What makes it funnier is that Garak's joke was actually a reference to the writers original plans for the episode which was to be a single episode. But when they realized the potential they had, the writers expanded the story into a 2 parter and then transformed their previous solution (the secret data would force Tain to let Garak go) into a joke.

And it looks at both sides of the people in that kind of scenario. Cisco was even a perfect choice as the captain because of his backstory involving the Borg. Then you had a new war, against a threat that made everybody from the Federation to the Klingons to the ROMULANS nervous. The problem is new trek seems to be stuck trying to find a new war to fight. And that’s if they are not borrowing the darker theme mean of the reboot movies. Which for as good as they were as movies they couldn’t really get the goofy fun that old Star Trek could get into.

Garak and Bashir!! Great chemistry. I always thought it was a missed opportunity to explore the irony of these two character Archs. Garak the amoral spy becomes a selfless freedom fighter, while Julian the morally upright doctor becomes compromised and works for section 31 doing their dirty work. It's a shame that these two didn't have a episode or two devoted to that aspect. The producers chose to have Miles and Julian develop a close bond and the Bashir Garak relationship to wither. When Julian was undercover for section 31, and then trying to deceive Sloan, who better than Garak to assist him with that task.

Well, you see... investors hate science fiction. They just despise it with a passion. So when you want to pitch a science fiction series but you know it'd never get funding, what you do is you throw in some references, change the alien race to something people know, tack on the Star Trek brand name, and suddenly you're good. Because people know Star Trek, so it's way easier to sell. It doesn't matter if it makes no sense or doesn't fit with the existing continuity or themes of the original because it's Star Trek, and Star Trek fans are super hungry for anything they can grab with that specific brand name attached to it.

Like that one squirrel in my garden when I was a kid. Before it became a corpse it was probably adorable and bright. But after his demise, he'd been laying in a puddle for a week or so. Not so adorable, I'll tell you that!

Yeah. I tried with that second season of Picard. Had a pretty good set-up. Then quickly descended into all women are gay and awesome; all men are goofs. Before disappearing up its own backside due to the number of plot contrivances required to contain such a massive story. Think I lasted five or six episodes before tapping out. Humour was awful throughout.

Eh, my problem with the 2nd season was the re-use of the Mirror Universe so quickly. Like yes, we get it, you invented a world where every human is a Space Nazi who should be summarily executed by every other sentient race as a matter of bare self defense. You don't need to keep going back there!

This is what you get when the fans didn't support Star Trek Enterprise. "Oh, I don't like prequels, 'cuz the ship doesn't look like the ship from that scene in Star Trek The Motion Picture!" "Oh, really? Then get ready to have Enterprise cancelled at year four, followed by a near-complete of the franchise by "hack" movie producers, who prefer a more edgy franchise. Durh!"

I always thought the ship interior in Enterprise was a pretty good briding-the-gap look between our current spacecrafts and TOS ships.

Enterprise was simply boring and too americanized. Everyone on the crew felt like an American even if they weren't and I'm not watching another Apollo-type space-catastrophe like any other sci-fi movie around that time. Enterprise is basically Star Trek meets American Pie - fucking yuck.

It's also similar to a word for male sexual organ in some Slavic languages which might be a more appropriate description of that idiot. Or better yet, let's take both meanings to find out what his problem is
