This webinar has been VERY informative! So helpful! I appreciate the information about some native plants that can spread aggressively and about the red columbine hybridizing, (Information I got just in time!) I planted a lot of native plants last summer and fall and I am so excited to see which plants are the most successful this year. This year, I am also smothering my lawn and trying to start some native wildflower field areas. Keep up the good work, everybody! We are pioneers and advocates that can make a difference in our communities! I hope we will inspire many of our neighbors to follow our lead!

"Real Gardens Grow Natives" by Eileen M. Stark, has been an especially helpful book for gardening with native plants in the PNW. She includes information about native habitats, bloom traits, how much space is needed, light and water requirements, soil types, native plant associates/companions, how to propagate, related native species and what non-native each plant is a good substitute for. There is a section for with lists for plants for acidic soil, plants for erosion control, plants for heavy soil, plants for hedgerows, plants for high drought tolerance, plants for rock gardens, plants for wetlands and plants that are unattractive to deer. It has become my native plant "bible" more than Krukeberg's book, simply because it is SO accessible! I REALLY recommend it.

Why do nurseries sell problem noxious weed plants? Why is it hard to find bags of soil made with peat moss?

I noticed it said you were focussing center WA, Would Seattle area be the same plants? West and east of the Cascades is a very different environments, weather wise. I have sandy, shady yard that can’t seem to grow grass. I would like to add some hearty easy to care for pretty plants.

Yes, these plants work in Seattle. These plants all grow west of the cascades.
