Part II - I work in a art gallery (not so actively now that I'm on sick leave) and in one exhibit we had a local artist (Rita Gaspar I think is her name, wonderful person all around) had a space where we hung up sheets of handmade paper with lots of stains, scraps of paint and unknowned bloobs. At first I didn't think much of it (I'm not the biggest modern art fan) until she explained to me what it was: she developed a technique where each sheet was a transfer "paint" from a table top that once belonged to different places like old factories, old homes, etc. The paper captured the energy and movement of everything done at that table. Can you imagine? Years of hard work in different types of jobs, many happy meals or afternoon craft sessions held at that table, all the love literally poured into it. I was mesmerized with the idea and started to view it as a time capsule containing years of experiences in a single long sheet of paper 😊 You're not messing a perfect coat of white paint, you are creating an identity for that table 😍 - that already had many years of experience from being a door 😆 would be hired on the spot, for sure 🤣 Now I miss going to work 😔 I saw a lot of beauty there, and helped make everything come together for the public to be able to see it too 🥰
Please Lindsay you have so many subscribers that would love to receive a card from you!😂 Hilarious SatChat; can’t wait to hear Cinnamon tmrw. Enjoy your outdoor painting and have a relaxing weekend! Keep on getting those 8 hrs of sleep; it looks good on you! 😂🎉💜🖖🏾✨

What a coincidence that you mention magnesium! Just yesterday I was talking with my cousin, and she told me that her doctor prescribed magnesium as part of her treatment for neuropathy. After noticing that she was sleeping through the night (she suffers from insomnia), she talked to her doctor, and he told her that magnesium is excellent for helping to fall asleep because it regulates neurotransmitters, helps melatonin production, aids with muscle relaxation, reduces stress and anxiety, and on top of everything it has anti-Inflammatory properties! Sounds too good to be true, but that was what her doctor said. I wrote it down to talk to my doctor about it cause I too suffer from insomnia, fibromyalgia and I have a panic disorder. Maybe this will improve my life!

Chelated magnesium is the real deal for sleep and so much else! I've been a magnesium nerd for over a decade now. If you really want to level up your magnesium game, go topical. It's absorbed through the skin better than through the digestive system (plus there are no #2 consequences, if you catch my drift). Sprays of "magnesium oil" are available at retail, but I make my own topical magnesium spray with magnesium bath flakes and vodka. If I slack off on the spray for too long, my hair starts to fall out, my teeth clench, my muscles spasm, and my sleep quality falls off a cliff. I'll never again be without it.
Thank you to the heads up regarding upcoming subject matter. Mental Health should NOT ever be controversial. That’s exactly the problem. 😉
@thefrugalcrafter

Maybe not controversial, but it might be something people are not in a place to want to hear.
People really appreciate getting quality mail, especially with the price of stamps. Sending a card is a great way to put a smile on someone's face when they open their mailbox. I'm not going to let the price of stamps influence my card sending. Yes, the price of a stamp is much higher than I like, but I'm willing to cut back on some drive-thru coffees to buy a few more stamps.

Hullo Lindsay, it is always a joy to watch SatChat! Glad you’re feeling better and I am looking forward to your next series of videos. I have purchased precious paper and bargain paper. I do save the precious paper for commission work or presents. I spent a lot of time working on bargain paper when I was younger. Now I only work on the better papers knowing that I won’t be disappointed in my surface! I once purchased 74 sheets of Arches paper at a garage sale, the lady selling it said her husband was angry because it went “bad” now you know how expensive those 22 x 30“ sheets are, correct? I paid $.50 a sheet that’s a real bargain even if the sizing is bad. After I got it home I tried it out and only on the first 25 sheets half of the page paint did not flow correctly so I cut them down and used them for the nephews and nieces! I even used some for gouache as it was not as picky as watercolor. Thanks for sharing all of your fun stuff good luck on your painting adventure.

To protect our dining room table that we use everyday, I put down a cheap vinyl tablecloth and then a washable cloth one over that. The downside is that the fuzzy felt-like underside of the vinyl tablecloth has begun sticking to parts of the table...it needs to be refinished anyway. But it is a solid cherry so we want to protect it. Otherwise, you can always order a table pad that will keep it protected from heat & spills.

Lindsay, you are not alone! I used to make a lot of things with just paper, paint and thread ... until, one fine day, I discovered the crafting industry. Then it became all about stuff! - I had a German subscription box for YEARS and made unboxing videos and lots of cards and presents with the contents but I just could not keep up and now I have a whole long shelf full of 12 x 12 papers. I also fell into the trap of the gorgeous American brands that come out with stuff each month! - Luckily, I was able to restrain myself at some point - mainly because it is very expensive to buy stuff from the US. Now I am still looking at all the products but I only buying one or two items for Christmas and Easter when I make a lot of cards that are all similar for friends and family. Generally, I still tend to make my bespoke cards with my own designs and plot them, sometimes paint them in watercolours, make my own stencils and so on. I find that the premade stuff is usually not the right fit for my taste and for the people (occasionally) order from me.

I loved last week's podcast, and I spent this week doing a final purge of all my stamp sets and dies and created a catalog of my favs. I'm on a no buy art supplies and realized how I was being tempted to buy almost everytime I was on my phone either by pop up ads or visiting my favorite channels or even posting to my fav art group where we share what we're working on this week. Someone is always sharing their favorite new thing. I realized the self soothing and the fantasy belief that a thing would make me better but I think I've conked that monster on the head. I also agree that my collage mixed media cards take me down a rabbit hole of chaos on my art table, but I love it so much more than my traditional stamped and die cards and yes I make more than I need but I donate them when I get excess. It is going to be about 98 today and so it is no longer healthy to try plein air here in Central Florida until about October. AC is our way of life now just trying to keep the house at around 80. Love these little chats that make me think about things I sometimes put aside and know that others are thinking about it too. Have a wonderful week.

I certainly empathize about stamp charges. Recently my husband was going to the chemist, which is next to the Post Office, so I asked him to get some stamps for me, a couple of books of eight. No problem, except he hadn't bought stamps for years and when he noticed the charge as he put the receipt away, he returned to the counter and queried it, he assumed it was a mistake, only to discover it was correct. He was embarrassed, but worse, horrified at the cost. We laughed about it, but our postal charges seem to have rocketed over the last few years, and now we pay by size too, there must be quite a few of us getting a nasty shock when we have to pay up! Thanks for the chat, good to have you back.

It is so good to see you in a better frame of mind! I had to laugh at the part where you talked about getting one thing causes you to "need" something else. Oh my stars I have one of those stories. There was a new home going up in our neighborhood shortly after I bought my home. My husband found a large circular piece of wood and asked the contractor if he could have it...yes he could. He dreamed of a giant water wheel in a pond with coy....you can imagine. That free piece of wood probably cost us about $8K. But we did have a very nice fish pond. He never did use that free piece of wood. My problem? I can't pass up a good deal on alcohol markers. I have probably close to ...this is embarrassing...500(?). I am swatching them right now to see all the redundant colors I can donate. But, you know having a whole set to travel with is good too....I don't know...I need to get rid of some! Part of the fun of buying art stuff is the curiosity factor and getting to play and being inspired, but it’s also the thrill of having a package coming, particularly if you’re an obsessive tracker like me! It reminds me of the song sung by little Ron Howard in The Music Man about the excitement of seeing the delivery guy coming and it might be something special, just for me! One way I curb my impulses is to put things on my Amazon wishlist and watch for a price drop. Some stuff never gets ordered and sometimes I’m just fooling myself into delaying a purchase, but it’s easier to justify purchases if I’ve waited and the price drops. Nothing like a little self delusion!

I never thought of all those stamp and die sets as self soothing, but think that’s exactly what I was doing. Or the making myself better. I felt I had to have all that stuff so my cards would be perfect. Were they, was I? No. I crafted less the more I bought. I haven’t bought any craft supplies except a sticky mat to use in my stamp press since last year. I haven’t crafted since then either, but that’s for another reason. What a great video from two of my favorite art teachers. And some eye opening info about AI, Amazon. Temu (which I refuse to buy from, btw). THANKS so much for working so hard for those of us wanting to learn to paint. God bless you both.

Timely discussion. I have been having to downsize and rearrange my bedroom and office/"art" studio. I have enough good watercolor paper to last me beyond my life expectancy. I am 83 and I think an artistic grandchild, or maybe, if I should be so lucky as to have any (7 children, 15 grands, closest wedding maybe in a year after the PhD) will be able to create wonderful art someday on that paper. I don't even know when or why I bought half of it! It's here, out in the open, ready for me to do something with it, and now I actually have the space. So, go me.

Good to see Lindsay's back! Sleep and a few days of being back home can work wonders on one's spirits. (Btw, 10 mgs of Melatonin also work wonders on sleep. It also cuts down migraines by nearly 75%.) QUESTION: where did you find that lovely Eiffel Tower sketchbook? Anyway, glad you've hit the ground running again and with a smile! :)

Ok, I feel called out... I have so many watercolors and then recently got into painting etegami, which are casual sumi postcards with a little message, meant to be actually mailed as cards. So if you have ink, watercolor, and paper to cut down you need nothing, if you want to make cards that are less of a production! But of course I ordered some Gansai Tambai paints, which literally are not as good as the *lightfast* watercolors I already have. They've been sitting here unopened and me wondering whether I ought to send them back. Of course I also bought some special Japanese postcards too, which are the right kind of thing to use Gansai on. And yes, I am 100% guilty of buying things to regulate my emotions. I did buy a roll of stamps a while back, because I had an amazing vintage stamp roll holder from childhood that looks like an old letterbox. But yeah, the only choice you get is the flag. Wish they had at least a few others! It doesn't save you any money so unless you have a cute stamp holder you wanted to use like me, just keep getting the pretty designs :)

Probably nothing is. I think a lot if it is getting stressed out about not sleeping well and it makes you not sleep well. Take care and rest is almost as good as sleep I think.
Order seatbelt covers for your back straps. They Velcro around. Hope you had fun painting. It’s too hot for me to paint outside. Sunday it’s supposed to be 102* then add Florida humidity and it’s miserable. The excessive heat triggers my migraines. It’s not usually this hot this early so I’m painting from photos. It’s not the same.

Guilty - never sell a thing, but I do give a lot of cards away (family love them - my sister and I make them and mail a stash to them). We have fun, they are appreciative and they fill a purpose. I think I might make some to send to a couple groups who collect them and distribute them to those in need - nursing homes, soldiers etc I so want to pull the trigger on the wet strength as well and I just can't. I know it's great for gel plating, I hardly ever do so, yet the want monster is active in my brain. I saw it went up to $100 nope.

Part I - I'm glad you're feeling better now 😊 a good night sleep can do wonders even on these busiest brains of ours that never stop. Magnesium helps with muscular relaxation and blood flow to the extremities, that's why people with muscle tension or inflammation, cramps and other muscle pains take Magnesium supplements. Depending on what's causing the tension/pain it won't help or Magnesium deficiency in the body can cause other problems too, so better check with your doctor 😉 My chronic back pain gives me all kinds of problems that although looking very similar to these, Magnesium doesn't even scratch the cause of them to help me 😆 Feeling drained can be a lack of vitamin D too, specially if you live in a state that gets hard winters your doctor can see if you need to supplement it and help you with a little boost - and less joint pains too! I know too much after being a guinea pig for medications 😆

Part III - We ADHD people should carry a trigger warning sign at all times 🤣 We are passionate people and get deep, I mean REAL DEEP, in the most mundane of subjects. I will get into a philosophical dissertation even if the first topic of our chat was ink cartridges, for example 🤣 Some people find that really amusing and like to listen and interact knowing the conversation could lead into multiple topics, others get annoyed and tell us we are skipping or talking too much. I find myself to be a very fascinating subject to be talked to, thank you very much 🤣 I came to peace with the fact that I talk, share and disclose too much information. A t-shirt with "embodiment of trigger warning" is totally called for, or "beware: I will talk you silly and enjoy every minute of it" 🤣🤣 Can I interest you in a "ADHD creative peak" as I'm watching your video and having to divide commentary in multiple posts? 😆🥰

you say trigger warning for tomorrow’s podcast bc it’s about mental illness…but trigger in what way ? Are you guys gonna be speaking about mental illness in a negative way ? Or do you think that just the subject itself could be triggering..? Because I have a mental illness and I do watch videos about mental illness because I find it interesting..but I want to be warned in case you are going to say negative stuff about us people that have gone down the rabbit hole a few times, so I won’t watch it at all ! Because ( TW) I have overdosed due negative comments in the past
@thefrugalcrafter
19 күн бұрын
Oh gosh no! The only reason for the TW is the topic. It is a very empathetic conversation with a friend who recently had a public mental health episode. I would never knowingly speak in a mean or uncaring way about that topic. I think some people might be struggling and wish not to hear about it in their safe art space. I don't know what might bother someone but I figure just disclosing the topic can let people decide. It is a positive episode though. I hope that helps:)
