    Does parking mode detect movement, not just an incident like the vehicle is hit? Have you tested that?

  • @atpgarageatl

    @atpgarageatl

    2 жыл бұрын

    Good question. This camera when switched to parking mode only detects incidents. I’ve also tested it quite a few times and it is very hit and miss on how accurate it is even with the sensitivity on high. If someone dings your door it’s not likely going to switch on but if it gets hit hard enough to shake the vehicle (do real damage) it turns on every time. I tested this by shaking the vehicle and tapping the glass. My camera is mounted in a 4Runner so a smaller vehicle may have different results.

    Does the timer restarts on the Constant Power Cable? I’ve read somewhere on the Garmin Support Page, “The Constant Power Cable has a time switch to set the length of time the cable continues to supply power after you exit the vehicle. This timer restarts whenever outside motion is detected. Examples include: someone bumps the vehicle, opening/closing the vehicle door, vehicle is being driven, strong winds.” Can this be an alternative from installing the Garmin Parking Mode Cable? Also does the Constant Power Cable drains your car’s battery when set to 24hrs or infinite?

  • @atpgarageatl

    @atpgarageatl

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, the timer does reset when the camera detects an impact event or motion. The adapter doesn’t drain the battery because it monitors the incoming voltage and will shut off if it detects the voltage has dropped below the threshold. Garmin has it programmed this way to prevent it from ever draining to the point the car would not start.

    @@atpgarageatl Thank you for the reply and answering my questions. But not the answers I’m looking for. Apologies as I may have asked the wrong questions. What I’m looking for is an alternative Parking Mode feature. In Garmin’s website this can only be enable by installing the Garmin Parking Mode Cable. But I’m uncomfortable with the installation and wiring being complicated and a hassle. Then I’ve found out about the Garmin Constant Power Cable but I’m confused about it’s use and features. My questions are, Can installing the Constant Power Cable be an alternative to installing the Parking Mode Cable, in order to activate, “Parking Mode”? If not, why? What are the difference? Does the timer restarts on the Constant Power Cable when outside motion is detected? What I mean is, for example, when the car is parked and the ignition turned off. Dash Cam Parking Mode activated and the Constant Power Cable is set to 10min. After 10 min, the Constant Power Cable shuts down, not supplying power to the Dash Cam. Then after some time a motion is detected. Does the Dash Cam automatically turns on and records the incident? And does the Constant Power Cable also turns on due to the Dash Cam recording the incident and restart the 10min countdown timer? Sorry for the long questions and I hope you can answer them.. Great video btw, keep it up 👍

    @@fae_275 I have parking mode enabled on my camera using the power adapter mentioned in my video. I have had no issues using it with this cable. You are correct if you have the power cable set to 10 minutes it will turn off 10 minutes after the car has shut off. The camera will then shut down until another motion/impact event is detected. If an impact is detected the camera will turn back on and the cable will begin supplying power for 10 additional mins. If no additional motion is detected it will shut itself back off after the 10 mins is up. The other two options are 24 hours so it will stay on for 24 hours after the vehicle is turned off or it has infinite so it stays on until it detects the voltage from the battery is below the threshold programmed by Garmin. That threshold is essentially when it detects the battery get close to the point of not starting the car. The duration of this depends on your car and how large the battery is. Hope this helps.

    @@atpgarageatl So the Parking Mode feature can function even without installing the Parking Mode Cable. Weird how in Garmin Support Page state that, “Parking Mode Cable accessory must be connected to the dash cam before it can record videos while parked” and “that the Constant power Cable cannot be used for Parking Mode.” Thank you for your reply to my questions. It depends on what you have the adapter set to. The are three options: 10 Mins, 24 hrs or indefinite. The camera also has options for a park feature which further determine how long the camera stays on after you shut the car off. The adapter has a sensor that monitors the voltage of the battery so even if you leave it on 24/7 it should turn off if it detects the car battery dropping below a certain %.
