That first shield blocked access to the actual release latch but the release line hanging down is still accessible to a coat hanger, with the handle at the end to catch the coat hanger.

In SF, the thieves have now started drilling a hole right through the garage door to get at the release. Best to ZIP tie the release - and don’t have any valuables in the garage!

or just add a $3.00 2 by 4 across the top and your done. We've done it on several garage doors and you can't get a coat hanger in it. with your other product we were able to still use a coat hanger with a slight bend and curve in it to pull the handle end out and open the garage door. also you can use a zip tip through the whole. prevents the the if from being able to apply down ward force but instead bend the hangar. also still the door still can be released incase of a emergency. just give it it good downward pull and it will snap the zip tie.

I built something similar but I made it to draw the top of the door tight against the seal when it closes. You can't get a wire in the gap, because there isn't any. And if you could, the metal prevents any wire from getting past it.

$10.99 plus $7 shipping on EBAY ... or... get a 30 cent 1/8" x 6" bolt you then bend in a vise to a "U" shape and put it thru the spring holes and put a butterfly nut on.

@@bmead144 Have no idea what I found a yr ago but this came up in a quick search just now... 30$ www.ebay.com/itm/NIP-Garage-Door-Armor-Black-Shield-Kit/264774997631?hash=item3da5d1d67f:g:8fkAAOSwjgFe89gG I'd suggest a cheap u-bolt thru the holes that the spring is in on the lever the handle pulls... put wing nuts on the ends so when you need to use the handle you just screw them off and take the u-bolt out... prolly like 2$ for the bolt and wing nuts.

I know this is 2 years ago, but how much is the vise you need to bend the bolt, and the table to anchor it to?

  • @tubedude54

@@CallieCEntertainment Oh wow! Callie... the vice would cost way more than the product they are trying to sell you here. Add in a workbench and you could spend 600$ easily! If you go to the 53-55 second spot you can see what is happening and what I was saying to disable the ability of the thief. Notice when he pulls on the coat hanger that he pulls the lever that releases the mechanism holding the door shut. That shiny silver thing between the lever and the top plate you see just right of the pull cords attachment point is a spring. It pulls the lever back into position so when you slide the door back it re-engages the door opener so it functions again when you fix whatever was wrong with the power unit. All you want to do is prevent the latch from being pulled down. I have the tools to make a bent bolt from a threaded rod so for me it was easy. You put this bent rod in the spring holes and put wing nuts on the ends so when you actually need to use the opener all you have to do is take the wing nuts off and pull the lever. Another thought I have is you could possible use a strong zip tie and run it thru the spring holes and tighten it up. This should prevent a coat hanger from pulling the lever down as long as it is a good quality zip tie and the coat hanger loop would just bend.

*911* People forget some may not know? They make the CORDLESS SAWSALL now, I a Union Carpenter almost threw up when they made it. The thief can break into any thing now!!! Just cut a hole in your garage door.. Heck cut a hole in the side of your house!!! Cut the whole front door out, Cut the lock off your gate... heck cut the whole gate down.!!! In the middle of open field it doesn't matter... all he needs is a extra battery which he just got from your garage. We have much bigger problems than this 5' x 1" x 4" on the top of the garage door.!!! Sorry Folk's the truth suck's.... Mark / RagenRat Show less REPLY

Unfortunately not everyone has the right setup for this. Ours is without the other hole so it won't work. We've put a big U bolt thru the garage door track and nothing's going to get that open.

overpriced for what it is. this door is damaged and bent in the center of the top section. this allows the theif to get there 2 inch gap. fix the door before you think that you need this
