    You are an awesome instructor! I’m somewhat intimidated by technology but with your information I have No doubts whatsoever. I haven’t even used my Garmin (it’s replacing a dinosaur Humminbird 2000😂) but been playing with simulation mode in garage and it’s fantastic. Your Striker graph videos are by far the best on the internet, and fishing tips are excellent! Thank you Very much for sharing your knowledge! Best wishes from central Texas, and Great fishing to you! 🎣. God Bless

    Really helpful and easy to understand tutorials. Really appreciate the tips and tricks! I just picked one of these up 2 days ago for ice fishing. I got it 2nd hand with no owners manual. I'm wondering if there is a feature that allows me to record my route of travel taken from waypoint to waypoint as I travel on snow machine through the woods from spot to spot and if it has this feature I could create a trail map over time. Thanks in advance! Keep the vids coming!

  • @1Cast1Fish

    @1Cast1Fish

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes, you can record a route with it...and honestly the basic striker 4 is pretty good for that since it does not show contour lines or any other clutter, you can just see the traveled tracks only if you want. I would however invest in a dedicated GPS device for travel if using it in the woods...especially if the area is "big" woods and more remote, or help is far away. The striker will work for small scale stuff, but I would not rely on it for big travel.

    You are the only person I trust to answer this question. I will be fishing in Northern Ontario in September and the place we are going is a large lake with dozens of islands and creeks and it is my understanding that it it is easy to get lost and becomes very difficult to find your way back to the cabin. If I make the cabin my waypoint, will the Garmin show me the way back?

  • @1Cast1Fish

    @1Cast1Fish

    2 жыл бұрын

    I will give you my honest opinion...Yes the Garmin will get you back, but I would practice with its GPS features and be 100% comfortable and confident in how to use them. 2nd If I was in a remote area and getting lost is a possibility I would do 2 things...have a 2nd form of functional GPS to get you back...whenever I am on big water I always use my fishfinder GPS's to mark a return point and I also use my phone as well. ( I have phone signal on the water) Just in case something happens. Also look into a Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) or Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) they could save your life if you truly get lost or need help. I have one on the boat, and also take it with me when I am out hunting just in case.

I am using Google Earth to get my coordinates and it comes up like 37degrees 21'46.37"N 76degree 50'38.23"W . The problem I am having is I cannot enter this into the unit like this so I guess my question is where do I get GPS coordinates for an area I am wanting to fish. Thanks for your help.

We were thinking of adding a second unit and was looking at Garmin as the boat came with a Humming Bird but gave it away as we didn't like it lol. Your past videos showed how I can mark waypoints that I will use to mark hazards like logs but I want the routes feature so I can have an easy ride without much worry. I have a question to clarify what you said regarding waypoint GPS maps, and moving the little circle with X to your waypoint location before entering it. I find this a bit confusing, I was under the impression (perhaps incorrectly) that the GPS functionality of the Garmin Striker 4, means that when you're off shore and you want to mark the spot your fishing over, the GPS automatically works out where you are, you only need to select and name the waypoint. What you were saying above appears to suggest that it's not an automatic GPS location finder. You got to look first on the contour map, then work out where you are precisely by sight, using the arrow keys to enter the waypoint? Have I got this wrong? I have never used a FF before, I am looking at getting the 4cv or a larger Garmin. I want to be sure I am comprehending exactly how GPS waypoint selection works, aside from manually entering coordinates. Great video, thanks for posting.
