Garen heals on his way running to tower, he can dish some good damage against squishies early game, silences, movement speed boosts, damage boosts, counterattack as a quinn main i can only kill a garen near the end game because 1k damage per basic attack but jesus christ the struggle to get to that point is real

The only fix he would need in my opinion is to limit the number of conqueror stacks he gets with 1 E, because right now he goes on you, Q then E and bam, 12 conqueror stacks, in around 2sec, with two presses of a button. This is honestly rtarded. I play singed and if i only apply poison, i get 2 stacks of conqueror every 3sec

BaePrime its more likely that yuumi gets banned than garen since yuumi was why it worked. Garen just acts as an unkillable tank while yuumi deals insane damage.

You can't call that a rework, it's more like a solidification of the champion skills. I would even call a minor buff. Wich is very fine since Garen is very fun to play as and not so hard to play against. It's a easy champ for new players.

Funny thing is, I carried myself out of bronze and silver just playing Garen 😂 He might not be good in pro play, but in noob ranks he is an easy solution to get out.

Garen was the second champ to come out when I started playing. He was absurd in solo games. Everything stacked. Sunfire, Warmog, Atmos Impaler etc. It was fun.

@@Exil22 I always take proplay with a grain of salt. the guys are good at PLAYING league but kinda bad at understanding it or at least have very obvious extreme bia's and unwillingness to explore past the "established" meta picks. It takes them getting stomped by something obscure multiple times before they acknowledge it like Funnel strats or Hiemer/Fidd bot Sona/Taric bot ect? .Unpopular or semipopular champs like Vi,Leona,Illaoi,Velkoz,Anivia and Zilean ect are lowkey really solid picks but proplayers basically never explore them due to the ever expanding champ pool and time constraints . so making titles like "the worst champ in League of legends" as opposed to "the worst champ in ProPlay" is kinda clickbaity imo.

@@ThingsDontAlways Not exactly true. League is a game of, "Why play A, when I could play B?" Zilean has been played mid plenty in the past, but has fallen out of meta due to meta shifts and better picks. Bjergsen in particular used to play it a lot. The problem is, why play Zilean when you play Azir? Better, more consistent damage, safer laning, engage/disengage ult, he's just a better pick in most cases. That's why pros don't pick up a lot of those unpopular, yet solid picks. There's just simply better things. Garen is only *typically* good in the lowest tiers. It takes someone who mains him 100% to barely get him to high elo and that's more off game knowledge than the champ itself. Riste is an insanely good macro player. Guarantee if he played meta, he would be a lot higher in rank. Garen is just simply worse than so many other champs, in pro and casual.

Well he’s “playable” if your okay with giving up pressure in lane for the entire laning phase assuming your opponent makes no mistakes and accept the fact that you will always be under csed unless you’re far ahead and if you accept the fact that in a perfect world literally every other champion beats garen if both players are playing at the most advanced level of league.

@@rain407 As Ian mentioned, the only time when Garen was played in tournaments is at year 0 when the game was still very new and there was still no lane meta like adr+support bot, bruiser top, mid, jungle, etc. and Garen was still very very very strong. You should just really finish the video already, there's a twist in the end

QuakerOats Nothing wrong with having a champion that’s unplayable in competitive. Garen, due is his simple kit and tanky nature, is many people’s first champ to the game. I believe there should be “simple, brainless, but fun” champions in LoL, compared to the recent wave of overloaded designs where every champ has 2 passives, 4 dashes, with abilities that read longer than their bio.

That's just freaking awesome. Garen is one of my favorite picks in the top lane. I find it crazy how just before you finished the video that somebody picked him AND WON of all things. Couldn't have been better timing.

The fact we have to go back a decade to see CLG’s last international victory is even more sad than garen’s 3 picks since LCS started. At least garen got to play at Worlds this year.

I live how literally days after this was posted garen/yuumi lanes started to dominate Pro play. I also love how garen/yuumi combo is even mentioned in one of the reddit posts up in screen (@4:09 if anyone missed it). Turns out that first garen win at the end of the video was just the first of many

Csaszarcsaba1 the thing with garen player is that if they get outrade they just wait undertower for passive and then kill you because he’s full hp and you didnt regen as fast

@@NoName-dj4ok darius isn't that hard of a matchup for Garen at low elo tbh. it's like how jax sucks for garen in high elo but in gold the garen will usually win. I think the worst champion for Garen is vayne

Exil I very much enjoyed this history lesson, even if it's already dated--just as you said at the end! Kudos.

I remember when Westrice picked Garen for Complexity Black vs Vesli’s team (can’t remember the name) in NA season 3. That was an insane game

As someone who played League at the very beginning, I can say for sure that when Garen was released, he was absolutely overpowered with some tank items and a sunfire cape for quite some time. The same was true with Tryndamere. Tryndamere could easily 1v3 people once his build was complete. It was absolutely insane. Around the time they nerfed Sunfire Cape, Garen started to fall off, and sadly he never fully recovered.

Up until this year, when we had Yuumi, a character that just stays untargetable while healing and slowing. Putting her on someone with intense durability and self sustain made it an absolutely incredible combo, as it turns out.

Love this video. You really did a bit of searching for this. Props to you Kellen.
