Garmin Approach S62 - walk through of how you would use the golf watch on the course!

Hey @Garmin! I'd be happy to do more reviews of your product! Like the CT10, G80 and anything else. Let's Garmin "Connect"!
I'm at Silver Lakes Golf and Country Club, 2nd round of the year!
I'll show you every step of the way, how I would use the watch from the moment you're in the tee box, up until after you drop your putt. The various actions to input data for club tracking and tracking your score on the watch. All this is important if you want to collect and analyze your golf data afterwards.

    Enjoying my watch. One of the most useful features for me is knowing what distance to layup to 100 yards. Even though I play the same course often, I’m never 100% sure which club to use but this makes it so much easier. I have complete confidence in my SW so helps w score. On wet bunkers, only use 60 or 58 degree wedge and make sure you keep weight left and follow through. A couple questions 1) how do you get to “plays like”, 2) how do you get specific club manufacturer each time you enter club you hit (mine only says driver, 3 wood, etc) and 3) how do you get to compass? One problem I have is that I often forget to enter which club I just hit. This watch is unreal.

  • @JitzKing

    @JitzKing

    4 жыл бұрын

    NYC Entrepreneur 1) plays like, tap the yardages on the left and you’ll see it switch to arrows pointing up or down. 2). You can customize your clubs and label in the golf app under more, club performance. 3) compass, you’ll need to download a widget. Unless you meant PinPointer or Wind, that will be in your golf menu. Thanks for the tip, I’ll give it a try! I’m eyeing new wedges now...

    Hi EK, thank you for the video. I have a couple of questions for you that concern water hazard / penalty strokes. First, a hypothetical: 1) Let's say I play a hole with a water hazard in front of the green, and I hit the ball into the water hazard using a 7 iron. I take my drop where the ball crossed into the water hazard, approximately 20 yards shorter than where the ball would have "landed". Is there a way to document the shot on the S62 or Garmin Connect App so that it doesn't skew the club distance tracking statistics of my 7 iron? 2) When I score the hole using the S62, would I count the total number of strokes (including the penalty stroke) on the first screen, or would I only count the number of actual strokes I took, and then on that fourth screen is where I add the penalty stroke?

  • @JitzKing

    @JitzKing

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Andrew! 1) yes, you can edit your shots in the Golf app after to “remove” the club used for that shot. Shot will still show, but it won’t associate it with a club, so won’t skew your club distance stats 2) you could count the total strokes, including penalty strokes (just like you would on a scorecard). On the 4th screen, you would then say how many penalties you took (as if you were tracking penalties on a scorecard). Hope that helps!

    Great review EK. Did the S62 accurately track your steps? When I use the S42 and I ride a cart, it still thinks I walked the course and tells me after the round I've walked for example 12,000 steps when I really didn't. I do care about how many steps I really walk but don't want to cheat with inaccurate step counts through riding a cart. Let me know. Thanks.

    Hey, nice video! I’m looking into this myself but don’t play enough to really justify the purchase yet lol! As far as your bunker shot, the first one you didn’t swing nearly as hard enough. In wet sand you have to swing harder cause you have heavier sand to get thru. That’s what happened to me on the weekend when I played here in Windsor Ontario. Obviously you want to hit behind the ball cause a big swing with no sand with fly the ball 100 yards out lol. Saw a Phil Mickelson bunker tip once and he said you want to swing hard enough that the sand lands just on the green - it’s how you know your swinging hard enough. Hope this makes sense and helps you out!

    You have a beautiful swing. The only thing I saw that might affect your distance is that I saw you picking up/rocking your forward foot instead of keeping it planted solidly on the ground and keeping it solidly there like a flag pole and rotating your body solidly around a solidly planted flag pole. I've learned that if I don't keep my left foot on the ground solidly (I'm a right handed player) I'm screwed. My girlfriend rocks her forward foot and I outdrive her by 10 to 30 yards and I'm a 58 year old woman. Playing from the ladies tees i can also drive as far or almost as far as my husband.

    Is the S62 the only watch that allows you to enter what club you hit, and then based on your next shot record the distance? I think this is way better than those dodgy tags that miss shots..

    I’m absolutely love this watch and the features are amazing however the plays like feature seems some way off. Now I’m not expecting it to be bang on but putting it against a rangefinder with slope and the difference has been dramatic. Yesterday when I played I was clearly some way below the hole’ I was expecting minimum 10 yards increase to the distance but it only added 1 yard. Has anyone else had these issues

  • @JitzKing

    Hey0mcfly, I’ve noticed also that the plays like doesn’t always “drastically” change when visually I think it does. Particularity Par 3s, my friends will laser we come up with the same distance. Haven’t tested enough to conclude, I’m waiting to play at a hole where it’s extremely downhill and see. When you were expecting 10 yard increase, where did your ball end up landing?

    EK well I decided to go with the rangefinder yardage and found that distance correct, something I’ve also now noticed is the yardage calculations after I take a shot on course seem short, but then when I get home and look at my shots they have adjusted and gained a few more yards. I’m wondering whether a reset might be in order

  • @JitzKing

    @JitzKing

    hey0mcfly interesting! Definitely won’t be as accurate as a range finder. I don’t think a reset will help because it’s all the same course data in the database. Also, factor in some tolerance with the GPS signal. My friend can stand next to me with the same watch, and we could be 1-2y different

    Tnank's for the videos on the watch. Been researching a GPS watch and highly considering this one. 1. Does it do fairly well as a normal smartwatch? Notifications and all? I use a smartwatch now and I would like this watch to function well as both a GPS watch and for everyday use. 2. As far as you asking about your swing. I thought you hit the ball solid, and kept it in play well on the shots shown in the video. Only thing I saw was how you fan the club open with your wrists on backswing instead of keeping it square and letting your body rotate. It causes an open face at the top, and makes you use allot of wrist action to get it back square which you actually so a great job of but that can cause inconstancy issues especially on lower lofted clubs. I know because that is currently the same issue I am working on getting out of my swing!. Look up Danny Maude on KZread. He discusses this backswing fault allot.. He is one of my favorite instructors on KZread. Again thanks for the videos.

    Hey Wes thanks for the comments. I absolutely love this watch. Notifications for txts or whatsapp come through great. I found more issues with my Apple Watch tbh. But, flip side, don’t expect it to compete with smart watch features like Apple with different applications you can install. But, having used this watch, I don’t miss those apps. Only thing I miss is being able to have calls through the watch. GPS is also fantastic for other outdoor activities. Thanks for the swing tip! I’ve caught Danny and many others and throughout the season I’ve made corrections to my swing, especially the tip you just suggested. I finally picked up a driver and you can imagine, with my open face, I was slicing everything, hard! It’s been a blessing to get the driver because I now have the feel to keep the face square/closed and am now launching straight bullets! Still striving for more distance so something to work on during the off season. Also, I’m plan to share my golf journey over the course of this season with various tweaks that I have personally made. I’ve gone from shooting 100 to a PB of 80! So stay tuned and would appreciate your continued feedback and support!

    @@JitzKing Look forward to your journey on KZread. I am in the same boat. My personal best is a 80 as well but sadly that was about 2012 had some back surgery in 2014 and then developed some nasty swing habits, and was struggling to break 100 again. Very frustrating. So I have been practicing, watching Danny Maude and I am starting to get a reliable strong swing back (finally hitting the center of the clubface instead of towards the toe.) Just ordered my Garmin S62 today thanks to your videos. I researched all and almost purchased the Skycaddie LX5 but hated that you have to press the button to view screen, that and I think the battery life is subpar. Again thanks for your videos, and I am going to subscribe to follow your journey. I may create some videos as well since I am staring to play more.
