From the days of Mordheim and Gorka Morka it has always been the same. They make great ancillary skirmish games, and then slowly but surely let them fade into obscurity through lack of support.

$100 would've been too much. You can't even play a real game of Warcry with this. Insane.

When I found out the board was switched out for shiny poster material, I was bummed. Now hearing that it's gonna be $30ish more than I projected. Yeah, screw this.

That looks like parts of the first war cry graveyard set of terrain. Man, I'll be passing on this year's war cry and I'm seriously considering going over to 3d printing my models from now on.

lolololol They lost me in underworlds when the warbands went from 25€ each to 35€ wich is ridiculous for 3 to 7 models. They had the moast amazing models in that game i want the whole collection but like this its very hard. And 110€ it's ridiculous for this starter set. They are doing everything to lose to 3D printers. And i hope they fail horribly.

I wanted this set , but £65 ?? or £52 discounted , just NO. GW must think its customers are stupid , they should look inside their own company for stupid.

ya what a shame. warcry is so great, but they always seem to make the worst choices for the players/game. there was so much potential, with either pricing, or value for a new warcry set. at this point, they need to just sell a token sheet, and let people sort the rest themselves.

Every time I think of getting back into 40K, AOS, etc., I just look at their prices again real quick and the desire goes away. Gotta sell everything off and kill the urge once and for all.

Just play AoS 2.0 with old stuff from Ebay or local second hand boards!

I just want the terrain since already have the “warbands”. Should’ve at least been all new models and a few more models on both sides. $110 is ridiculous for this as is. GW should also sell every set terrain separately.

It just feels like they are pricing things so that the FLGS' that offer 20% are actually selling it at the base price... for $99 like you mentioned, the old Kill team starter set... 20% off $120 for the Warcry would put it at the same price basically.

I regularly wonder what went wrong at the GW office but the price of this and the poor treatment of WarCry in general? Let us hope that all the negative reactions to the price caused a panic meeting at the sales department and an emergency change of the price. The 2.0 rule changes and fixes were a step in the right direction but I honestly expected more. Many people I talked to was not impressed by the Ghur terrain and reaction on the different teams was, uneven. People were hyped for this starter before we knew the prices... it isn't strange. GW only need to look into the past to figure out how to do a successful box and get new people into Warcry. Make a set of terrain inspired by Mordheim, Cursed City and Cities of Sigmar (the new range). Then make one undead team with a mix of vampires and boneheads and maybe something creative fighting a vampire hunter and his retinue. They could have even soft launched, teased Cities of Sigmar with warcry by using some of the new sculpts to wet peoples appetite. A good first team expansion would have been some completely new Skaven skulpts. That would fit perfectly such a set. Maybe followed by Cities of Sigmar city guard or something that shows the fighters among the "normal people".

What can you add to the vampires to fill out these 4 model warband

If they also included the Underworlds cards and an Underworlds board and rules it would be a good deal.

check out the heart of ghur set. its still around, and i see it regularly offered with a big discount! it has the rule book, the tokens, cards, 2 warbands, terrain. its a really nice set. if i was starting from scratch, i would start with that set. we do know that a new season is starting soon. so if you can hold off, perhaps something better will show up in the next couple months.

The really frustrating thing about something like this is that Games Workshop's profit margin is so large that they can make boxes like this a good deal and not lose money on them. They don't need to be a loss leader. Printing books and card tokens is a bit more pricey than plastic models, but my guess is that this could retail for less than $50 and GW wouldn't lose money on it.

That is not true. In their results just released GW reported £25m of licensing revenue (mostly computer games) and an overall profit of £170m. Whoever told you otherwise was sorely mistaken.

I can't imagine their TT/boardgames are selling better now as I hear nothing about GW other than people saying their not buying anymore because of the prices. Tbh the prices were ridiculous in the late 80's but a mini that cost £2-£3 then costs about £20 now and games that cost £30 then are now over £100.

Does the warcry starter have a cardboard board? That might explain why GW thinks it's worth more than the KT starter. They seem to think their cardboard battlefields are worth their weight in gold 😂

Yeah we had a previous conversation on this before the price drop where I defended this thinking it would be like $80 or so … I was wrong - you were right- this is a crap starter at that price

Bladeborn was a much better deal. Still 2 Underworlds warbands, but with cards for other 4. A cardboard mat (double sided too). The CHUNKY colored dice from Red Harvest, tokens. The rules for its own system AND Warcry. No terrain but it is less than half the price of this… You might argue that it was not really Warcry but a hybrid between Warcry and Underworlds, but for all this new “Starter Set” has, I’d argue the new one is not really Warcry either, just a half-assed, overpriced recycled cash grab.

I got the warcry box for 50$ on ebay. Starting to really appreciate that price. You would get better value just buying one of the Age of Sigmar start boxes since all those models have free rules.

wow thats a really good deal! i ended up getting it for a good price, and its a nice set. just finished painting the terrain. working on the warbands now! i agree, the starter sets for sigmar are great for getting into warcry, with the free rules!

Everyone I know stopped playing GW games in the early 90's due to GW's ridiculous prices.

Yeah huge miss for me, was going to totally pick this up for my 7 year old, but two underweight warbands and minimal terrain for $110? Stupid.

All downhill is exactly right. Really ticked about the repetitive terrain in the Ghur series and now this. I was going to get several sets to draw family in to this series and now I will buy none.

So, you're telling me I should head over to my Pile-O-Shame, grab out my half finished box of Warcry: Catacombs and get work?

completely mindboggling. I figured they'd price it similar to the Underworlds starter set (which btw comes with two fully playable warbands for Underworld so you can immediately go play with them with anyone at your gaming store), since it's just an entry point. Yes, this does come with a minimal set of terrain, but Underworlds comes with two part actual mapboard and many times more cards, and a guided play book to learn from scratch. This doesn't even have a real map board to play on. But had it been priced at $80, it would've worked for anyone looking to dip their toe in, especially if they don't have, or don't yet know about their local scene to go try a full game. This is literally marketed to no one.

The thing that takes the cake here is they couldn't even budget in a cardboard mat at this price point. Give me a break!

What is the rule book like? Is it a full rulebook or just the basic rules?

Damn, I was tempted to get this for the mini’s (Don’t play warcry but they look like they’d be cool for D&D or smth) until I found out it was like £65 I don’t have the money to spare for 40K stuff let alone stuff for a game I don’t plan to actually play

I bought Crypt of Blood thinking the map was thick card stock. but it was just paper. pretty disappointed.

They stopped doing loss-leaders a long time ago. Sure the bundles save money, but they're nothing like the £40 Assault on Black Reach for 40K 5th edition or WFB Island of Blood.

it doesnt even have to be a loss leader. look at the kill team starter. its $125 in teams, plus a bunch more stuff & its $99. thats how they should have done this. they put less in this set, and made it more expensive... thats a fail. (the leviathan box was an amazing deal, so they still do have awesome launch boxes, just substantially more expensive)

Black Reach was a good time... it felt expensive back then, but even a student was able to buy stuff then. Today it’s incredible that anyone is even considering buying them

I got one for 65€ including p&p here in Germany. Would be 70$ in US. That's acceptable since I can sell the minis. I already got them. The Sigmarines I got 2x before. 😂 I like the Ghur terrain, but it's just too much of the same. GW told us there is a BIG reptilian spaceship in that jungle .. and nobody has found it . Warcry🔜⚰️

It's just cheaper here in the EU if you refer to ths exchange rate. It's 85 Euro for this Warcry Teaser Set , the same 85 Euro the 40k Starter Set is priced. The almost 2 full Combat Patrols 85 Euro set. I hope as much ppl as possible vote with their wallets and don't buy this Teaser Set.

Well, you can owe that to a certain extent to the Scalpers because: As soon as I hear something about "This box is great value" it is sold out within seconds. The Christmas box of the Imperial Fists or Wrath Of The Soulforge, for example, you can still buy ..... meanwhile with a - 15% Discount in my nearby third party Store. The better the Box, the more likely it will be scalped. And that in turn is GW's fault because they only produce 100 boxes (from my point of view) throwing them into the crowd and yelling "Brawl over it".

Lame....with the Necromunda book coming out I'm choosing that as my new skirmish game. If they ever make a cool Skaven warband I will fork out some cash...

Essentially they are giving you bladeborn type content for a price that is way overpriced for bladeborn content. I mean holy hell you can get warcry red harvest for like 125$- might as well go for the proper starter set at that point. It feels like this should have been bladeborn 2 but someone got greedy. And to be clear this is not me dunking on bladeborn- that is a great game but again they are giving you a BN intro type game that is way overpriced.

so the price is in line with GW products today if you compare to current prices for underworlds. However its out of step compare to typical starter sets for warcry the set though is underwhelming for the game. When warcry was originally released there was a terrain set i think for 150.00 for crypts ect for about the price of this box set. I admit though underworlds has seen an unjustified over 100% markup difference since its started.

I agree, the price is ridiculous and I'm probably the last person that would defend GW's prices. That said, I don't know where you're getting your $35 war band prices from, but that seems inaccurate. In my experience (your experience might differ) to get those specific war bands separately as of today it costs $40 for the Crimson Court from the GW online shop; they're not available on Amazon or on eBay for any cheaper. Xandire's Truthseekers aren't available on Amazon or unless you get them with the Underworlds Harrowdeep set and the cheapest I've seen is $58. Regarding the terrain, it looks great and I agree it's sparse, but $35 for terrain sounds like another incorrect assumption, when have you ever seen GW sell terrain separately for less than $60? Based on the above, we're already looking at $158. This set costs $110, so there's a little bit of savings there. And yes, you could skip this box, use the free rules online (though the narrative play campaign rules aren't as easy to find) and get 2 boxes of other war bands, but those still cost between $45-$60 depending on where you get them, that's still adds up to at least $90 - $120, which is pretty close to $110 for this starter box. Not to mention you wouldn't have the cards you need to play these specific warbands even if you had the models from previous purchases, so you'd have to proxy that along with the terrain. This is all based on my shopping experience, but if you've found better deals that average $35 per war band and $35 for official GW terrain, PLEASE share the links on all your future videos, I'd love to pay less for GW products.

Interestingly in Europe it costs half as much, still not sure if it's worth it? Anyway as a boardgamer, it is so refreshing to see the US being screwed for a change.

Bro your tales are always cringe… like nobody paid over 100 for this box. If you did you’re a monkey. This warband while incomplete is one of the most desired elements of underworld. P.s - this box is 80 to 90 bucks. Amplifying these warband is super cheap and easy and personally I loved this box.

Frankly I wish GW would just stop making all these dinky ass peripheral games like Kill Team and Warcry. Hot take I guess, but I wish they would put all of their attention on their core products. I appreciate that through stuff like Kill Team we can get fresh new sculpts of niche subfections like Kriegers and Ork Kommandos but frankly we would be better served by them just offering those products to the main game without all of the game theory that goes into designing and balancing these products. It's too much for them to juggle it seems.

GW knows that the economy is tanking everywhere, so they expect that only their really hardcore fans will be spending money on their games. Raising prices won't deter that group, but it will offset the losses from casual gamers/fans who will worry more about rent, food, and gas. Also, mom and dad won't be approving those big miniature or gaming purchases like they used to.
