They don't do it to fight they do it for self improvement and better self confidence. You can apply this on street fight though but it would be better not to engage yourself in any fight if posible. :)

@@snek1597 you dont always have the choice, the choice is made for you. You fight like you train. I have 58 years in Karate im nearly 68.

Just watched this and noticed the Israeli sensei flinching every time Sensei Kagawa demonstrated on him. When I used to train with Senseis Enoeda and Ohta in Marshall Street, if you moved in bunkai, they got very annoyed and would sometimes remind you about control. Very strange to see a Dan grade shy away.

Kagawa sensei is brilliant.

KZreadに上がってる動画を見る限り型の解釈については外国人の方が日本人よりも創意工夫して積極的に型の稽古を活かそうとしているな。日本人の高名な先生には自国の武道なんだからもっと世界のみんなから見て参考になるような稽古の動画を残してほしい。正直外国人の方が向き合う姿勢は上に見える。

my eyes can only take so much. Since most of the people present here are black belts I wish Kagawa sensei showed the Ura Bunkai (hidden/more practical interpretation) instead. Maybe he doesn't know. Who knows. Please, don't give me the excuse that bunkai is something you learn on your own. It's unfair to market that you teach self-defense yet you teach something ineffective and unrealistic. My 2 cents.

Oversimplification of the kata’s complexity. Or perhaps lack of understanding. Elite competitors often have poor understanding of practical self defense.

I kove Kagawa Sensei.However these applications are boring and not practical.

Is that all you have to say Mikel.You must know by now that no one in the street is going to come with Jodan Oizuki,This is where Patrick McCarthy Sensei has developed practical applications.As I said I love Kagawa sensei and your comment shows that you are defenatly far from bushido.

Oss I have no doubts about Masao Kagawa Shihan.He is incredible.I am not criticizing him.I have an opinion that Shotokan has to produce a higher level bunkai(Iyo) which is quite possible.Kagawa Shihan Kata teaching is a amazing and would love to be taught by him.His assistance Yamaguchi Shihan is amazing to which I have met.Oss

definitely not boring if you do it at full speed. Meaning, in the movies LOLOLOL practical? No. Just. No. Not practical at all.

Being good at competition kumite and kata is not the same thing as understanding what kata means to karate. Please don't "teach" these nonsense to students, especially influential instructor like this man.

This is an absolute load of rubbish, it's not because there are kids there he knows no better full stop. People must ne naive to swallow this rot. I have studied Karate since 1966 and consider myself a beginner, maybe I need to rethink it. Again it's rubbish or he's thick thinking people are buying into it, 9th Dan, Nah its a con.
