Gotta appreciate the men and women who handle our garbage

When you work on them , it takes you 2 weeks and never smile them again . Your nose and sense of smiling will get use to it . I work for BFI for 10 years and enjoyed it . Good pay and benefits , good and friendly people to work with . I own my trash business now and love it .

I was intrigued since the 80s when I was still crapping myself to sleep.

The first garbage truck (the Amrep HX-450-ASL) looked half empty. I might have survived a ride in the back of that ! The second garbage truck (New Way Viper Rear Loader) had a few large "body bags" tumble out at the last moment. Perhaps these passengers were not so lucky. Cheers for posting.

Damn CCTV gets everywhere. Spoils the fun, if you have to explain everything to the cops.

The worst ones were the ones that picked up school dumpsters, usually about 5 gallons of curdled milk came out with it.

I work for waste management and trust me... It smells horrible especially on a humid day.

This Weighing Machine Operator is pretty psyched to see so much interest in how we do what we do to get rid of the ugly side of consumerism. It does stink but most of us who work in this industry sees cash and it smells like money to us. LOL Great video!

My 30month-old baby loves this video.

I wish ours were that free to pull up on like that. We have to wait for the tractors to push it out the way first

Work sanitation for a local city, would love to have this kind of landfill setup, so much less stressful.

I loved it when I used to be able to go to the dump and take anything I want. That was the 80s now no one will let you even in a dump. I used to find rolls of copper wire, bag of pennies, aluminum cans. Etc. Could have made a living just doing that.

I remember back around 2010. Went to Dump, I was able to take away with me. 2 Power Line cables nearly full huge rolls of it. Had help from the bulldozer driver push it onto my trailer i had. I took it all to the scrap yard. was around 1,400 lbs of what scrap yard called Dirty Copper wiring. was happy that day. Was close to $800 profit there.

Because you can turn around and sue the dump for millions if anything bad happens to you (female).

Used to love the dump when we could have a dig around before everyone became officious as fuck.

That's only if the bed has a hole in the box. Most the time you see maggots I if you have to get inside the box. They do collect mud. If there are dairys the crap gets all over. And we do clean them or spray the off. I at least try to keep it as clean as I can so they don't have to work around all that. It does get bad is a hydraulic line or ram breaks the oil gets everywhere.

My dad used to work on these type of trucks and they were washed first in a sanitizer liquid and then brought in to be worked on.

I had to read that like 5 times to understand it. Yes, perhaps there is a crusher or a sawmill under it, it doesn't mean you can't do it, it just means you probably shouldn't.

It's snowing hard outside with blizzard warnings across the Midwest; but can you guess who had to work today? Yeah, they were out working early this morning just like they always are.

so what happens to all of this? Does any of it get sorted or recycled? Or just hauled to a dump site? Or put on a barge and dumped at sea like NYC does?

Here in Bridgeport Pa. They take it too some plant that has some type of energy sourced heat ..don't ask me how but they vaporize all the garbage into this air. I don't know how it's done elsewhere

Short Mountain landfill is where this garbage goes.

My older brother lives in Germany. Pretty sure he said everything there gets incinerated with these super incinerators that generate electricity.

That is correct. They are called Waste to Energy Facilities and we have several in the US under a company called Covanta among others. The boilers burn the waste and the steam generated from the combustion powers a turbine that creates electrical current. It's pretty cool but has some cons.

Muy interesante, pero ya en el siglo 21 debemos ser capaces de hacer algo diferente y provechoso con los desperdicios, debemos reciclar en todos los paises y lo que no es reciclable pues buscarle un buen camino, la mejor solucion, pero no botarlo en cualquier lugar como hacemos en muchos lugares donde covertimos esos lugares en lindas casas para vectores como cucarachas, ratones, etc.

THEY HAVE THE SPRAYER FOR THE ODOR IN ORDER NOT TO SMELL BAD...

Our town used to have a trash to energy plant that use the steam from the trash burning to supply a large chemical plant next to it. Now they ship the garbage out by truck to somewhere else. I know some on that trash they load into those trucks makes it way back on the roads here in town from not cleaning the trash sticking out of the doors on the trucks. We the taxpayers then pay to have the Public Works Dept clean it up.

I'm looking at a garbage truck right now at the age of 38 years old, and I always wondered how this works

I saw once，a garbage dumper fell into the garbage because the driver back off more than necessary to unload! There is still no safety guard to guide the driver.

can you imagine how long some of that garbage has been sitting in the pit. thanks to my local sanitation dept workers, my hats off to you. if the rest of my neighborhood is HALF as disgusting as my neighbors in my apartment complex, they've got their work cut out for them.

Dam I love being a trash man for real, the kids love us there moms too some days it sucks like if you make a mistake and dump trash behind the blade. But overall it is a great occupation but definitely not for everyone I’ve seen grown man cry begging to go home.
