Gardening Unplugged are free classes presented by JLBG/PDN staff during the Garden and Nursery Open House days. Plant Delights Nursery is an award-winning nursery in Raleigh, NC near Garner. We specialize in rare, and unusual perennials and we strive to carry a wide selection of exotic plants, cold hardy tropical plants, and native plants. Many of our best perennials are available nowhere else in the US as they represent rare plants collected by Plant Delights founder Tony Avent during his more than 60 plant hunting expeditions to places like China, Crete, Taiwan, South Africa and Argentina or distributed by some of the many specialty plant organizations of which Plant Delights is a member.

Juniper Level Botanic Garden was founded in 1986 by Tony Avent to promote and preserve botanic diversity by bridging the gap between botany and horticulture through plant study, identification, educational outreach, global plant exploration. JLBG is home to over 28,000 taxa spread over 28 acres of beautiful grounds.

It was great until the a)view of the plants was non-existent, and b) your drunk uncle took over holding the camera…I love Tony’s vast knowledge, and have been a PDN customer for years.

30year planted pin oak tree, nothing planted under it. i would like to put a few hostas, irises, and lilies underneath. daughter says planting under now, will kill the tree.

The roots close to the trunk are called buttress roots, their main function is support. Planting among those roots will not affect the tree as long as they are not damaged.

I struggle with seeing things as patronizing as well. Consider that this class might be geared toward beginners who don't know as much as you do

Maybe this is a beginner class. Millions of new gardeners since the pandemic and I myself am one and I find Tony to be very knowledgeable and pleasant to listen to. He is far from patronizing...Maybe this channel is not for you....
