When I watched it as a child I just found the series cool. But when I was older I realized just how well done the story, the art style, the soundtrack, etc. is and after finding it again I watche the whol series and getting reminded of my childhood. ^^

It breaks my heart that part where Demona tells Goliath that he loved her and he closes his eyes holding back tears. Because it was true, Goliath loved Demona with all his heart, they even became parents together. But she went the wrong way 😔

By the city of stone story arc, Goliath begins considering that killing might be the best solution to dealing with her constant schemes. It's sad really, from the love of his life to one of his most hated enemies

Me: Goliath. Demona had a Heart Of Stone, since I read her diary. Goliath: you found her diary? how can you tell her story? Me: The Weird Sisters shows me the Crystal Ball of her killing humans. Brooklyn: Not Demona! She couldn’t!😢 Me: She was deceived by a lie, we all were. It appears that the Captain was being use by Hakon after what he did to your late clan, including the war. Hakon becomes a ghost since he & the Captain died from falling down into the Abyss, & now Hakon is coming back for revenge. After when Demona came back home since you Manhattan Clan were in Stones for a thousand years, She was furious & now she became her Reign Of Madness. Hudson: if what you said is true, I do not believe you, we can not.😔 Me: Goliath, you must find her, she is your wife, she is your mate. When the time comes, you have a child. Goliath: what if I intend to kill her? Me: no Goliath, I disagree with that, she has become a very great threat but you rather her to let her live forever, not until you still love her. Not to defend Demona but, she did choose the right with Macbeth. It was Macbeth’s hesitation to betray the Gargoyles( A king must consider his options) that drove Demona down the path that humanity is evil once again. Goliath didn’t even try to understand why Demona feels this way.

Demona: "HUMANITY IS A POISON THAT MUST BE PURGED FROM THIS PLANET!" Xanatos: "I'm standing right here, but sure, whatever."

I cannot imagine what Goliath was going through in this whole scene. He lived in late 10th century Scotland with a large clan, became their leader and was in love with his mate, only for him to lose most of his clan, including him thinking his mate was dead, because their one human ally betrayed them, along with his mate, then he and the remaining clan he had are cast to be statues until the castle is above the clouds, which wouldn't happen until 1,000 years later. Then he wakes up, finds out his mate was actually alive, totally rejoiced, but later learns that Xanatos, who brought he and his clan awake, lied to and manipulated them and learns of his mate's betrayal to him and their clan. The pure heartache and devastation must be overwhelming. Stuff like this is why Gargoyles is one of my top 5 favourite shows.

Sometimes I wish Demona wasn't a villain. She has been consumed with hatred and bitterness for a thousand years she's lost sight of the Gargoyle way. Her hatred for humans is really her lashing out because her guilt and pain for what happened to her clan. I think she would have been a good addition to the Manhattan Clan and not be so alone like she had been for 1,000 years.

Her hatred stemmed from her being unable to accept any slight to her and her kind. She wanted a life where Gargoyles weren't discriminated against. Its not a horrible goal. The issue arises that while Goliath is patient enough to endure the insults, let the humans realize their mistakes and change, cause he knows they can, Demona isn't. Demona hasn't lost sight of the Gargoyle way, she is the utmost extreme end of it. Protect Gargoyles at all costs. She just went to far into it. Protecting Gargoyles from threats that weren't there. Her plan failing only made her fundamental flaw worse. It gave her an excuse, a crutch, to blame her actions and future actions on.

@@goliathgar4985 If you are gonna quote something from the show to prove a point, at least quote it right man. Another thing, Hudson sided with Elisa to move from the castle to the clock tower. The Gargoyle way isnt just "Protect the castle". A gargoyle's nature is to protect in general. Their home, their friends, their loved ones. Demona repeatedly makes plans that would "save" the gargoyles from humans. Most notably her plan with the cleaning agent and the praying gargoyle. Note, I am not defending Demona here. Simply explaining how I see her character. She is evil, no question.

I love this scene and will narrow it down to ONE specific scene. Goliath in his moment had the chance to save one. He saved Elisa. I wondered if Demona did see how he swooped down and choose the human over her? It’s interesting Goliath had to do the right thing and that was save the one who was loyal and protecting him.

While he's always chose the humans over her. And she has wings to fly. Plus if she wasn't firing such a powerful gun in the first place she wouldn't of created the damage to cause her to fall. So while it's a good scene it still has some whole with the setup.

Reminds me of my mental health crisis in my younger days. Im not schizophrenic, im just paranoid. "Wait, my obsessions are sick, maybe I'm a psych- NO! I SANE, I'M TOTALLY SANE! I CAN'T LOSE MY SENSE OF REALITY I CAN'T!" While deep inside I'm like "I DON'T WANNA BE CAGED IN ASYLUM😥"

Goliath and Demona both of reasonable and truthful points of view. Goliath is totally right that "there is good and evil in all of us, human and gargoyle alike". Basically saying, NO ONE is perfect, but that doesn't mean evil out ways the goodness in people or creatures. But Demona point of view, is "somewhat" understandable. She is only doing this out of fear, and pain from losing her clan all those years ago. So pointing the claw (if you will), at the humans for killing them off, she over the years; saw only the bitter evil side of humans then the caring nature side. Which led her to want to take harsh cruel revenge on humans. Seeking a higher power over time, she became consumed in by her hatred towards humans and that's all she came to know and stride for. Quite sad, if you think about it.

I wouldn't even say that. Demona is her own worst enemy. Demona's hatred of humans is without a doubt sincere, but it was radicalized by her own guilt and self loathing. It's why Demona will never come to terms with what she's done, and will always blame everything either on Goliath or on humanity. Because it would mean coming to terms with what she's done, and that's something she can't bring herself to do, face the responsibility that she played a role in her clan's destruction

@@texasgent4694 Yes. She also doesn't seem to realize (Or perhaps is in deliberate denial) that she does indeed share some of the blame for her clan being massacred. If it weren't for her hand in things, the betrayal and all that followed it would never have happened, and she failed to take into account how bloodthirsty and merciless Hakon was before suggesting that the Captain ally with him; While the Captain could be more or less trusted to not harm the gargoyles (He had no personal animosity towards them, and had in fact been an advocate on their behalf to the Princess), the same definitely couldn't be said of Hakon. Demona should have realized that.

The actor that gave Star Trek the Federation ambassador in Star Trek V, Chancellor Gorkon in Star Trek VI, and Gul Madred in a TNG 2-parter... he turns up as the archmage with the stolen Phoenix Gate. Paul Winfield (Captain Terrell, Star Trek II) recurs as Hudson's friend Jeffrey. "Uhura" was voicing a relative of Elisa's. I think if the show hadn't been summarily dispatched by Disney's 65-episode attention span... You probably get Patrick Stewart, Robert Picardo, Tim Russ, Colm Meaney.... This show was heavy on Star Trek connection.

Demona is such a tragic character. She was left behind for 1000 years thinking she would never see the love of her life again. Yes, it was partly her fault, but it is understandably made her hard and bitter. Then by the time the spell is broken, she's no longer compatible. She also believed for 1000 years that her only egg with Goliath was destroyed.

It always puzzled me why the Kingdom Hearts never did anything with this world but after binge watching the whole series it safe to say it the Gargoyles was not a kid friendly show at all but still it would've been cool to see Sora as a Gargoyle.

This comment section is definitely passing the vibe check. Amazing analysis on all fronts! But we are missing Elisa Maza appreciation. True loyalty at its finest. Tackling a gargoyle to defend someone you hardly know yet you strongly believe in. She represents the true human kindness in this situation. The way Salli Richardson-Whitfield performed her lines was incredible. "because if you do, you're the same as Demona". Chefs kiss.😍

Most animation series have a hard time replicating the quality of story telling from these 90s shows. (Classic Justice league and Batman The Animated Series is still the best classics of my generation)

Something I really love about this show is how it deals with the nature of good and evil. It shows that even the bravest of Gargoyles and humans can step towards the dark and never return. But also how they can come back. Surprisingly, Xanatos managed to come back while Demona stayed in the dark.

Goliath lost Demonas love after this. If there us a reboot or some what continued season after the Clan was welcomed with open arms in New York he'll love Elisa (if it can work)

@shogun harlem only to show her past self the future that awaits her clan. She lived for centuries with her piece and while Goliath had his away for years while in stone sleep. But her love is gone for good cause she has hatred and even if Angela wants her to be good she needs to let go of her evil to be forgiven from the rest of the clan, but she is either too far gone to be saved if she wanted to reform

Man I miss gargoyles, I still love the show after all these years. I wish they'd bring it back because shows these days aren't the same.

Demona was killer gargoyles as a killer monster, that's why she murders her ex-husband and includes elisa who she knew is jealous of them.

Poor Goliath - he really did love Demona, or at least the gargoyle she USED to be 😢

Whether or not Demona didn't do all those things that led her to that point she would have betrayed Goliath either way. She has to much hatred and anger towards the humans. Even before the Wyvern massacre.

Gargoyles was my absolute favorite cartoon that Disney made that tackle real life issues. And I always go back and forth with Demona. Now, yes. I am not saying she is 100% percent wrong for yes, what people did to her clan 1,000 years ago is totally inexcusable behavior. And yes, I completely understand her frustration with them. But, no one forced Demona to do anything for 1,000 years Goliath and his clan were asleep. She was on her own. She made mistakes, she made choices that endangered, harmed, or even killed a life or lives. But she isn’t helpless either. She has a conscience of right and wrong. The problem is she refuses to accept that all of her choices in life started with her. Demona even created the very same “Hunter” that based from one generation to the next. She lead Macbeth and his kingdom to ruins, she stole the D.N.A. Of her previous clan to make her own. Used a spell that turns all the humans in New York to stone at night and while at night she extended the same punishment her clan went through 1,000 years ago by smashing them to pieces. And she had the chance, when as she claims “didn’t trust the Captain of the Gargoyles” to keep them safe, did NOT tell anyone and chose to hide and save herself. There WAS an ounce of goodness in her. It happened when Angelia, her and Goliath’s biological daughter, had her life threatened by Thailog (which is Goliath’s name spelled backwards and clone). Demona sadly is her OWN WORST enemy and I don’t think anyone not even Angelia can help her see that.

Despite her villain status, I've always absolutely adored how Demona was written. She's an entirely sympathetic character, but the show very clearly paints her actions as horrendous and misguided, not as someone to be praised or cheered on, but as someone for whom your heart aches for. She's a character lost in all her hatred and misery and there's a part of you deep down that wishes she could let go and heal. But there are people who refuse to change, and she's one of them. It also emphasizes the moments where she acts selflessly. The episode where she finds out that Angela is her daughter and fights Thailog to her presumed death really shows that despite all the atrocities she commits, there's still love in her heart.

@@darkclawgreatonenas See that was weird to me, I don’t know why Goliath and Angela thought she died when only MacBeth can kill her (and vice versa). Goliath should have told Angela she’d see her again.

I am surprised Demona doesn’t frame Goliath just to take control of his clan

She was such a great character, why they burdened her to be the villain is a shame. I still hope she finds her way into the light and gets her happy ever after.

God this show was incredible. Writing, voice acting, animation, drama… I definitely need to go back and watch this show again, that was some high-quality TV as a kid.

One of the greatest 90's cartoons ever. And that's saying a lot for Disney these days.

I actually started watching the series when Toon Disney when in its heyday! And I thought it was so cool, that they cast alot of "Star Trek" veterans do various roles, the nods to Shakespeare, Camelot, and various types of mythology, and the fact that the relationship between Goliath and Elisa felt very much like "Beauty and the Beast" with a bit of twist!

I grew up with this show, I put it up there as one of the best of my childhood along Batman TAS, X-Men TAS and so on, but I just realized that Xanatos got hit in the back of the head by a huge chunk of stone and was perfectly fine. What the hell? 🤣

So don't be surprised people act certain ways towards you because you might behaving harshly towards even those who did nothing to you. Hate makes a lot of things. Too bad blind is one of them.

@@rachelgalvan6247 Let's not forget that she made pretty bad decisions that brought certain things about to have it come down on her. And all because her hatred effed her up.

Demona has been alive and alone for so many centuries that the isolation from getting close to anyone has made her cold, hate everything and everyone, mistrust with nothing left but anger. Even being with Goliath again after a millennium didn't make her happy. Even that wasn't enough for her.

Executing someone at close range with a rocket launcher? 🤔

Why couldn't Demona just see Goliath's point of view about how there's good and bad in all of us? Besides she was the one who made that very big mistake in the first place that so long ago🙄 It's just a good thing their daughter Angela was raised and brought up right about humans ever since she was one of those gargoyle eggs old Princess Katherine found😊

Demona blamed humanity for her clans massacre, but she refused to take responsibility for the part she played in it. The captain failed to stop the Vikings from killing the gargoyles, but she conspired with them as well. She's a coward who can’t take responsibility for her actions.

Man Disney had balls to air this show.

I watched this as a kid. This show is hardcore.

Let's be honest. It only takes the right introduction, and new Yorkers would be fascinated by gargoyles than fearful of them.

Never seen it in years finally came across it

I've loved this series ever since I first saw it on TV, but it never really clicked for me until now that Xanatos lusted after immortality and Demona was effectively immortal, and that's what drew him to her.

If they ever brought back Gargoyles, I hope they’d keep the graphics the same and get as many as the same voice actors. Some things are best left unchanged

As Yoda says, "Fear leads to Anger, Anger leads to Hate, Hate… leads to suffering.”

If they remake this one they better do an awesome job!

I like Goliath's words of how there's good and evil in all of us, no matter who they are. And to borrow Sirius Black's quote from Harry Potter - We all of us got light and darkness inside us. In the end, both Goliath and Sirius pointed out that we choose which path to walk. Demona chose evil. Voldemort chose evil. The Manhattan Clan and Elisa chose good. Sirius and Harry and the others chose good. So each story, be it Gargoyles, be it Harry Potter, there's lessons for freedom of choice but there's also consequences.
