Everyone focuses on getting to the cord with a coat hanger, but they neglect that the J-arm is just held to the door with a couple of cotter-pins. Anyone could just break a window, reach in with pliers, pull the cotter pin, push out the cross pin, and the J-arm is no longer attached. Then just roll the door up. I replaced my pins with bolts and lock nuts, to at least make it harder for them. Thinking about blocking off the windows near the arm as well.

I still can’t picture an emergency when I would need the release. I removed the cord and used a small zip tie through the small spring holes.

I’d like to add: if you have remote controls in your car or programmed home link buttons make sure you lock your car if it’s outside. Some home links are active even if the vehicle is off. I watched this video with a critical eye because I’m a garage door guy myself. It was good. Only thing I questioned was the compatibility of the electric side lock with trolley operators. Anything is possible though with the correct upgrades. However if it’s a detached garage with that outside lock cylinder the inside electric slide lock will still be locked. Hope your hand heals quickly.

There’s a lock button on the wall button that disables the remotes and home link

@@Jakeslifetime yes but it’s unlikely homeowners who park outside on a regular basis press the lock button on their wall control while on the way into the house. I would think the lock button’s primary function would be vacation or extended time away from home or a lost remote.

I thought my door was pretty good, but I've had three bicycles stolen in three break-ins each one a different method was used.

Since there is an epidemic of people stealing car's catalytic converters, they'll start breaking into garages to do that.
