Gaming on Gigabit: Eliminate Bufferbloat From Your Bandwidth

Ойындар

After settling on a new router I was able to tackle the bufferbloat that kept showing up in testing. Here's how I fixed the problem.

I have been through this exact same situation i have perfectly low ping but when my gf watches netflix suddenly i keep getting packet loss. Constant 1-2% spikes every time she buffers the next part of her series (250 down/20 up) Bought the xr500 and it didn't do anything to my shock. Only 1 setting did and that was to keep it on "always" for whatever reaason the duma game list prioritising thing does absolutely nothing even though it does count the packets in and out. Also the distrubution setting does not work properly either. I tested my phone which i limited to 20 down since that is more than enough for netflix. However it seems to only make devices go as low as 50mb. The always on feature however actually works as intended reducing the packet loss completely. I found this video because my next step is 1gig fiber and i was hoping upgrading would fix it forever :/. It posses me off so much cause some fps games it directly affects my mouse aim because the packet loss stutters the mouse shen i am swiping/tracking which fks me over hard. Anyway essay over thx for the vid!

Mine was F rating. I just moved my modem very close to the main socket using a 5 cm RJ11 cable from socket to modem. Then I proceeded to use a cat 8 cable (1 metre long) to my XR 700 router then from the router to my network card I used a 1 metre sfp+ fibre optic cable. Tweaked my os (debloated etc). Best tweakers are panjno and fr33thy. I went from a F to A on waveform! And with wifi for some reason I get A+ !!!!!! I have noticed an incredible difference in hit registry and gaming experience. My rank in csgo is Global elite and I am Immortal in Valorant and the differences in connection is night and day! P.s I set my bufferbloat to 90% for both upload and download on xr700.

I have my main router downstairs. The network adapter on my motherboard is decent but it’s nothing fancy & it’s not really consistent. I was getting 30mbps down 10-12 mbps up & my ping was around 25-30ms. I installed a WiFi extender & I went from 30mbps to 140mbps down 25 up & by adding a goggle dns on my adapter… I went down to 8ms ping lol. You have to connect a Ethernet cable from your pc to the extender. I recommend one of the netgear extenders.

Do we need to open ports for port forwarding? I play valorant and it works fine (other than the packet loss and ping spikes due to bufferbloat). Do I need to look into opening ports or port forwarding?

In my router's OS, the section is called 'Port Forwarding' Once you add these ports to your router, the ports will be opened for your game. Yes I recommend adding them.

These following ports should be opened to ensure the best connection to the Quake Champions servers: UDP 48800 to 48900. TCP 11700 to 11725. As far as actually opening them, you just need to log in to your router and go to the port forwarding section to add them: 192.168.1.1 is the ip address for most routers, you just need to set up your log in credentials

But I can’t get my bandwidth to lower on wave form. I’m trying to lower my upload active ms, like your video results. How did you get yours to be +5

I had an old router Linksys, I bought it maybe back in 2010. I've been playing a lot of Counter Strike and consider myself a decent player. I ran my setup Modem -> Router -> LAN to my PC and everything was good. But one day everything has changed! I noticed I am not good at he game anymore, I felt like all the other players are like 1 second faster then me and when I shoot them right into their body on my screen it felt the my shots do not hit them at all since they were ending me instantly, even when I was shooting them in the back. It felt like 5 of my shots from AK 47 counted as 1 . I was getting killed behind walls when on my screen I was already there, sitting and hiding. I was killing players and after I land a head shot player was only dead after like half a second, sometimes I could have just spayed the whole clip turn around and only then player dies, lol. Well I was loosing my mind. I was telling every friend something is up. I started checking my PC components, testing, updating hardware, and software. I connected to my phones internet the same issue was there, I read a tons of information online about bad connection. I started checking for my outlets, since I read info online bad outlets or w/o ground could cause some interference. I started bugging my ISP about bad cable and switch boxes and telling them my cable is bad - they literally landed a new cable to my apartment building =). Nothing helped. I then took my PC to a friend's house.... and oh my.... the feeling of owning all those shitter who were telling me I am bad was back. I played like god. I came back home and the issue is there, again. I started googling again, switched my router to a better one, there was a feature QoS but it was automatic and you could set only uplink which would limit downlink to the same as uplink and it was 10mbps compared to 200mbps. Googling more and more found out about bufferbloating. While ping was good 10-20mls I was getting 50 - 60mls under load and my Bufferbloat was about B/C never A or A+. I have just recently bought a new modem itself, which improved bufferbloat(yes, old hardware can impact bufferbloat)and a new NETGEAR - Nighthawk AX5400 WiFi 6 Router. I set up my QoS hoping for he A/A+ grade but nothing was really changing, even when the bandwidth limiter was in place. Seems like as of today the last DUMA OS is broken and does not work as it supposed to. So I returned this router and got myself an Asus RT-AX86U Pro - OS is much more robust here as well app and web interface. The best part is that QoS is actually working on this router. I turned it on along with bandwidth limiter 10% lower of of my actual speed and now I have A+ grade. I played just one game so far but it feels much much much better.... I'll game some more and see if it actually makes a difference. At this point I think I have developed a ptsd thinking even if I do a perfect aim my bullet is not going to register anyway. So to this time i was just spraying around the player's model hoping for a kill. 😅

@@evmadic I am getting constant A+ grade with about 12ms unloaded, 0ms download and 0 ~ 5ms upload. My guess is that the upload is higher because my IPS speed is only at 10mbps uplink(maybe I need to test more with lower cap, but I currently I find that 9mbps works best for upload ). I use "traditional QoS" setting method along with an open NAT for CS GO. At least advertised features are working on RT-AX86U Pro compared to Nighthawk AX5400 WIFI 6, so I am gonna keep this boi, and it is also cheaper $370 VS $250
