OMG, No! First off, just go buy a weed eater. 2nd, I work with right angle grinders, they are not meant to be used like that without a safety guard. The wire used is going to break off and be launched into your leg. Why do you think weed eaters used nylon string in the first place? You're likely going to end up spending a lot in medical treatment cancelling out any 'savings' in not buying a weed eater.

There is a reason trimmer wire is plastic. As it wears and stresses it will break apart. Plastic is pretty flexable actually. Now think about if you bend a wire 100 times. You can break it. Now think about after this wire fatigues and splinters off at 10000 rpm. That can stick in your leg or worse like a metal dart. Plus metal has a much higher weight so it has more energy when it breaks off flying farther than plastic string. The plastic slows prettys fast as it it light vs its air resistance. Think of a foam nerf dart. Fast at first but slowes quickly vs a bullet. Anyway tired this with speaker wire when i was about 12 to do the yard chores. Figured saved myself from replacing that pesky weed wacker wire. LOL. Nice till little chards of copper stand stuck into my leg. I consider that a cheap, " but painfull" one of many life lessons. LOL. JZ said it best "It's the hard knock life for us"

While it's an unusual way to use an angel grinder, and obviously effective, it's also incredibly un-safe. There is a reason for the gaurds that they come with. And normal trimmers use a semi soft plastic in case parts break off while in use. Starting it with a bare hand could result in a loss of a finger. Buy a real one and save yourself the potential trip to a hospital.

I did like the twit who used speaker wire but used high-tensile clothesline core instead having half a clue, downside it takes a lot of cutting with a kacksaw but benefit, it lasted a full day. That's in my little Ryobi linecutter, at its best trimming a beech hedge. Obvs never letting any part of self or valued other humans/pets stray within the disc of doom

That angle grinder/ Whipper snipper is a monster. I'm surprised it wasn't heaving chunks out of the concrete. Anyway, if you want neat edges, you need to turn that thing 90 degrees and cut down between the concrete edge and the grass. When you do it that way, it looks sensational and the finish is professional and uniform.

Look: watching the video alone should have carried a Government Safety warning. If you look at the comments, there are far too many other comments here that call this stupid, reckless and just plain idiotic. When there are bespoke, ready-made machines that will do this job, for far less effort, and relatively cheap outlay - why the heck go to these extremes and risk it anyway?! The machine is home-made, and I bet you no amount of home or personal insurance would cover you in case of injury, accident or straightforward mishap. Jeesh....! Rocket science it definitely ain't!

Yes, many tools are very dangerous, particularly if mis-used, or handled incorrectly. All you need to do safely is to follow the manufacturer's instructions. However, as I said, I doubt this applies to a botched-together, home-made tool comprising of other botched-together and adapted implements. Like I said, just you try claiming on personal health or home insurance for anything that goes wrong with this no-guarantee, cobbled-together piece of bastardized equipment. They'll laugh in your face. Always presuming you still have one. ;)
