Garmin Fenix 6 to Get Some New FR955 Features! Quick Overview!
Спорт
Here's your first look at Garmin's new HRV Status for the Fenix 6, Enduro, Tactix Delta, and more!
In an unexpected twist, Garmin has added HRV Status to the Fenix 6 series watches in last night’s Public Alpha firmware update. HRV Status is a feature Garmin launched on their Forerunner 955 & Forerunner 255 series watches last month, which tracks your heart rate variability values at night while you sleep, and then plots them against your baseline after a calibration period. The idea is you can use it for longer-term trending of how your body may be handling everything from training load to recovery, to alcohol consumption, or sickness.

I'm very much pleasantly surprised that Garmin recognised that the approach of Apple, to deliver some fresh software features to old hardware is creating huge customer satisfaction and making friends almost for ever ;)

alpha releases aren't even betas, it's non-production quality by definition. As to theirs official releases, well, they couldn't even fix a bug with insufficient storage, my 32 GB model has around 18 MB free now. Garmin is garbage.

Yes! Another metric to keep me up worrying at night 🙃
Very happy as a series 6 owner to see this. I think it’s the right thing to do from Garmin and will pay them back over time with increased loyalty to them. Certainly from my point of view I wasn’t about to spend another $800+ to get a Fenix 7 for a few software features so this isn’t costing them a sale, but increases the chances down the line that I’ll buy a Fenix 8 (or 9) as opposed to an Apple Watch

Simple, concise and informative. As always. Thanks DC!
Very much looking forward to this on my Fenix 6. I hope they bring training readiness too but we will have to wait and see.
Renewed my faith in Garmin and makes me so happy with money spent with the fenix, after being FR girl since the double A battery operated FR 101 (still have it and it still has my old data and still works!!

I wonder if my dream of having fully customizable activities will ever happen. Imagine if they had a list of all the run features, strength, cardio, run metrics, and features such as GPS, HR, rep counting etc. And then allowed us to create an exercise where we choose the specific features and measurements we want to record. And while I'm dreaming, imagine if we created our own library of custom activities such as sled push, burpees, wall-balls, kettlebells, treadmill sprints.....and could create a custom workout using any combination of them we like, with transitions turned on/off for time to move from one exercise zone to the next. Some people call it crosstraining, others call it circuit training, and of course we all know about CrossFit and sports like Hyrox and Spartan DekaFit. The term WOD is synonymous training these days, all sports have adopted this training style. It would be nice to accurately record them, create custom WOD's to share or download WOD's from others. Garmin could even host virtual competitions where they create a WOD like the Murph Challenge to download onto our watches and upload our results to a Garmin Leaderboard, how cool would that be! Is this a pipe dream? I'm guessing Apple will see the value before Garmin will.
Good Job, Garmin!! I made the right choice going for the 6X when the price dropped with the release of the 7. :D
Great video! Thanks.
Thanks Ray. Think I’ll wait till the full release if only a few weeks away. Let’s hope they add the the in app customisation as well. Great that Garmin are not forgetting their existing users.
People have been all up and arms about these missing features. I don’t know if the couple months wait should drive a different purchasing decision. But maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about. 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks for the update Ray!!! Best of luck with whatever is next week. 🙌

I also think the HRV night average is a better number for TrainingPeaks, to put in a graph or to see how your athletes are doing. The stress metric is good, but I think this will be better and is always measured during sleep, which allows for less factors to mess up the measurement! Hopefully this will sync with TP

What about the standard 945? They have the same hw and sensors of the Fenix 6.
My device has the same hr sensor with Fenix 7x but no any update for any new features; Venu 2 Plus. Thanks Garmin for forgetting us.
It was updated into the Fenix 5 as well!

WoW your F6 took a lot on the steel DLC bezel 😱😂
Side question....any recommendation on which watch has the most robust altimeter/barometer. Sort of tired sending in my 945 every 6-9 months because it dies (my guess is the pool is killing it). Or should I just buy a used low end watch for the pool?
The 955 seems very attractive, but it's simply too large for my wrists. I hope there will be a ~40mm watch soon, which offers this training readiness feature at a reasonable price point. 755 maybe? I wonder if the Vivosmart series will get this feature as well.

For me (Tactix Delta) it shows the HRV widget already but I can't seem to find it in the Connect app. There I have the HRV status which I measured every morning using the HR strap for 3min but not the overnight HRV.
Hello! Any chances to see the HRV Status coming on the Venu 2 ? It's the same Elevate 4 sensor 🥺
I guess I'm hopeless if I still hope to see this added to the 245 right?
Which is a better value buy the fénix 6x sapphire or forerunner 955 if you were to pay same exact price. I’m an avid road runner, but love getting top of the line things just to have more options “just in case” lol. Occasional hiker with once a year camping trip
I unfortunately have a Venu (1), so no HRV for me. I do wonder how more in depth the HRV is on the 955 over say Venu 2? Like how much more do I get going to the 955? Though I don't think Venu 2 has the readiness and recovery does it? EDIT: Like running isn't my main jam, more cycling and gym style workouts.
Will the Epic 2 get the HRV update? Thanks for your great videos!

Жыл бұрын
@ID I prefer the build quality of the fenix line vs 955 plastic. But I have now moved on to the Epix 2. That AMOLED screen. 🤩 The new 965 looks nice also.
It does make sense that they added this to the older watches, there are more F6 watches than F7 in the wild, so getting this "on the arms" of the thousands of watches that are already in use let's them fine tune it for the F7.
Nice.
Is it correct the HRV status in the coloured bar based on avg night hrv? Or is it real-time (ofcourse as reference the 19day calibration)?
If the Fenix 6 can get those features there is no excuse for not push them into the 945 (not LTE) Since it's basically the same watch in different case. And also the 945 already use HRV for stress score. I'm in the beta program but my 945 is having really big problems with GPS tracks in Openwater swimming since 9.60 update ( and 10.40beta) showing a "correct " total distance but the gps track shows only a portion of the path that measures between 10% and 50% of the real path that I swim.
Hey Mr rainmaker, do you expect to have these features on the 945 at some point? Best :))))
Is the Fenix 6 going to get the windsurfing and kite boarding activities? I thought it was supposed to get these .
do you feel like the Fenix 6 is still a worthwhile purchase in 2024? Thanks!
Great to see Garmin supporting previous gen devices! Interesting that the widget is delayed. That makes me think that there's some pretty inefficient coding practices over there if they have to reimplement simple widgets for each watch...
@Dcrainmaker
Жыл бұрын
The widget though is tied to a lot of other bits. So in essence it's not just this widget, but how it ties behind the scenes to the other widgets. This basically gets people starting to collect data, while the next update adds the widget in.

Training Readiness does not decrease as the day goes by _unless_ you record an activity (it can go up, though, if your recovery time, for example, decreases). The Readiness factors are Sleep, Recovery Time, HRV Status, Acute Load, Stress History and Sleep History. Body battery does decrease (or increase) as you go about your daily life. @Lasombra08

Of course you can use Training Status with indoor cycling. I do it all the time. You just need to connect your watch to a powermeter to get a VO2max estimate. Also: Training Load is available for every activity with HR, but since your fitness trend is based on your VO2max, you'll only get a "training status" when you get VO2max estimates. They might even add VO2max estimates for indoor runs with the HRM Pro/+ in the future, who knows.
And yet again Garmin refuses to share data between devices, why can't it take it from your other watch, even today it doesn't fully sync my Fenix and my Edge for my training status between gym and bike, been waiting years for this and it only partially does it.
