Gaming on a Cheap $130 Chromebook

Ойындар

In this video, we take a look at ways we can game on a cheap $99-$130 Google Chromebook.
The Chromebook in this video “Lenovo Chromebook 3” is a low-end unit with a Dual-Core Intel Celeron n4020 Cpu and backed by 4GB of ram so its defiantly not a top of the line Chromebook but with the right apps you are able to game on a unit like this using native android games and apps like Project Cloud, Steam link, Moon Light, Vortex gaming and many many more plus Nvidia GeForce now works nativity on chrome books now as well as Google Stadia.

Cloud gaming and game streaming is indeed a great way of playing your favorite AAA titles on low-end devices. I mostly use Parsec myself, it works great for game streaming from your PC or even as a remote desktop client for work (in fact, I mostly use it for the later purpose). They've recently released a client for Android which should work on your Chromebook. Apart from short test of GeForce NOW, I never bothered with cloud gaming as I have a high-end PC which I can stream from securely using a home VPN (yes, VPNs are not just for hiding your IP !) with relatively low latency even over the Internet. Sony has cloud gaming in form of PlayStation Now but not on Android yet.

The trick here is to use an Intel CPU Chromebook since they have more solid single core performance and can also Crossover/Wine older Windows titles. Android apps will still run on intel Chromebooks since Google did some emulation magic. There is a Ryzen 5 Chromebook around somewhere that's incredibly powerful. And there's also an i3 and an i5 as well.

I would like to know more about ps now in its current state and peoples real experiences. The only thing I’m not a fan of is they use ps3 ports whenever they can, and those seem to be the most sluggish when compared to ps4 or ps2 (damn cell processor). That’s one thing I’ll give xcloud, if there’s a current gen version of a streamable game, that’s the one you will get. Also, I’m not a fan of how they handle the rotating window of games with my small experience on ps now. When a game is in xcloud, especially a Microsoft one, you can bet it will stick around for a while. Even third party games microsoft has a good relationship with, like outer worlds and the Witcher 3, really make themselves at home on the service. When I tried ps now for the first time after a few “best of” recommendations, half of the games I wanted to play had left the service and I had no idea when they would return. And they were Sony exclusives and first party games. All of this being said, I think I’m gonna stream games and play on switch until modern gaming gets more competitive in price and exclusives. So I’m def open to ps now.

Yo ETA, how is the input lag? I have internet that says it’s 300 mbps but really hovers between 100-200 mbps with low latency on average, and instead of jumping into a new Xbox or ps, I was gonna let my chromebook through stadia and xcloud do some work until stock and prices go down (still have a switch) I don’t mind a little latency, but is this something I could mess around in social slayer in halo and still be decent? Again doesn’t have to be perfect, but just wanted an idea of your experience. I haven’t signed up for gamespass/streaming yet, but games like destiny and tomb raider on stadia seem pretty similar to their console ports, but also aren’t exactly dependent on competition or fast reflexes. Not afraid to break out the ol Ethernet cable if necessary as well. Let me know if ya see this :)

I have tried may recommended troubleshooting methods to no success. I suspect these laptops have poor wifi cards built in... At the beginning of this video you mention "AC-4 Wifi". I can't tell if my Lenovo has that. With the troubles I have been having, I don't feel confident it does. I have checked the specifications all around, but all I see is general info that its supports wifi and thats' it...Its so strange because I have no issues with Geforce Now.

@@BETTERoffRED425 i see, does it have steam on it? linux version. if it has, maybe you can do it. but you would also have to add the emulators as a game in steam (from the library -> add a non-steam game) so maybe the emulator would also need to be on the linux side of the chromebox. so linux steam on it. steam link on the chromecast, and who knows... maybe it would work. a lot of question marks though... if i had the devices i would definitely try to make it work though :D

Do you still have this chromebook? I think it would be a really cool video to show how to install Linux and run steam games through proton or litrus to play older pc games. I recently did this on my N4020 chromebook and I can play things like KOTOR and TES Oblivion just fine. And that’s with Linux running off my SD card so I have more space for games compared to limited 32GB eMMC internal.
