I don't really know anything about waste disposal so ignore my ignorance, is it a common thing for garbage to be missed and if it is missed are you only notified if people call in about it. Whenever i forget to put my cans out i always just deal with it till next week.

It depends on the company and how much you pay. If you call and request a pickup that was missed, some will come back around. Also, sometimes it’s the driver that misses the stop.
