K J is always K J, the adorable singer of all times. It was indeed the vocal concerts of Chembai which really drew me to the world of Carnatic world back in 1969. I had indeed witnessed the KJ-Chembai concert of 1974 Sept at the East Nada, Guruvayur. It was a wonderful experience. Within a month after that, Chembai passed away on October 16 after finishing his last concert at Ottapalam. I was also present among the jam-packed audience. A Great soul indeed. We can actually see the full blossom of Guru-Shisya's relationship between Chembai and K J.

Sri K J Yesudas is single handedly responsible for widely disseminating this krithi. To me personally, Sri Yesudas, probably through this song, drew me into carnAtic music, and for that I do not know how I can be sufficiently grateful to him. There is an essential ease of access in his music, and I do not know what it is, his majestic and mellow voice, or something bigger. This rendition, in my humble view, is just as moving, just as soothing, and just as magnificent as it was the first time I heard him singing this song.

its time to honour Dr m balamuralikrishna and dr k j yesudas sir with bharat ratna, the highest civilian awards...if lataji is honoured with it, then they also deserve it...balamuralikrishna sir is a pioneer and maestro in carnatic music and yesudas sir is a legend in both classical and film music.....its our duty to force the gov to honour them with the highest civilian award...

Yes. BMK definitely deserves a Bharat Ratnam . Sachin Tendulkar was given it on account of his contribution to Cricket . But for those who can't enjoy cricket ,that honour confirmed upon Sachin might look awkward. BMK has contributed to Music far more than Sachin to Cricket. I know both the areas and love both the fields equally. But some times Govts turn blind refusing to see the artist's contributions. They also turn deaf to our requests. That is why we see sad sad and sad inactions from the government side. Dasettan is our private pride . He revolutionised the mallu film music world with his soft but sweet voice and his knowledge in the mighty classical music. He popularised both the art forms. Let us make representations to the authorities till they do the rightful things. Thank you for echoing my mind.

'Paavana Guru Pavanapura' by Lalitha Dasar in Hamsanandhi a symmetric scale that does not contain Panchamam n thus a shadava-shadava ragam. It is a janya ragam of 53 rd Melakartha Gamanashrama. This was popularised in cutchery circuits by the great maestro Chembai Vaidyanatha Bagawathar, thereafter by Dasettan/KJ Yesudas. in his solo cutcheries. Laitha dasar's compositions ( real name - T.G.Krishna Iyer of Tripunithura, Ernakulam in whose house, at Palace Road near Santhome, in a locality called 'Lalita Nagar' , Chembai swamy had stayed ) were popularised only by Chembai. In fact TGK did compose some 155 kritis in Telugu, Tamil and Sanskrit under the mudra 'Lalita dasar' and requested Chembai to set them to music and popularise them. Chembai accepted the invitation and set the kritis to classical music, and got them published under the name Lalita Dasar Keertanaigal. He made it a practice to sing these kritis in most of his concerts. He also released a record containing selected kritis from Lalita Dasar's kritis like Evariki Telusunamma (Dhanyasi), Ennil Kaninda (Shankarabharanam), Pavana Guru (Hamsanandi), Varijadala Lochani (Arabhi) etc . I still remember Dasettan's first cutcheries,,,, in Asthika samajam n another one or two Sabhas in Chennai. Hiis first recital telecast in Chennai DD became a popular one almost like a film song; prompted common people who were not habituated to listen carnatic music to consider listening Carnatic vocal recitals. The credit goes to the composer and also to the class devoted singing as well. .Pranams to Chemabi and lalitha Dasar.. Here Dasettan's rendition in his honeyed tone is class indeed. Best wishes

Ragam Hamsanandi :- A raga that instantly sets off a meditative and intense mood when handled is Hamsanandi. This raga is easy to identify even for an untrained listener since it's notes are so peculiarly aligned and its prayogas specially crafted. A fairly new raga, it is best sung in a breezy style, highlighting its frills, while paying due attention to the feeling conveyed by its plain notes. Hamsanandi takes on sadja, suddha rishabha, antara gandhara, prati madhyama, chatusruti dhaivata, and kakali nishada. The pancama is eschewed and this chasm in the centre of the raga gives rise to the emotion of yearning and fervent appeal. A symmetric one in ascent and descent, Hamsanandi is a shadava raga (having six notes). Swati Tirunal's “Pahi Jagajanani” is a well-known kriti in this raga. “Needu Mahima Pogada” of Muthiah Bhagavatar, “Srinivasa” of Papanasam Sivan, and “Pavanaguru” of Lalitadasar are other interesting compositions in Hamsanandi popular on the concert platform. Sunadavinodhini is an allied raga of Hamsanandi, the difference being that the rishabha is absent in Sunadavinodini, all other notes remaining the same. “Devadi Deva” of Mysore Vasudevachar is popular in Sunadavinodini.
