Bro I just bought 2 of this controller days before you posted this. I gave my little brother my old elite controller because the bumper was inconsistent. My replacement for that was originally a 8 bitdo ultimate. That things back port broke in 3 months and when it got low battery the stick sense got extremely bad so i had to replace it too. I just got them in and both me and my brother love them so far. Hope they stand up to long term wear but even if they only last like 8 month it will be so worth the 40 I paid for each.

My elite v1 lasted for years, until I tore it down to clean the stick to fix drift. The grips then bubbled and it sucked to hold. I love the cold plastic feel of a standard series X controller too.

Biggest problem with destiny 2 and controller is that very settings have never been updated. Games like CoD can customize so much. Like ehy cant they make it that you auto sprint for example. And of course you mentioned the deadzones. Unfortunately D2 is coming to an end and i really hope for this to be considered if they ever make another one.

I picked up the DualSense Edge this past weekend and it's a really good controller imho, the customization options are really great and being able to switch between profiles with a click of a button is awesome, and while it only has the two programmable back buttons I find that is all I really need, on top of being able to customize the trigger sensitivity so it's basically either 1 or 0 is great and having built-in trigger stops too, the sticks feel great and are easily replaceable should drift occur plus deadzone can be adjusted but unfortunately not in the way you want it to be, I hope you do get a chance to look at it because I think it's one of the best controllers on the market atm

Elite series two will need replacing every 6 months or so, but you can adjust the spring tension of the sticks (more tension means that you can up sensitivity and still have the precision input), and the software allows you adjust dead zones, as well as four metal paddles and trigger stops. I hate that I have to have two so one can be replaced while I use the other one, but I've found no better.

2 Controllers I'd recommend for Destiny 2. One for PVP and the other for PVE. Unfortunately, neither will fix the deadzone issue you mentioned at the beginning. I've been on the hunt for several years myself. First one, The Victrix Gambit. This comes the closest to fixing the issue you mention above. This controller I mainly use for PVP. It has a 500hz inherently, so your controller to console/PC input delay is 2ms (very competitive). (context, most stock and elite controllers for xbox are 200hz. That's 5ms.) This one comes with a 4 button layout or a 2 button layout. For $99 last I checked. Now, the controller I'm addicted to using. Razer Wolverine Ultimate (the older version, not the V2 Chroma). This controller has a 200hz output, however, you get 6 additional buttons. How? 2 extra bumpers at the top, and 4 extra bumpers on the back. The layout is a little weird, and it takes some getting used to, but the value is fantastic. It usually goes for 90 bucks and is always on sale on Amazon. Give these ones a try, Camm. I promise, after using the 6 extra buttons, it'll be hard to wanna go back. I would say to get the new Scuff, but I tried that. The 2 extra buttons on the sides of your bumpers are great, but they're very awkwardly placed and hardly worth the value of the controller IMO. Which is why I am sticking to the Razer Wolverine Ultimate for PVE. Edit: Just a few corrections. Wanted to add too. I've come to the conclusions with my findings when it comes to fixing the 20% deadzone issue... until Bungie gives us the ability to adjust our deadzones accordingly, looks like we're stuck until then. It baffles me the amount of customization they give us for Controller Scheme, but they don't give us the ability to adjust INGAME deadzones... insane. Sorry for the long comment. lol

I would love to use the Wolverine but the back paddle placements drive me insane. They are so awkward to use I can’t believe they actually designed them that way. If they ever change the paddle placement I will 100% switch back to that one. I also currently use the Gambit, and can confirm that it’s the best mix of usable button layout and performance that I’ve found. Only issue though is that they are as unreliable as heck. Every one I’ve purchased has broken within 6 months, and one broke within two months. I am on my 4th one now. Also, their customer service is horrendous. I am still waiting on a replacement from two controllers ago.

I had to train my muscle memory to be okay with having to move my fingers outside of my grip, and and train my grip-style be a little looser to get it to work. Hm,, damn. It sounds like they've been giving a bunch of crappy Gambits. Then again, I'm a controller enthusiest. I have about 20 or so controllers, that of which I switch to use for certain games here and there. Probably why my Gambit has lasted as long as it has.

Look inside the box you get a month of Gamepass with it- so all things considered you could theoretically knock another $10usd off the cost. That slider around 1:31 you slide that left dot left or right, that's the deadzone, you receive a warning for value under 10 for potential error/drift. Also the hair trigger can be activated on the fly- by pressing the M button and the R-Trigger together- it will vibrate letting you know its either on/off. You can mute or adjust audio levels and balance of game/chat on the fly w function button and d-pad. Also the D-Pad is fantastic for retro games, played a good bit of old Castlevania and Metroidvania type games on this. Buttons feel good, layout feels good- works w PC/Xbox I swap around all the time and for the price I`ll take this over the several Elites that I kept rotating out on the warranty treadmill like you did. I set my R back button to X- to revive in elimination game types, also its my double-x to finisher- and L-Back is my L3 (stick click) way easier to start sprints and immediate sprint slides for howl of the storm etc that way. I have had the controller for a few months now and probably game more than 99% of people with a 0.1% time spent in Destiny as well insert sad psyduck facepalm here. This is because I`m sick, old and retired Army. Great controller , great price- worth trying out. Only drawbacks are 2 less back buttons (I don't miss them) oh its Wired (some people hate that, but the cable is really long and comes w velcro cable ties) - and the some of the other Gamesir controller have clicky microswitch face buttons (ABXY, and D-Pad). Happy gaming!

Next controller you should try is the 2021 Razer Wolverine Ultimate. I just got my second one a few weeks ago it was that good. You can change the deadzones on steam. I personally think the hall effect sticks are not ready for market. I have 3 different hall effect controllers and I am no where near as accurate as my Razer controller. When I play momentum control I need to maximize headshots for the perfect TTK to get Seventh Columns. By having a high sens (15) and a low ads modifier (0.5 0.6) and a turn radius of 0.7 or 0.8, I can almost mimic a mouse flick. I often tap the left trigger to reengage the aim assist and reticle friction system and to cover a large turning point in a super quick amount of time, like a mouse, while still being pretty accurate. Highly recommend the wolverine ultimate and the Asura 2 Pro+ is my favorite hall stick controller, with the gamesir close behind. My wolverine ultimate lasted 2+ years until the RB button would sometimes not work. Zero stick drift. Amazing controller. For deadzones I feel like I found a way to change them by going into steam game properties, controller, controller configurator, show advanced deadzone options, and have anti deadzone as low or high as what feels comfortable. I have mine at 845.

I have the 8bitdo Ultimate (bluetooth version with the HE sticks... they have some janky SKU feature drift), and it's pretty hard to quantify the difference in feel from being used to the tensioned sticks on the Xbox Elite S2. Hopefully the Dualsense Edge gets more eyes on properly replaceable designs at least, and not the clusterfk which is trying to open the Elite S2, and then having to desolder a bunch of cables and more than likely break the shoulder button tensioning mechanism just to access the solder points for the stick modules or shoulder button switches. Different category of controller, but getting into the Switch Pro Controller literally just requires you to Phillips screw both of the hand grip "caps" off, a few more screws, and you are good to go look at the mobos. (The Joystick replacement itself is still soldered junk though)

I would recommend the Razer Wolverine Tournament Edition (there is both an xbox and playstation version). I've used the controller for 3 years now and the only problem I have with it is that one of the back buttons is somewhat inconsistent. This was from probably pressing the button too hard but otherwise the controller is great. It has 4 extra remappable buttons (2 on the back and 2 on the top that are kind of like mouse buttons with how they feel), software for adjusting the sticks, remapping buttons, and changing up the RGB. Only problem is getting one now because it is discontinued and the Wolverine V2 is not as good as the Wolverine Tournament Edition. Best alternative from Razer now is the Razer Wolverine Chroma V2 (which is different from the non-chroma) with 6 remappable buttons.

The Flydigi VADER3 pro might also be a good fit. Back buttons don't look as well placed to me but it comes with some extra face buttons. The 8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth is similar to the GameSir - cheap but good. PDP's Vitrix Pro BFG is the only good option for the symmetrical joystick layout. It can also support the xbox layout, and it's a solid controller all round. But it's costs to much more then the Guilikit or Flydigi controllers above to be worth it unless you're specifically after a symmetrical thumbstick layout.

I've always used the default controller that comes with my consoles, and even used the default dualsense for my PS5, until recently when I felt like I corrected my other gameplay weak points enough to warrant having a controller with back paddles for crouch shooting in fps. It's funny though, because at this point, the amount of jank I had with my controller setup makes me play better without paddles (L1 hold sprint, R1 hold crouch, L3 melee, R3 jump, X grenade, O toggle crouch, Dpad up super, Dpad down heavy weapon). I managed to do everything I needed without paddles, so now two extra back buttons is overload for my brain when in high adrenaline situations, and I sometimes end up miss-pressing old configurations because of it. I have been slowly weening myself off of my standard dualsense controller and into my Dualsense Edge, which is criminally overpriced at $200USD. So far I only have the right back button as hold crouch, and my crouch shot variance is significantly better now. I constantly win duels I used to normally lose or trade, and I might put left back button to grenade, because I currently have to remove my thumb from the right stick to throw a grenade, so my lineups take a bit longer than it should depending on how accurate my grenade placement has to be. Sorry for typing this essay😅

I personally found that my cousins ps5 edge controller or whatever felt the best having great vibration adaptive triggers being pretty cool for fps games tho limited on pc without third party software the customizable deadzones for the onboard profiles as well as stick input curves has and got one even tho I don't have a ps5 and just set up the profile I wanted on his Playstation and use them on pc I'm sure that it would have been a smarter thing to get it through software but I told myself it's for the longevity being that you can replace the stick modules if the deadzones still can't save the drift just shell out 20 or whatever it is instead of an entire other controller but the fact that two stick replacements is the price of this controller makes me think different since it's hall effect too but fr messing with stick curve helped a lot of the issues I had with aiming

I've been using the pc scuf envision, so i guess its not for console category but its been great and id recommend it, it has 4 paddles and side buttons so a total of 6 remappable buttons with 5 macro buttons in the front. on destiny specifically you can map different melee buttons to one of the new side buttons, basically have basic melee and charged melee completely separate kinda huge on controller fights close range, other then that the macros i havent found a use for maybe someone else could.

Looking forward to more controller reviews and updates one as it gets broken in, or broken. Xbox user and I've used the vanilla controllers so long, but have been wanting to get more buttons, but very hesitant about elites bc of the price vs how often I hear about them breaking. I tried one or two 3rd party options years ago, but they were garbage out of the box so they got returned quickly (one of them might have been a razr iirc). Does the programming and dead spot reduction etc that you do work for using on console too? And how does this all work with in-game controller settings?

While I've not used that, and it could be a really good controller, I've used the turtle beach recon controller and can say the thing is straight dogshit. Traded it in on warranty twice and every time it starts with the same issues: it randomly disconnects(despite being wired) and often when it does so my back buttons unmap themselves, also it can sometimes play a loud screeching sound that does not stop until unplugged. Sometimes that's only on my end, sometimes people in party can hear it. Stick drift and bumper issues don't take too long to set in either. Really lost my faith in turtle beach products after using this.

Be interested to see your thoughts on the razer chroma v2. It's a great controller but the M3 & 4 back buttons have a habit of breaking so become loose and can lead to miss-clicks of all types. I hope they sort this issue out as it's my favourite controller, over both elites

If you're doing a series on different controllers, I would STRONGLY recommend skipping the victrix bfg. I got it to play competitive fighting games, and within 6 months I've had my left trigger stop working, my dpad falling off with every touch, and my b/circle button completely snapping and falling out. The build quality is not worth the money.

2 issues I have with this controller (current one I’m using atm) : 1. Not enough tension in the sticks (particularly the right stick) 2. Not enough separation between the bumpers and the triggers. I’m a “Bumper Jumper”, and I find myself fat-fingering more often than I would like when jumping/skating. It kills my momentum when trying to disengage a fight and gets me killed.

4:53 There might be some third party software to allow gyro control on certain controllers that support it (idk if it’d get you banned, it’s a risk I’d take on a burner account). But I feel like there’s a load of untapped potential in it, acquiring the skill necessary to be able to use gyro and stick aim simultaneously would be a lot of work and take so much time, but if executed properly it would result in possibly the best performance in terms of aim that neither a controller or mouse could provide alone. I think this is worth diving into if you’re willing to take the time and effort to experiment with it.

Would be perfect if it had 2 more back buttons. Still, it's probably the best controller I've ever used. The hall effect sticks feel amazing and have drastically improved my aim. The fact that this controller is $40 while Microsoft pushes out garbage for $150 is hilarious.

Are the buttons mechanical? Because of the eight or ten different controllers that i've owned including an elite. The wolverine ultimate has been the best feeling to me. Minus the fact that their back buttons are short to say the least. However they do have two smaller buttons offset more centered between the trigger and bumpers.

  • @minigaminghere6634

Try considering the turtle beach, scuf or the razor wolverine version 1 controllers . The second version or the razor wolverine is not as good as the first one. All of these have triggers or paddles in the back 4 of them. Personally i have big hands so the scuff control hurts my left hand, one knuckle of my middle finger is right on the trigger lip and because i grip my controller hard it does hurt after like 3 hours of playing. The wolverine is good but it has an inherent defect that because the buttons are like mouse clicks and not a button like a normal controller using it may cause it to stop working after a while. I too have an elite controller but that one everything fucked up lmao. I love the feel but it breaks to easy for a very expensive controller. Also maybe look into some power A controllers. I don’t have one but my friends do have and they recommend it 100%. I don’t think they have 4 paddles/triggers in the back but it won’t break the bank. Its only 90$ range. Also i don’t play claw so this might change a lot of things for you.

I tried this controller out. Big fan of the Hall Effect sticks, but i was missing my two other paddles. Two controllers I'm on the lookout for this year are the Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra Pro and the Victrix Pro BFG for Xbox/windows. The stealth ultra will have hall effect sensors and microswitches. The Victrix will be releasing a separate module for hall effect sensors you can switch out. My biggest point of failure has always been the bumpers on my elite so I'm looking for something that'll last. I hope the elite v3 goes in this direction but I guess we'll see.
