@@TahelEdit low profile GPU is basically half the height of normal sized GPU. It's the only form factor you can fit into these SFF (small form factor) desktops. These PCs are usually only 10cm thick (that's about 4 inches for the US people), so you are limited TFX power supplies, low profile GPUs, low profile CPU coolers.

So I run a low profile 6400 in a Dell SFF with an i7-8700 and 32GB RAM and it isn't awful, but not great either. The main problem with the 6400 is the 64 bit memory bus and PCIe Gen4. You leave a decent chunk of performance on the table by running on a Gen3 system (like the HP in this video or my Dell).

That really isn't too bad at all, I swear that my workplace has a load of this as lectern PCs. What surprised me most is the pre-installed Samsung SSD (That part number correlates to a Samsung drive), dual channel memory (HP love using single channel memory in their pre-builts), and, most importantly, the M.2 SSD and Wi-Fi slots. I would definitely add Wi-Fi and an NVME boot drive, as well as more RAM - IMO, you can never have too much of RAM! :)

The i7's from 6th-7th gen do have hyperthreading which helps with modern games, and 8th gen i5 has 6 cores, so worth looking for those if possible but they always list for much more than the i5 6500 or 7500 models which seem to be the most common. The 4 threads can be limiting factor though especially with more modern titles.

You may be able to fit on of Nvidia's workstation series GPU's in this case. There are low power models like the P1000 which are often found in ThinkStation Tiny machines that offer performance equivalent or superiour to a 1050Ti. after some research on the specs, it seelms like it can fit a low-profile PCIe 3 x16 card with a max TDP of 35W. The P1000 draws 47 watts, which might work.. but not sure. Its lower-spec version, the P400 draws only 30 watts and fits this case. So that's basically as far as you can get unless you upgrade the PSU. A PCIe slot can provide up to 75 watts of power - enough for an A2000, which is an entreprise series Ampere card with RT cores. Overall, decent upgradeability, if only its pcie slot was placed a little higher to give space for 2u cards...

My favorite phenomena in the PC world is how businesses and organizations will discard perfectly viable IT gear when they refresh their equipment. If you are at the right place at the right time, you can get all kinds of previous gen hardware absolutely free. Just last weekend I picked up an HP Z440 workstation for free. With an X99 motherboard and 700W PSU, it's a perfect platform to build a gaming rig on. All I needed was a $10 dual 6 pin to 8-pin adapter to run more modern graphics cards, and I replaced the non-turbo non-hyperthread 2.8ghz quad xeon with a 6-core turbo hyperthreaded 3.4ghz xeon which can be had for $13.50 on ebay. For $25 I have a proper gaming rig (already had a 1070 Ti and PCIe SSD to throw in it from an older build). Main thing is you have to be patient because they discard things on THEIR schedule and you also have to be savvy enough to know when and where to be when they start discarding gear in order to scoop stuff up. Often all you have to do is ask (Closed mouths don't get fed). I have acquired numerous servers and pro grade workstations like this over the years.

6:58 if I had that refurbed HP ProDesk 400 G5 SFF (which has support for Windows 11 than the 600 G3), I could bring the PC, the keyboard, the mouse, and my pocket router, the PSU, an inverter with a slim motorbike battery (packed on a bag) to school unless it's time for learning, studying, and doing exams, especially my not-so-nice English teacher.

The HP Prodesk 600 G3 shows two ports at the rear so surly it should be able to take a low profile gtx 1050Ti or 1650?

Used Quadro P1000, similar to 1050ti, would be a bargin. the newer T1000 has more umpf but that gets rather costly.

Would love to see this machine upgraded with an i7 7700 and a Powercolor RX 6400 Low Profile. Maybe throw in 32GB of RAM and a 1TB NVME for good measure because why not? No reason, I just like watching people do overkill upgrades on these kinds of machines.

If anything, that box would make for a better server. I know many people who usually buy even smaller mini PC's (still have a decent CPU, but no PCIe slots for a graphics card), to use as a dedicated game server.

You could probably fit a K620 quadro 2gb graphics card in that slot. It's about the same size and requires no external power to run.

We have similar machines without the USB-C port in our big computer lab in our high school. But they also might be a little bit newer(I think we got them in 2016 after we had lots of Lenovo ThinkPads) but most of them are in really bad shape😂 there‘s not a single unit with the Intel sticker still on ist and 80% of the optical drives don‘t work anymore and 7 of 30 units don‘t work at all😬😂

It’s kinda insane for my school to have computers with intel i7 11700k and 16Gb of ram and 1440p monitors, that’s basically my computer but with no graphics card. I didn’t even know my school just switched out the old computers with the new ones.

@@309electronics5 What I can say is, I don't know how they have so much money to spend on computers, even though the stuff still works and not obsolete. I think the old computers that used to be there had i7 8700K and 16GB of ram. Those computers were mostly in classroom for developing electronics. The 2 things I hate about it is they don't have any kind of ssd or any kind of graphics besides the intel graphics. I guess it's fine for basic web surfing and office apps, but for anything else, it's basically useless.
