Garage Clean Out & The Inventory Doom Pile

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I'm putting my money where my mouth is & following my own tips for being a better antique & vintage booth owner. The garage was destroyed during Lucketts prep and I just let it sit that way for months. No good! It's time to do better and tackle this problem head on. This garage clean out & the inventory doom pile processing needed to happen first before I was going to to be able to move through any more of the tips from my last video. So Tip 1 is done and I can start working on listing furniture items on FB market and getting things sold from the booth (Tip 2). This the life of a vintage reseller.

Don't you love it when you find amazing things in your inventory you didn't realize you had or forgotten about? Recently went through an old storage shed and found some amazing vintage clothing pieces for my shop, it was such a fantastic feeling. You will do great with those etomology pieces. People love insects for display pieces. Thanks for the inspo as always, Amanda!

Hoards of stuff? Absolutely! My sister and I spent 3 days going through my doom pile a few months ago. It's been a game changer and felt great to get it done! My goal is always to keep my dining room table CLEAR. There have been so many weeks when it wasn't. Now with the doom pile gone, every purchase (that I don't keep) goes out into the garage on a shelf. It makes it easier to see what I have too. Great video, thanks!

Hi Amanda, hope you are well. I really enjoy your videos. It's funny I've replaced movies and tv shows with KZread content. Your channel is one of 20+ channels I enjoy watching or listening to on a regular basis. So thank you for another great video. Have you ever thought of hosting a group vintage shopping day similar to what Laura from Left Coast Revivals did? How I keep myself organized. 1. The moment I come home with a haul, I'll take things out bags, boxes. I'll hang up clothes, put new items on table for inspection. If I don't do this I'm not aloud to go shoping for inventory. 2. I will inspect what needs to be repaired and input into my inventory system (google doc) if I have time I might add a pic). To keep organized I've added Categories to my inventory system. 1st Category - furniture, flooring, vases, painting, books... 2nd Category - what event or space I want to selling it 3rd Category - design element - sometimes its organized by size, maker, by colour, by material, theme and top sellers Currently I have a McCoy pottery section (maker), blue & white (colour and top seller), brass (material), paintings (size and colour theme), prepy clothes from '20-'90 and books (colour and size)... I also use the system to manage my COG vs Sold price For time management I check my mileage - if I drive 40 miles and pick up 8 items I will ad 5 miles per item. I've started to sourse closer to where I live. My avg mileage use to be 6 miles per items, it's now down to 4. My inventory system takes 1-2 mins per item to implement into my computer. Before being organized I was spending 5-10 mins per item from extra traveling, cleaning, searching and less stress on me and my family. -I also use this as a guide what Categories I need to buy. I still pick up wacky things that sell withing 36 days -I avoid malls that give me headaches -I try to source closer to home -I also use up less space

I love this video so much! I can't even with the bugs though! 😂😂 Several KZreadrs I follow have been de-hoarding. It must be in the air. 😂😂 Anyway, I love watching the process of decluttering and organizing. I had to downsize my hoard before moving from California to Tennessee late 2021 and I've stayed decluttered here. P.S. I won't be letting my husband see the last part of this video about "he didn't sign up for this.." because I'm like, oh yes he (my husband) did! If he's w me, he signed up! 🤷‍♀️🤭🤣😁😂😂

I always enjoy your content and you have motivated me to get rid of my doom pile/storage building. My daughter and I were doing pop-up markets before covid. Everything went into storage and stayed there…until now. I went and rented a booth at an antique/design/consignment store. We’ve only been there a week and can’t believe how well it’s going. Thanks for the inspiration!

I watched this vid 4 months ago and I’m back to watch again. I now have a storage space and inventory in the perimeter of my garage so that my car will still squeeze in. I’ve gone from two booths in different locations in the same town to one booth. My struggle is organizing my smalls and… I feel like there is nothing that doesn’t need attention! I’ve started sorting items seasonally but there is so much without a season🤪. Also, items won in auction lots that will never go to a booth. Donate or garage sale maybe? Anyway, I enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for the inspiration!

In our old house I had a 2 car garage and a 2000+ square foot basement so hoarding was easy. Lots of room to squirrel stuff away. And I had 3 booths to stock, so I could justify all my 'collections'... sort of. What I couldn't justify I could hide! 😂 I had a lot of "I forgot I had that!" and "so THAT'S where that was!" moments while we were packing and sorting to move. I sold a TON, gave away a bunch more, and at the end, completely filled two 20-foot roll-offs. It was so heartbreaking seeing some of that go, but totally freeing at the same time. Now that I'm here in VA it's really hard to not buy when I see a great deal. It's ingrained! I have to just keep reminding myself that I don't have the space or the booths anymore. And stay away from thrift stores, auctions, estate sales, and any other place where there is temptation! I'm settling with picking on a micro scale now through my local Buy Nothing group. Lol!

I literally just broke a hammer last week (took a swing and the head tilted crooked as the handle snapped). For a split second I thought "Ok, time to add 'hammer' to next trip to town list", then immediately after that I was like, "No. I'll organize for half an hour and find one somewhere in here." Well, fifteen minutes later I found three of them, and the underside of the workbench was clean 😆

Am getting ready to sell at my first ever postcard show out of state in October. So I have unearthed A LOT of bundles of postcards I had put here and there in my home stash in the process. One "secret" to organization: old filing cabinets!! You can get them for next to nothing, and pick the drawer sizes from large to small. I don't think I've paid over $10 for one, ever, and the best part is, if you ever get broken into, they don't shout "take me!" like a fancy $3000 toolbox does.

There must be something in the water because the doom pile has been a topic of convo among fellow resellers here in Maine & ive been asking everyone. Strangers in estate sale lines. Do you keep inventory? And no one seems too. Keeping an inventory really helps me keep things in check. Because ill see i spent like $500 on inventory that month but booth sales are down and im at like $600 in sales in the same month. Gasp not making money & it forces me to refresh my booth with new things and cut myself off with spending for the rest of the month. I also just had a fight with my husband over inventory. I had stuff everywhere guest bedroom, mudroom, garage and shed. The ice breaker was i was painting furniture and blocked his motorcycle in. So ive been condescending everything this summer and i feel lighter. Plus my husband does live here and didn't ask for this. Hes a trooper for the most part. This video really hit home, it was great! Thank you!

Once they are hanging, take a permanent marker and trace each tool onto the board. Now and forevermore you'll know what goes where and if its missing. And be able to find and put away all your tools. It really works.

Just during this morning’s coffee I was thinking about how much better I feel after organizing. I rented another storage room and separated my personal keep items and items for my booths. I can also get my car into the garage/shop now also. Yay! I’m in Texas and we’ve been at 104° + for 42 days with no rain so, I work in the shop from about 7:30 am to noon then deliver things to the booths. Yes, the organization helps me work through, clean, repair, etc. aaalllll of the things. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing your process and progress. I’m only about an hour away from Round Top so come on down and let’s go!

Your “finds” even looking amazing in your garage. Can’t wait to see how they look once styled in your booth! You have a great eye for seeing what can be. (great job, btw)

I love the insects! I like weird things as well! Maybe you can put a Halloween spin on selling the bug collection.

I thoroughly enjoyed your video cleaning and organizing the garage and yes I’m on that doom pile struggle bus too! My garage is enclosed into a living area and it still almost looks like yours…😳 I have a hard time getting rid of stuff too. I have a booth by the way too that never looks like yours. Your displays always look great! Thanks for the awesome video. 😊
