I saw this film several times growing up, my parents being from India always praised it. But I recall when I lived in Eastern Europe several years ago getting a taxi late at night after a heavy metal concert, the driver began starting a conversation with me. He couldn't speak English but I spoke enough of the local language to be able to talk to him. He told me that he was fascinated by Indian history after watching this movie and he knew everything about Gandhi, Pandit Nehru and all of the major events that took place in the war of India's independence. That conversation made such an impression on me and I will never forget that guy.

The world would be a better place if humanity could walk the path the Mahatma showed, but we are too caught up with our greed and agenda of self-interest. In a time marred with violence and wars, the Mahatma showed the alternative way of achieving one's goal through the path of nonviolence. He could bring down to knees the empire Hitler could not bring down with his Gestapo. Unfortunately, humanity, let alone Indians, have forgotten this Great Soul.

It was actually Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose himself who was the first one to call Gandhi ji as "the father of the nation". Gandhi ji and his colleagues fought for non-violence and non-cooperation and set an example for the world to look up to. That is why he is respected more than any other freedom fighter and is also celebrated around the world for his pioneering and bold approach to attaining freedom. Netaji took to war, i.e., he indirectly supported the violence associated with it, which was not a new thing for freedom movements around the world. That's why there is not much to celebrate here. Gandhi- an interesting Story When we hear the name Gandhi the first thing which comes to our mind is the salt march, an act of non-violent civil disobedience. But who was the man behind the salt march? How did he live? Why did he act like this? The film “Gandhi” was written in 1982 by John Briley only and produced and directed by Richard Attenborough. It starts with Gandhi’s assassination, then the actual story of his live starts. The atmosphere is contemplative and informs about Gandhi’s leadership. He is depicted as a political and spiritual leader against racism and laws in South Africa and later also in India. His principles of equality and tolerance substantiate his position in India’s fight for independence. The movie also deals with his religious tolerance: It is shown that Gandhi told Jinnah that “they were brothers of the same mother India.” Jinnah didn’t support Gandhi’s idea of a tolerant India with Muslims and Hindus. Some scenes ally Indians fighting for their rights showed me that the film wasn’t only about Gandhi rather about the dream of freedom and justice all over the world. Ben Kingsely played Gandhi very authentic and all other actors seemed motivated and serious. In conclusion an interesting movie for everyone who’s interested in history.

In Canada we learned about many countries in history. The European settlements here and European history in general was the larger part of our history teachings but they taught a fair amount about other countries too. Personally I found other countries, other than Europe, much more interesting. Sadly and disgustingly though they taught us very little about our Indigenous people back when I was in school in the 70s and 80s and I don't know if that's changed. When I was 11, one of my favorite teachers was from India and I wrote my favorite and proudest report on the Taj Mahal.

Damn bro, I’ve seen you post this same exact comment multiple times on several different trailers for this movie, sometimes months apart! What’s your deal? Like you know that’s just a quote from the ppl who made the movie right? It’s not like Gandhi himself said it or anything, and we can all see it for ourselves in the trailer so why do you feel the need to post this all over the place? I’m confused by this behavior.. plz explain IF I had to render a guess, I’d say you love this movie so much that you watch it often, but for some reason you watch the trailer first to hype yourself up or something. Then every time you hear that line you’re like “oh my gosh, that is SOO PROFOUND!!! I MUST share this feeling with the whole world!”. Is that about right? Cuz I mean, we’ve all had that feeling before but it’s the dedication to post it in as many places as you have that confuses me..

The concept of father of nation itself is false concept cooked up by foreigners and their Indian stooges. Bharat (in case you never heard this name, it is India's name in Indian languages) is a nation from times immemorial. If that so, if Prime minister modi stated that she will not be forgiven, than why she's holding her position till date ? After stating such statements which assassins character of one of the most respected and important figure of not only india but for some other countries too in the world like South Africa, that lady should be have presented before the court. Or atleast should have terminated from her position. And I agree that Gadhi may not be the father of the nation. And infact there were many great personalities in the Indian history to be at the position of father of the nation, some of which are greater than Gandhi be it like Aryabhatta who gave the world most important gift which is zero the fun part is in many instances zero is considered, which has no value but yet the most valuable number. And Shushruta a great physician. And there are many more. Well i know Bharat / Bharata and the name of India which is derived from Sanskrit language and also if I'm not wrong there was a prince name Bharata in india. Also india got many names like hindustan , jambudwipa and there were also few japanese and Hebrew terms which is dicy. And at last India name given by Brits.

@@arpitpatra the fact that 1.4 billion people can already function in a country with 40 languages means that wouldn't have been a problem. As for other things, we'll never know that. China's 1.6 billion people have built a working economy with proper education, healthcare, infrastructure, etc. There may have been a way, we'll just never know
