the heat of the moment" Its my favorite this year period.

I was hit by a truck while riding my motorcycle.... this chapter didn't put me in the hospital for three weeks with multiple compound fractures so it did not in fact hit as hard as a truck.

What if the BB pirates give garp to the cross guild and then organize an execution of him to bring fear to the world by showing them that the pirates are truly the rulers of the sea. This will draw out many strong people including luffy which could draw out the gorosei which is BB goal

Koby is Deku and Garp is All Might, I love it. I can't believe I hadn't thought of the similarities.

Blackbeard doesnt gain anything by letting Garp die. They will heal him and use him to leverage the WG to become a member nation

I know garp power been decrease bcz of his age that is why he couldnt take out Shiryu in one hit, but DAMN the fking speed for an old man its insane! How fast do u think Prime garp is? just take a look on aokiji face when he blitz him, and thas a man who dodge WB attack with future sight(Katakuri style).

I don't see any reason that Garp would be dead since the Blackbeard Pirate's goal is better accomplished by keeping him technically alive but with a mortal wound and on ice. Blackbeard said what he wanted to do with Koby and only didn't because apparently Koby wouldn't work as the right bargaining chip. Garp would be the ideal bargaining chip though.

Blackbeard should do a similar execution of Garp like Ace's as show of force and this time, the pirates will be the ones trapping the marines haha. And it will be Marine with Koby + Luffy.

I read the Chapter. Blackbeards pirates doesnt kill unless they want the fruit. Its a Bonney situation.(I mean other than Reluctand Kuzan who can kill Garp, when Beasts Pirates barely hold Linlin with Sea stone as she is/was a fruit user) After the Goverment refuse to recognize Pirate Havens are a legit nation. Garp going straight to Buggy. SO we either see Mihawk make easy work of Shillew , or we get the set up for an epic and hillarious match-up. I must have comment it somewhere but can't find it:Buggy vs Ussop bloff battle.Alvida vs Nami Body changing fight.Sanji vs Crocodile Smoking Scheming royalties. Luffy vs Weevil( come on guys an ex warlord Ovelix/Buu character is bound to get under Emperor Buggy wing) Most wanted'son vs aclaimed world strongest'son ( they will end up friends like Goku and Buu to go fight Teach) and finally the only way we can get the fight we want Zoro vs Mihawk.( It doesnt have to be a bloody duel to the death, there is respect now) I was discussing with a friend and the only reason Dracule hasnt measure up himself like he did in Marineford with Newgate is because he doesnt have a crew.It is not that he is Afraid. But Fingarld and Venus are obviously end game sword material for Zoro and there were never any point for anyone of them to fight Mihawk( or to risk it)

Garp knows about Rocks and Black Beard could want to know about the events of God Valiy? Seeing how Coby has grown was cool, he can do so much more than he ever would have after meeting Luffy, what's cool about it is that the next time they meet I bet Luffy can see it and will be very happy for him. I'm not sure if Coby and Luffy will have a relationship like Garp and Roger but when the end comes and whatever happens to be the final battle I could see them fighting together to stop it. Coby along with the others are the inheritors of Garps will, they are what he wanted for Luffy and Ace, he didn't get that with his grandsons but with them he did so he can smile at the end if this is indeed his end. Black Beards crew has likely just started a powder keg, they lost Coby, they could have Garp he may be dead, the wold won't ignore this, Luffy won't ignore this either, Black Beard took Ace from him, now he's taken Garp, at some point Luffy is going to likely go after him because he keeps hurting people that matter to Luffy and he won't stop. One thing that has always been key to Luffy is his sense of adventure and finding the one piece, but God help you if you hurt his frainds and those close to him, there is nothing he won't do in that situation. What's the point of his dream if it costs him those he loves?
